"Heya Girls!"
Alright, this week we're gonna play tourist in our own city! As every year on the Tourist Guide Day, the Viennese walking pros invite you to exciting and free discovery tours – only this time, for obvious reasons, online. So instead of wearing sturdy shoes on Sunday, you can leave your slippers on and – well supplied with cappuccino and biscuits – let them explain the world to you. The MAK is the centre of interest this time. The guides have shot 12 reports on some of the most beautiful objects in the collection: you can find out about the living room/bedroom of Caroline Neubacher, designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky. You will experience Gustav Klimt's designs for the mosaic frieze of the Palais Stoclet and be presented with Koloman Moser's studio cupboard. There will also be two longer lectures, one on “Vienna Becoming a Cosmopolitan City” and a particularly exciting one on “Women in Art from the Baroque to the Modern Age”. Now this is what you call city exploring for the lazy-footed ;-)

Wishing you a surprising week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Anna Mabo
Some witty rhymes, few chords and a guitar: that's all that Anna Mabo needs to make her songs sound (and feel) as if your girlfriend was just telling you an episode from her life. You get a chance to feel these vibes tonight, transmitted via video stream from the Sargfabrik. In her debut album, the 24-year-old Viennese lady sings about old dogs, broken radios, lonely grannies – and always about love: in playful jokes about the bothersome men who explain the world to women or in more quiet tones about the lovable men. Buoyant, gentle and critical.

Start-Up Village
Canvassed all your favourite shops since the lockdown easing? Time for something new: at the Start-Up Village in the Donauzentrum, candidates from the show “2 Minuten 2 Millionen” present their creative products that are not yet on offer anywhere else. From fashion to deco to cosmetics, many of them bet on sustainability: carpets from Bregenz and home accessories made of cork leather, colourful and fairly produced stainless steel jewellery from Vienna and vegan, lactose- and gluten-free bonbons as snacks. Until 27 March, when the village moves to Shopping City Süd!

Rebecca Horner dances Pablo Picasso
Well, these are not exactly relaxing times at the moment. For those who need a short break to take a deep breath and switch off, this week's treat is recommended. Rebecca Horner, ballerina at the Staatsoper, gives us a moment of peace with a dance lasting just under 5 minutes – she interprets Picasso's work “Woman with Green Hat” for the Albertina. To the sounds of Chopin, Horner (older folks will still remember her as child actress) floats through the empty halls – works like a pause button for stressed souls. The painting can currently be seen in real life at the exhibition “Monet to Picasso”.

Tasty Takeout at Villa Vida
It will be a while before the legendary “Queens Brunch” at Villa Vida can be celebrated again. Luckily, the super nice queer community cafe will shorten the wait with its good cuisine – yay! Every Friday and Saturday, the “Tasty Takeout” offers deliciously marinated chicken wings to pick up. This time on the menu: Jerk Chicken Wings and Sriracha Honey Chicken. Brazilian feijoada is also on the menu as a special. For those who don't like meat at all, there's deep-fried Buffalo cauliflower or vegan curry with rice. Finger lickin’ good ;-)

 Vinokilo
Vinokilo Pop-up Store
Finally! After a few Corona cancellations, Vinokilo's Pop Up Sale is making its first stop in Vienna this year. High-quality second-hand fashion and selected vintage pieces want to be saved here by sustainable fashionistas. The style ranges from the 1960s to the noughties, from high-end brands to rare streetwear pieces. Especially cardigans, flannels and winter jackets are up for grabs this time. Once you have chosen your favourite items, they are weighed and paid for by weight. Important: Make sure you book a free ticket for a time slot online.

Media Art: Civa Festival
Corona has added a new festival to Vienna and the World Wide Web: from today, the online media art festival “Civa” offers exhibitions, music performances and film nights with the title “Social Distancing – Virtual Bonding” – free of charge and at any time of the day or night! For nine days, you can experience concerts by Lou Asril, Keke or Mira Lu Kovacs, stream a utopian short film programme in which avatars talk about their lives – or click through five chapters of works on the power and limits of mass media at “Expanded Realities and Networked Voices”. Cool!

Fabrics in Space
In the brand-new show “Fabrics in Space” you can see what textile art can mean: fabric as a political medium, an ancient craft and a high art form. This can be seen in small textile samples, clothing, pictures and large wall hangings in the gallery of Applied Arts. Many of the works come from the young talents at the University of Applied Arts, contemporary pieces were contributed by the Wchutemas Art Academy in Moscow and historical examples from the Viennese workshops are on display. In other words, a rather colourful spectrum of textile interweavings to be admired.

Sale at Weltladen
FAIRlassmich is the name of the game in Vienna's Weltläden these days, and many pieces from the winter collection are let go at favourable prices. As long as the snowdrops are in bloom, it can get really cold again, after all. So a cosy jumper made of alpaca knitwear, produced under fair conditions in Peru or Bolivia, would be just the right thing. The cosy warm pieces from Anukoo (which is Hindi for “suitable”) and a lot of cotton items from the eco-label are on sale in the city centre branch at 40 percent off. The sale only runs until 28 February. Have fun wearing fair ;-)

Volkstheater Black Box
It's like secretly being a fly on the wall at the Volkstheater. As of today, visitors can explore the newly renovated theatre every weekend at five-minute intervals during “Black Box”. And you always walk through the corridors alone! Put on headphones, put on gloves – and then a voice guides you through the house, to otherwise inaccessible places, on stages, in dressing rooms – into the labyrinth of the fiction machine. The rooms come to life through your own steps and impulses; the conversations of the ensemble are in your ear. A whole house playing for one person!

Q202: This Street is Art
The annual atelier tour “Q202”, which always leads through the 2nd and 20th districts, has been cancelled. But in a shrunken form, new ways have been found for the project – putting art in the path of the Viennese right in the middle of the pavement: on the path “This street is Art”, artists present their objects on eight pedestals, including Ona B. with installations in the signal colour red. An oversized lock as a symbol of the lockdown and Coronavirus-like structures are also on display until the beginning of March. After that, they’ll show high-resolution photos of butterflies.

Camellias and Azalea Blossom
In 1776, the Swedish naturalist Karl Peter Thunberg brought a forbidden four camellias back to London from his trip to Japan. Three specimens were given to royal gardens, one of which ended up at Schönbrunn. To this day, the Palm House has a historical collection of camellias. And as always at this time of year, the beauties start to bloom – together with an opulent selection of azaleas, primroses and tulips. So off we go to Vienna's green lung, which is now open again – and exudes holiday vibes with its oxygen-rich and humid air. Ah, when will it finally be spring!

Minister Leonore Gewessler
Leonore Gewessler's department could also be called the “Ministry of the Future”: As minister of the environment, she’s responsible for climate protection, energy, mobility and innovation. You can find out what the Green politician is planning at the virtual talk in the Ladies Lounge of the WKO via Zoom today. Also exciting: Gewessler is not a trained party politician, but a career changer, she was managing director of Global 2000. So when you join the discussion you can also get tips for your career and profession – either live in conversation or in advance by e-mail.

Matthias Horx: The Principle of Regnosis
What if we could look into the future? That would certainly make a lot of things easier. The well-known trend and future researcher Matthias Horx is not a clairvoyant, but he has mastered the principle of regnosis, which he’ll present online for the first time at the Viktor Frankl Centre. The method is a mental technique by which you put yourself into the future and change your perspective. Instead of asking what can go wrong in self-fulfilment, the future ego is used to look back and ask: How did I do it? Clears your vision and opens the view to the path to success!

Paula Barembuem: 100 Years of Piazolla
The legendary Astor Piazzolla revolutionised the spirited national music of Argentina. This year, the founder of Tango Nuevo would celebrate his three-digit birthday – for the Porgy & Bess reason to make him resound anew tonight. In the live show “100 Years of Piazzolla”, the band “Trio Infernal” and singer Paula Barembuem take on the masterpieces creatively and with a lot of tempo. Sounds super authentic because the Viennese by choice, who is from Buenos Aires, was born with rhythm in her blood. Nothing is recorded, everything is happening in real time!

Pelvic floor exercises
Apart from the obvious, the bladder, the pelvic floor has many functions: It supports the internal organs, enables an upright posture and better sex. The 7-week VHS online course “Beckenbodengymnastik” (pelvic floor gymnastics) starts today with the steady development of the important muscles so that you gain more resilience in everyday life and prevent discomforts in old age. Also starting today (if there are enough registrations) is the “Muskel Fit” training to straighten out battered backs and bodywork to make up for office work. So that everyone stays healthy!

 Now Wow
Now Wow
No more tedious searching around! Living a plastic-free life without having to give up anything is now made so much easier with the new sustainable drugstore Now Wow. Organic glitter, recycled bin liners or lipstick that leaves just a shred of paper: It's all been collected by the two founders and tested by themselves. The offer in the shop with whitewashed walls is reduced to the essentials; wooden shelves are lined with low-packaging products for home, household, cleaning and cosmetics, from toothbrushes to feather dusters. Takes care of people and the environment.

Sacher’s Young Chefs
Now this is a truly nice idea for take-away food: At the posh Hotel Sacher, the apprentices have now taken the helm! Together with chef Stolzer, the ambitious young junior chefs have not only developed three menus, but also found an environmentally friendly packaging solution and designed the marketing. And the youngsters sure can cook! Each of the three menus (modern, traditional-Austrian and vegetarian) is finished at home in just a few steps – and I want this very sauce with my beef roulades for the rest of my life! If you order by 16:00, you can pick it up at 18:00.
