"Heya Girls!"
A piece of dance history returns to Vienna this week! 34 years ago, Belgian choreograph Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker created the piece “Rosas danst Rosas” – breathtaking, modern, and her breakthrough to her legendary international career. The “Rosas” were – even though it wasn’t planned as such – a strong bit of feminism: “Five Movements for Four Women” (the original subtitle) brings the power and sensitivity of women to the stage with an almost mathematical choreography. With late effects: In 2011, pop-diva Beyoncé used moves from that choreography for her clip “Countdown” – without asking. De Keersmaker reacted with composure and invited everybody to interpret the plagiarised dance passages themselves and make them public via clip. Which was an overwhelming success! Hundreds of videos made “Re:Rosas” a world-wide community project. And if you, like me, haven’t joined in yet, you can do it this week in Vienna! For one hour before and one hour after the show, we can dance Rosas – and be Rosas!

Wishing you a wild week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Elizaveta Porodina
The Bilderbuch of Elizaveta Porodina
Well, does that name ring a bell? CitySpotterGirl has been keeping an eye on the 30-year old exceptional photographer and multi-artist for a while – especially on her amazing portrait photos and iconic fashion editorials for Vogue, Hugo Boss, and Louis Vuitton. But now, after having placed Austrian Bilderbuch-singer Maurice Ernst at a dance pole in an unforgettably ingenious way in the music video “Bungalow”, you simply have to know (and love!) the native Muscovite. Starting now, her imaginative works can be seen in an extensive exhibition in Vienna. Go, go, go!

Friendship-picnic
Talking and eating brings people together. Yes, that may be an old saying, but it’s being interpreted in a completely new way today! Namely by the two starry-eyed idealists Ursula Kermer und Julia Scharinger who are hosting a cheerful-casual multi-culti picnic in Penzing. So if you live in the 14th or if you want to find friends from all cultures, just pack our favourite dish in a bag today! No matter if Kärntner Reindling, Russian chocolate cheesecake or Arabic semolina cake, it’s all about eating, chatting and laughing together. Don’t forget your picnic blanket!

And they say it only greens up in the spring! But autumn provides a colourful range of scented berry bushes, old fruit tree varieties and winter-proof herbs and vegetables, too. And to help all these organic-and rarities greens make their way into the city area as well, the Arche Nosh shop will pop up from 12 to 28 October at Rechte Wienzeile. So if you’ve always wanted to revamp your garden with an old plum tree, dreamed of a blueberry hedge on the balcony or if you still need to get some fresh potted herbs for the winter-kitchen, make your way to the 5th. Plenty of choice!

Clowns … don't know how to behave
Humour is still the best medicine! For instance for lovesickness, constant brooding, or pondering problems. Theatre educator and actress Susanne Kadletz is aware of that, which is why she’s hosting a two-day clown-workshop. A mix of physical exercises, meditation, and improvisation-games will teach you how to deal with fears in an easy and playful manner, how to laugh yourself to health – and particularly, how to get back up on your feet again gracefully after having fallen flat on your face. A cheers for clowns and their unconventional, creative and funny strategies for solving problems!

Women of Ravensbrück
They were young and old, political or religious, racially persecuted or had been drawn into the Nazi annihilation machine: the women of Ravensbrück. 70 years ago, the survivors of the biggest concentration camp for women joined together in a sort of “camp community” to collectively process, to remember, and to warn. A walk through the city on the occasion of the founding anniversary gives you the chance to visit places of remembrance and of resistance and to follow the tracks of Rosa Jochmann, Regine Chum and other courageous women.

Uli Brée: Schwindelfrei
While you wait for “Vorstadtweiber” to dispense their venom on TV again, you can delight in revelling in female abysses in the written medium. “Vorstadtweiber”-creator Uli Brée’s second novel also tells stories about women, reminding us about our own love highlights and painful crashes. “Schwindelfrei” is about the first sex, fleeting love for a stranger, dirty fantasies, and absurd dreams, about big passion, hormones and chocolate. So beautiful! Today, the Algerian star singer/songwriter Souad Massi opens the Salam Orient Music Festival at Porgy with her new album. Kleingeldaffaire 3
What’s the life of a mistress like? Exciting, exhausting, on top of the world one moment, down in the dumps and in the depths of despair the next? Elfriede Hammerl looks into the soul of “the“ mistress with a lot of humour and analytical wit. Her novel “Kleingeldaffaire“ came out in 2011; “Kleingeldaffaire 3“ is a new theatre version of the comedy – with three women in their prime age shaken up by love and life as main protagonists. “I’m not interested in why people freak out but why they don’t”, says the author. And now the grandmaster of couture, too, has found his way to Kohlmarkt! Or should we say: God himself? Karl Lagerfeld has opened his first store in Austria. The good news: the home brand of the Chanel- and Fendi wizard is actually affordable. They focus on bags, but they also offer elegant women’s wear, jewellery, and shoes. Currently, there’s a lot in black/white (like refined tie-neck schoolgirl blouses) and whiskery motives for fans of Karl’s cat Choupette, that adorn glittery clutches, caps and fingerless gloves. Hopefully not just a culinary shooting star, but longer in the sky! The restaurant at the Urania has new tenants and has been smartened up quite nicely. More light and more hip than before and the view of the water is top anyway. For lunch, you may confidently treat yourself to a two-course meal for 12.50 € because it’s all very “low carb”, with lots of greens and healthy stuff like pumpkin salad, pepper filled with Ebly wheat, or free-range chicken. Breakfast is served all day, they don’t count the calories for the pancakes (also raw!), porridge & co, but the proteins listed in the menu. Sounds better anyway!
