"Heya Girls!"
This week is smiling on fashionistas: “C´mon, let’s check out some fashion” will be pretty much the battle cry of the next few days. It already starts on Thursday with the Vienna Fashion Night. 60 shops, great limited editions, sales and goodies, cocktails and shows, fashion parties and pop-up-stores turn the inner city into a fashion hot spot. The big Fashion Show will take place on the terrace of Erste Bank Lounge at Graben and will be hosted by Boutique Sterngasse 4. If you have special interest in native fashion newcomers you’ll really enjoy yourself in Hetzendorf. On two days (Monday and Tuesday), fashion students will present their trend visions and the best final project designs on the catwalk – in a big fashion tent with 500 seats and a wonderful view of the palace garden. And since vintage is one of the biggest fashion trends these days, Dorotheum will host an online auction of luxury fashion and accessories of days gone by – with beautiful pieces by Issey Miyake (photo), Chanel and Hermès.

Wishing you a well-dressed week

Jonathan Meese: Moonparsifal
He has referred to himself as “culture terrorist” and was banned from Bayreuth, where he was supposed to direct Parsifal. For Festival Vienna, Jonathan Meese “may” now show his reinterpretation of the Wagner piece as a space opera. For this, Parsifal was catapulted into space and into a revolutionary year in a far-flung future. The music is provided by Bernhard Lang, who closely follows the libretto and the structure of Wagner’s opera, while simultaneously creating a whole new universe of sound. And everyone who’s familiar with maniac Meese and his approach to art can guess: that’s some wicked stuff!

Kiefer Sutherland
Not Enough Whiskey In Europe! Thinks Hollywood-star Kiefer Sutherland who’s currently touring Austria as a musician (yes really!) under this title. Today at WUK, fans of the “24”-actor can see for themselves that he can’t only play in front of the camera. In the course of his 30-year career, he has found other projects that he pursued with dedication and commitment. He had a ranch, bred cattle and participated successfully at many “roping” events as a cowboy. And now as Americana-singer with his husky voice, he’s definitely captivating as well! Ohlala, a very special barbecue event at one of the cosiest places of the city! In the beautiful garden of Palace Coburg, wine grower Luc Richard from southern France and native snail farmer Andreas Gugumuck will fire up the grill today. Or rather: the log fire. Because that’s where the snails filled with a drop of melted bacon will be roasted, which is a Catalonian speciality called “cargolade”. There will also be rump steaks, Merguez-sausages and duck breast, served with French wine! Merveilleux!

After the sensational success of last year, the ViennaPhotoBookFestival has now definitely become Europe’s most important photo book festival. In any case, today there will be a (private!) flea market with about 50 stalls on the 500 square metres of the former supermarket store in Schallergasse. There will be a colourful mix of clothes, bags, tableware, DVDs, knick-knacks, funny stuff, horrible stuff, old and new stuff and stupid junk ;-) And since the “Wiener Wunderweiber” (Viennese Wonder Women) are behind it, you can bet there will be a really nice women’s group bustling about!

Learning to be happy
How do you keep happiness from slipping through your fingers like sand and make it last: today, psychologist Angela Winkler is giving a talk and offers ideas on how to find lasting happiness. After all, there’s quite a lot you can contribute yourself. Factors like relationship status and bank account balance are actually not really crucial – which is something that happiness research confirms. Here’s a neat idea in advance: collect small moments of happiness, write them down and put them into a glass. Whenever you need it, draw one out and remember one of these happy moments!

Sexuality and Islam: What does it mean to be Muslim girl and live in a free and western society? For the KosmosTheater, young Muslim and western actresses have created a candid and personal evening of theatre. Based on the women’s monologues of the play “Black Virgins” by Feridun Zaimoglu, they incorporate their own experiences with regard to gender roles, moral concepts, love, virginity, choosing a partner, sexual self-determination and honour.
