"Heya Girls!"
Does anyone remember the beginnings of the CitySpotterGirl? Back then there was exactly 1 (in words: one) design market a year (at Christmas at the Looshaus), and the word pop up had never been even heard off. And that was only a few years ago! In the meantime, something like an explosion of creativity took place. There is an abundance of design markets now – and this weekend one of the most important ones is happening. At the Edelstoff, 140 international and Austrian exhibitors move into the Marx Hall in order to show off their fashion, furniture, product and kids designs, art, delicacies, accessories and jewelry. And this time the selection is not only limited to products from and for urban individualists to discover, but even whole ateliers. The designers are producing their pieces right then and there and anybody can take a look at their work. The hungry get to enjoy streetfood, the tired can make use of the chill-out-area which is equipped with comfortable lounge-furniture from Catrinette and Carla Wien. And even here the motto is: anything can be bought on site!

Wishing you a beautiful week
Your CitySpotterGirl

Pop up store for summer fans
It seems like these three ladies can’t wait for summer to begin ;-) The designer Theresa Schöffel arrives all the way from Styria, the delicate jewelry comes from Guntramsdorf and the unique summer bags from TAZI are produced in Colombia. The incredibly pretty pieces are being sold at a pop up store at the Freihausviertel (4th district) for two days: beautiful hand printed tunics and bikinis from Theresa Schöffel, big bracelets from Lights of Vienna Decor and fun bags. All in all, the available pieces are wonderful must-haves for this summer that you are allowed to wear during spring already for a change ;-)

Being with friends
A wonderful story: author Jwan Joo Daod met twelve young guys from Syria in August of 2015 in Lower Austria and worked with them on a cook and story book full of Syrian recipes and stories. That is how the book “Zu Gast bei Freunden” (“Being with friends”) was created and donation money was collected for the men (who are now recognized refugees). Today, publisher Jürgen Ehrmann talks about the extraordinary project and the next book “Kochen mit Hamed Hummus und Fatima Falafel” (“Cooking with Hamed Hummus and Fatima Falafel”). Before that, Gertraud Diem-Wille will be speaking about “Emigration and identity”.

Season opening Strandbar Herrmann
The weather forecast is promising 20 degrees and sunshine! Which means: today the beach season begins! At least at the beach bar Strandbar Herrmann at the Danube canal. The bar presents itself as the prettiest beach bar of all times – with fresh sand, new chairs, renovated terraces and new drinks. It opens at 14:00 today, so you can soak up as much sunshine as possible, yippee! The musically sweet summer-vibes for your chill-session come from Djane Sweet Susie, supported by “almost resident” DJ Leon. And when it does get colder: (warming) cocktail happy hour from 18:00 to 19:00!

GartenKULT pop up store
You don’t have to drive all the way to the next garden center to satisfy your green cravings! Since last week, a nice range of gardening-supplies is being sold in front of the MuseumsQuartier. There, the garden shop Starkl is running a pop up store, surrounding a small green house you can buy (when the weather is nice) trees, potted plants and urban-gardening-accessories, also cultivation pots for the window sill – and seedbombs for gardenless guerilla-gardeners ;-) You can read even more about brilliant gardening in the city in the CitySpotterGirl’s garden book, also available at the pop up store!

The Monroes
Four neckties, two guitars, one contrabass, one drum set and last but not least four great voices – that’s all you need to revive the good, old rock’n’roll from the 50ies! The “Monroes”, consisting of Hanno Pinter, Alex Zoppel, Andreas Mager and David Breznik, have been performing for two decades. And of course, they master that sexy leg-whip thing combined with the sultry-look perfectly ;-) Today they will be rocking and rolling at the Metropol once again. The musical focus will not only be put on rock’n’roll, but also on the beat of the 60ies, which is no less energetic. Practice rocking here!

Flea market at the Liechtensteinpark
Digging for hidden treasures and breathing in fresh air is what bargain-hunters can enjoy today at the idyllic Liechtensteinpark. Because there, a “real” flea market is taking place (which means one that doesn’t happen every week). Which results in a very colorful and widely varied collection of treasures – there will be antique pieces, art, porcelains, jewelry and clothes, books and CDs. And everyone who has discovered a few pieces they want to part with during their Easter cleanup can rent one of the still available stands (for 15 €). Afterwards, you can take a stroll around the park and comfortably enjoy a piece of cake.

Klimt atelier season opening
There are places in Vienna that fortunately haven’t been run over by people yet. The “Klimt Villa” in Hietzing is one of those places. There, Gustav Klimt had his last atelier from 1911 to 1918 (back then the house was still a lot smaller), 5 years ago, the villa was renovated extensively – but nevertheless it remains an insider’s tip in the city. Today, the new season starts after the winter break is over – with interesting overview-guided tours, musical performances and a surprise. Because as a highlight of the opening, Gustav Klimt’s grandsons are expected for a “meet and greet”.

Volkstheater-„Meet & Greet“
Fun event around a small red Fiat! Because the mini-car is the secret star of the Volkstheater-hit play “Klein Zaches – Operation Zinnober”. When the cast is cruising around the stage in it, the audience goes wild laughing. Today, the small car has the day off from acting and will be driven outside and placed in front of the theater in order for fans to be able to sit in it. The actors of the play Anja Herden, Gabor Biedermann & co will be there as well, wearing their costumes – and the cable car, which is also part of the play. Perfect setting for a selfie, photo-sessions are very much encouraged!

On both days free bike-checks will be available as well and even a bike-wash station will be put up. WienWein wine presentation
A sip of pointless knowledge to start out with: the almost 700 hectares big wine-growing area within Vienna is the only one in the world, which is entirely located inside a metropolis. All people who enjoy Viennese wine, can basically drink themselves through all vines and vineries from the Cobenzl to Fuhrgassl-Huber to Mayer am Pfarrplatz together with the top-wine makers Rainer Christ, Thomas Podsednik, Michael Edlmoser, Thomas Huber, Gerhard J. Lobner and Fritz Wieninger today at the WienWein-tasting. And personally talk with the wine-kings about their most recent precious wines. Cheers to you!

Balbina
This is how poetically smart German-pop is done! “ Why do Lilies of the Valley always face downward? Why am I always so tired, what keeps me alive and why?” The German songwriter Balbina is asking herself “Fragen über Fragen” (“questions and more questions”) in her second album and takes the audience tonight at the WUK on a musical research trip. She is cautiously addressing everyday riddles, searching for “word groups in letter soups” and for luck. All the while floating around the stage, wearing a heavy, Asian style dress, seeming like a doll or a puppet. Artistic, edgy and very cool!

“Aus heiterem Himmel”
Three android nymphs, one fish, one cathedral, one pipe organ and one black hole: put together they make up something like baroque science fiction. The last part of the “Goodbye Europe”- trilogy is set in the future, at a sacred place. The hope for a united Europe is long gone and a cathedral is built around the last oil hole of the world. There, the nymphs live, so they can rediscover things. Dance and text create a picture book, including (real!) guests such as: the Viennese musician Skero, NHM-director Christian Köberl, Friedhelm Frischenschlager, former Minister of Defense, and philosopher Martin Kusch.

Trude & Elvis
How do you become the private secretary of Elvis Presley? A new exhibition at the Jewish Museum is dedicated to the interesting biography of Trude Forsher. Born in Vienna in 1920, she managed to escape to London in 1938 and from London she made her way to New York. And from there she went on to Hollywood – where, with the help of a distantly related music producer-couple, she got a job that made many teenagers back then envious: Trude started working for Elvis Presley and his manager. Later, she entered the film business as a producer, in her retirement Trude Forsher helped divorced mothers.

Drawing can be many things: very simple and super complex. Most important is that it is fun! Artist Sabine Freitag is showing during a workshop today how to get there in a playful manner. With simple exercises and through the creative exchange of different approaches of art among the participants, you can enthusiastically doodle, sketch and illustrate. Inspiration can be obtained right then and there – for example from texts or, in good weather, also from outside. Please bring your own materials like paper, pencils and ink; “used” paper like newspapers is welcome as well. Both for beginners and experts!

 Galician Gourmet Extravaganza
Galician Gourmet Extravaganza
Honestly, who knows (in a culinary sense) anything about Galicia? But the region in the North-West of Spain offers so much, even only considering the abundance of fish. In order for non-Spaniards to also have the chance to taste local delicacies like “Percebes” (barnacles), top-chefs from Galicia have been touring through Europe’s capital cities since 2015 with a “Galician Gourmet Extravaganza”. Now, for the first time, they are stopping in Vienna; today at the 57 Restaurant (on the top floor of the DC Tower, wow!) delicacies like razor clams with sea urchin-mousse are served. Once again: wow!

Easter Market
Oh yes, Easter is coming soon! In case the decoration-knick knacks-inventory at home didn’t result in satisfaction, it’s worth it to take a trip to the 14th district. There, a small Easter market is taking place right now, with a great selection of seriously extraordinary and exceptionally artfully created eggs. For example Ukrainian eggs, painted elaborately with a wax-technique, goose eggs with “Zentangle”-owls, duck eggs with a pretty peekaboo design, colorful Sorbian eggs or fun caricature eggs. Also: greeting cards, egg warmers, felt pieces, egg liqueur, Easter candy, wild garlic pesto and other treats. Yep!

Karin Kasaj
Already more than 20 years ago, Karin Kasaj realized what was missing in Vienna: chic Italo-fashion, elegant, but affordable. Ever since then, she has been running (by now two) stores at Wollzeile, and now the ladies in Währing can also look forward to frequently changing fashion-collections from Bella Italia. At store numero 3 there is a play of colors between blue shades, white and gaudy red, in between for once not maritime stripes but a flowery pattern. The dresses are cut brilliantly and super feminine; the classical summer-trench has a brother with ruffles on the lapel – seriously molto italiano ;-)

Cafebrennerei Franze
It was definitely time for the always super full Himmelblau at the Kutschkermarket to get some relief. The bright and lovingly furnished Cafebrennerei (coffee distillery) Franze, a new locale at the upper end of the market, comes along comfortably, with couches, a big communal table, but also small tables for two. And the menu is a hit: next to coffee specialties, self-roasted, from countries like Ethiopia or Hawaii, there are also around 200 tea types! Recommendation of the CitySpotterGirl: Egyptian date tea that should brew for a while! Additionally, there are great pastries and also small quiches or bagels.
