"Heya Girls!"
I’d like to send my regards to all those who have left for the holidays already. Enjoy it! But we here still at home are having quite a good time as well. Especially since one of my favourite summer events is whirling back into the city, the ImPulsTanz Festival! Europe's biggest get-together for contemporary dance brings 120 cool international performances to the city this year, plus over 190 workshops, parties and exhibitions – makes it hard even for me to recommend individual dance events ;-) One of the highlights is certainly Alexandra Bachzetsis who brings together seeming opposites in “Private Song”: rembetiko and wrestling, love and war – until pop culture, fashion, performance and dance merge. At the MQ Libelle, international artists pay homage to Beys with the motto “Happy Birthday Mr. Beuys!”. And when day turns into night, the ImPulsTanz Festival Lounge opens its doors to night owls and dance enthusiasts: in the new, wonderfully opulent lounge location in the Kursalon at Stadtpark.
Wishing you a moving week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Pippa
“Egal” (doesn’t matter)? Actress and musician Pippa Galli aka Pippa delivered the alternative pop summer hit of 2020 with her hymn to indifference. It's been played over and over on FM4 ever since, and rightly so! Her mixture of indie, pop and 80s Neue Deutsche Welle is fun to listen to, the lyrics are funny without being silly – in short: Pippa is simply hip. Meanwhile, she has already finished her second album “Idiotenparadies”, the accompanying tour fell through due to you-know-what. Now she plays with her band at the Theater am Spittelberg. Worth listening to!

Vienna Art Box
Freud with monkeys and Falco, chewing gum machines and floating pink elephants, views over the city and at the pub table – Vienna in all its facets is shown in the new exhibition of the Vienna Art Box. 25 different contemporary artists have created drawings, oil and acrylic paintings, photographs and art prints. The latter are the specialty of the Vienna Art Box, which gives young artists the opportunity to bring their works into our living rooms at a small price. By the way: The KMG Art Gallery will once again host the “Kunstsupermarkt” in autumn.
KMG Art Gallery, Mariahilfer Straße 103, 1060 Vienna. 6-29 July Tue-Thu 14:00 to 18:00. Free. Web

Die Verliebten
Not for the faint of heart! In the burlesque summer theatre tent in the middle of Am Hof, Goldoni is being performed – after a year's delay. Except that his play has been transported to Vienna. Adi Hirschal is the heir to a run-down palace on Ringstrasse and the overburdened uncle of two nieces who couldn't be more different. Threatened by a constant lack of money, he tries to marry off his two nieces Flori and Violetta with artistic sense and cooking skills. With a happy ending, accompanied by three wonderful musicians, every Jack will find his Jill.

Sale at Raumkomplett
The pretty design objects in architect Doris Ackerl's shop are not only beautiful, but also sustainably and socially produced. Unusual: she declares the range with a list of "ingredients" – abbreviations stand for zero waste, social focus or material recycling. During the sale, you can buy all this at a reduced price: tables, chairs, stylish lamps and unusual coat racks are 30 percent off! Glasses, cosmetics and odds and ends are also on offer – after all, there's plenty of space to be made for new things. A bargain purchase with a clear conscience. Great!

Michael Niavarani: Reset
Michael Niavarani is putting out lots of stuff: books, cabarets, films, a podcast – and a new comedy for the stage! In “Reset” he plays the businessman Herbert, from whom everyone wants something: his wife more romance, his half-brother an inheritance, his secretary a child and his best friend even wants him to hide a suitcase of money with him. Herbert is trying to run away with it when he has an accident – and loses his memory. Niavarani plus a good cast (partly from the Kabarett Simpl) plus an airy location means: could be damn funny!

We Bandits |
|
Summer Sale at We Bandits
Some of you might remember: the Viennese fair fashion brand We Bandits originally started as a mini-shop selling pieces from small independent labels from South Korea and Scandinavia. In the meantime, they exclusively sell their own sustainably produced clothes online, from dresses to (very pretty!) pyjama trouser suits, but in the store they still have the handpicked brands that you rarely if ever find in Vienna. Doesn't really matter anyway, because both they and pieces from their own collection are currently on sale: 40 to 70 percent off. Cool!

Painting the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel
You may experience Vienna as a tourist even if you live here! Today you can do this in a relaxed way on the Kaiserwiese in the Prater, where you learn to paint with pastel crayons under supervision – with the Ferris Wheel as motif. Always more of an attraction for visitors of Vienna than for the original Viennese, you can now discover the flair of the unknown in their own city and look at the Ferris wheel from the artist's point of view. Materials such as chalks, apron and canvas are provided, the painting lesson is explicitly suitable for beginners too!
Kaiserwiese, Oswald-Thomas-Platz 1, 1020 Vienna. 17 July 15:00. Register. 50 €. Web

Yoga on the jetty
We all know what yoga can do: it lowers stress levels, stretches the muscles and strengthens the immune system. And it makes you happy! Especially when it takes place outdoors directly on the water. Like the yoga classes on the jetty at the “Bootshaus” restaurant on the lower Old Danube. Every Saturday and Sunday, relaxed morning yoga sessions are held there with professionals from the yoga studio “natural High”: with sun salutations, the basic yoga postures and important breathing and relaxation techniques. Previous experience is not necessary. And afterwards you can treat yourself to breakfast at the Bootshaus. So great!

Murder at the Greenhouse
Fans of the cult musical “Little Shop of Horrors” will love this new exhibition in the Palm House! There are no man-eating plants there, but carnivores are not that rare among the plants, and they are certainly fascinating! “The wonderful world of carnivorous plants” is the name of the exhibition of plants that attract insects in order to eat them. The carnivores in the botanical collection of the Austrian Federal Gardens are more than well represented with over 5,000 exhibits. If you want to watch unusual plants “hunting”, you should definitely go!

Flea market in the Seidengasse
A small private flea market is taking place in the Zieglergasse district this weekend, and it sounds very nice: second-hand clothes and books, but also pre-loved furnishing items will be for sale. It's a great way to get new things and still stay sustainable. A “to give away” area invites you to browse. If, contrary to expectations, you don't find anything, there will be a small cake bazaar with homemade baked goods to comfort you. And if you're still hungry, you can stop off at the delicious Vietnamese restaurant Tata – it's right across the street.

Palais “Freiluft” at the Auersperg
Afterwork outdoors, in the middle of the city! Palais Auersperg is often used as a noble backdrop for weddings and balls. Now it opens its garden for the summer and becomes an outdoor oasis for everyone – including cool catering. Drinks are provided by Viennese cocktail maker Liquid Market, for example, and for dinner there's really tasty street food like fresh stockfish from Dogenhof. The stands are spread throughout the park, and the food is served on garden furniture, in the small beer garden or, the classic, on a picnic blanket. Accompanied by electronic music from Vienna. “Shared Schanigarten”, so to speak.

Cuca Roseta |

Cuca Roseta
Viva Fado! The fadista Cuca Roseta is one of the most famous singers in Portugal, where this musical style originated. Melancholic fado has a very old tradition, but Cuca Roseta is one of the few new, young interpreters. Accompanied by two guitars and a bass, the soprano from Lisbon presents her current album “Meu” (“Mine”). Roseta has written and composed all the songs on the new album entirely herself, and they are her most personal to date. The themes have remained unchanged, though: longing, heartbreak, and a lot of tragedy.

Homeopathy for skin rashes
Particularly annoying in summer: a sun allergy, inflamed insect bites or even neurodermatitis? If you have an itchy rash on your skin, conventional medicine can often help with symptom control only. And that can be very exhausting for the body. Alternatively, there is homeopathy: the body is given a very small amount of the rash-promoting substance to stimulate its self-healing powers. Whether itchy, scaly, dry or oozing – at today’s lecture, you learn which homeopathic remedies help against skin irritations in lieu of cortisone & co.

Lisa Steiner |

Pimp.Your.Room
Originally, interior designer Lisa Steiner “only” wanted to offer an online service for decoration concepts and individual design advice. But the many pretty interior design objects she came across in the process were crying out to be exhibited! Now she has opened a small but fine design shop at the end of Burggasse. Here you can find crockery, vases, candles, candlesticks and other decorative items, mainly from small manufacturers. All things that are all the rage in the design world right now. Tip: The stationery section full of amazing hand-illustrated cards!
Pimp.Your.Room, Burggasse 111, 1070 Vienna. Tue 9:00 to 16:00, Wed 10:00 to 18:00, Thu 12:00 to 18:00, Fri 10:00 to 19:00, Sat until 14:00. Web

La Grande Dame |

La Grande Dame
From both terraces you have a view of the Grande Dame, the monumental plane tree next to the Ambrosi studio. And around the beautiful tree in the Augarten, they have placed lots of deckchairs. On hot days and evenings this is salvation, on normal days a paradisiacal spot in Vienna. During the summer, the pop-up restaurant is occupied by “Health Kitchen” and “BrotZeit”: creative open sandwiches are on the menu, as is excellent salmon-avocado-tartare. And in the evening, huge hanging lamps in the trees provide dim light in this hidden city oasis, that’s when it gets really romantic.
La Grande Dame, Scherzergasse 1A, 1020 Vienna. Until October. Mon-Fri from 12:00, Sat+Sun from 9:00.
