"Heya Girls!"
It’s rather fascinating how a change of location detoxes your brain. You go to London for a couple of days and come back with a dozen new ideas and a whole new perspective of your own city. This is pretty close to what happens at a funny event at Weltmuseum on Friday. Following the familiar speed dating procedure, visitors are invited to strike up a conversation with each other via objects from the versatile collections. Every three minutes, you change tables and meet different things and people. Prior knowledge is not required for “Object Speed Dating”, though curiosity is. What you gain in exchange is a large portion of new impressions, new information and new acquaintances. By the way: the museum does not accept liability for any (on this evening not intended) romantic developments ;-)
Wishing you a fascinating week,
Your CitySpotterGirl
Meeting point: columned hall, Weltmuseum, Heldenplatz, 1010 Vienna. 1 February 19:00. Free entry. Web

Sale at Evelyn Z.
Boutique-proprietress Evelyn used to be a frequently travelling model, which is why she created her ideal wardrobe as a designer: light, crease-free, easy to combine, and comfortable in all climate zones. She made a find in Tuscany, which is where she’s been getting the special transparent fabric that her collections are made from. Very chic and very practical! Currently she is selling off the winter things, her own creations from shirt to dress are up to 50 percent off. Also included in the sale (up to minus 70 percent): a few cashmere and faux fur coats!

 Cuca Roseta
Cuca Roseta
Beautiful woman with a beautiful voice: one of the most interesting singers of today’s “young” fado is in town today! Cuca Roseta is also known as the lead actress of Carlos Saura’s film “Fados”, the young fadista has even performed for the Spanish royal family and the pope and vocally bewitched them with her expressive soprano. Her current album “Luz” is a real masterpiece and represents the light that illuminates her artistic path. Her songs thoroughly let you feel the warmth and passion of fado – even those who don’t master Portuguese. Listen in here!

Alles kann passieren. Ein Polittheather
Time and again, it’s shocking and unbelievable what kind of stuff these gents utter! To illustrate how some of Europe’s leading politicians verbally challenge human rights, democracy, and the European community, author Doron Rabinovici (based on an idea of Florian Klenk) has compiled a book composed of speeches and statements by Kickl, Orbàn, Salvini, Kaczynski and Strache. Four actresses like Petra Morzé read from it today at the Burgtheater. Unfortunately, it’s some very real political theatre, revealing the presence of the illiberal turn in Europe.

Darkside tour at Natural History
Spooky and atmospheric at the same time: at night, the old walls of the Museum of Natural History are completely abandoned and would make for a good location for a horror movie ;-) How fitting then that night owls and nosy people can explore the darkened halls during a flash light tour tonight. The main topic will be nocturnal animals. After the expedition through the exhibition rooms and the Anthropological department, it’s off to the roof of the museum. There you can enjoy the wonderful view of the city and sip a glass of sparkling wine.

Carmina Austriaca
Very exciting! The Vienna Boys Choir brings Medieval songs to the stage with “Carmina Austriaca”, the Austrian (!) equivalent of Carl Orff’s famous “Carmina Burana”. For this, texts by well-known poets like Walther von der Vogelweide or Oswald von Wolkenstein were chosen and carefully transferred to modern language, the infectious tunes were newly arranged. After last year’s big success, the oeuvre will now be performed in the chamber music version – accompanied by a captivating dance performance. Wow! Foretaste here.

WingTsun – Self-Defence for Women
One thing is for sure: one afternoon workshop won’t turn you into an ace at self-defence. But simply the knowledge that you can defend yourself in an emergency changes your body-language and you are less likely to be seen as a victim. WingTsun was invented by a Chinese nun who wanted to successfully defend herself against the assaults of men. That’s why WingTsun is not a competitive sport but purely a technique of self-defence without contortions or top physical performances. You rather learn to redirect the attacker’s strength for your own protection.

Die Wirtschaft Ihrer Majestät
Come in, dear ladies, today we are elegantly twirling ourselves right into the 18th century. Back then, Candlemas on 2 February marked the beginning of Fasching at the Viennese Court – which allowed for shenanigans and role swaps. Allegedly, some counts even turned into cooks and some duchesses into maids for the exuberant Fasching activities. How scandalous ;-) Tonight, this affair of the past enjoys a renaissance, there is a ball in Hernals with the style and music of the 18th century. Dress code: historic costume, from plain everyday-wear to elegant gowns.

Into the Great Outdoors
The poetry of nature in the 19th century: The “atmospheric”-impressionists from Waldmüller to Schindler render homage to untouched nature during the time of the industrialisation, creating a clear alternative concept to the pompous painting of Historicism. The beautiful exhibition “Into the Great Outdoors” currently shows 90 works, from Rudolf Ribarz’ “Apfelbäumchen” to Otto von Thoren’s “Seebad bei Trouville”. Included are also pictures by „Prater paintress” Tina Blau who managed to make a name for herself as an exceptional landscapist in a male dominated area.

Big private flea market
There is certainly no shortage of flea markets in Vienna, but this one seems to finally be a “real” one again. Meaning lots of old and curious stuff ;-) Even just the picture wall with old (and new) aquarelles, etchings, pen drawings, oil paitings and reverse glass paintings looks promising. Rare finds and collector’s items like big illuminated letters, old valve radios, art nouveau tiles and worn-out vintage suitcases are also waiting for new owners. There are also tables full of knick-knack and many boxes to rummage through – you can find anything from apothecary bottles to a vases!

 The Japanese House
The Japanese House
Originally, British woman Amber Bain wanted to become a politician. But these youthful ambitions were quickly gone when her father gifted her with an acoustic guitar. And it wasn’t long until the young newcomer attracted the attention of well-known producers with her dreamy and perfect-sounding alternative pop. A melancholy debut followed, her songs radiate “electronic peaceableness and luxurious serenity” (critics jargon) – and according to rumours, she will come to Vienna with a completely new long-player. It’s going to be a chill evening, you can listen in here.

Ingrid Diem
How much woman can you take? Today at her first comedy show, soul singer Ingrid Diem throws jokes about love handles, muscle breakdown and dating apps into the audience. When she was unable to put on her favourite jeans without a special jump technique and in the presence of her chiropractor, she decided to reach her ideal BMI to finally look photoshopped. For that she’d use any means necessary. It just sucked that the sunlight diet didn’t agree with her and that she had to fake the trance at her “hypnosis for your ideal weight” ;-) Funny experience with body culture & co today at CasaNova!

Jan Böhmermann
Since his defamatory poem against Erdogan (for which there was a complaint filed), Grimme Award-winner Jan Böhmermann is known in our country as well. Today, you can see the insubordinate presenter and satirist live, and singing: he is on a big “rebuilding” tour with the legendary Rundfunk Tanzorchester Ehrenfeld right now. The plan: to bring muscle hangovers to every last leg of the continent ;-) The orchestra gives a great performance and according to Böhmermann himself, he sings everything that’s possible. “Paleskinnyboy does his job – hits only!”, he boasts pompously-likable. Le Burger
It’s been a long time since CitySpotterGirl had such a tasty burger as this “Licht ins Dunkel”-burger. With grilled goat cheese, pears, spinach and a bun of red (!) wheat. But the stylish “Le Burger” has already proven that fast food can actually taste good back at MaHü. Now another venue was opened in the elegant design hotel Lamee. Here, too, all burgers are handmade and all ingredients come from local suppliers.
