"Heya Girls!"
It’s somewhat sad. There are still tons of women from Vienna's past to be discovered who have made a significant contribution to the history of the city, to Viennese modernism and the artistic movements after World War I – and who nobody knows today. Repressed, forgotten, underestimated in their importance. One of them is Elena Luksch-Makowsky, who became the first female member of the Vienna Secession in 1901. The painter and sculptor, born in St. Petersburg in 1878, married the Viennese artist Richard Luksch after traveling extensively. She lived and worked with him in Vienna, where she became one of the central protagonists of Viennese Modernism: exhibited at the Secession, created designs for Wiener Werkstätte, and designed prints for the magazine Ver Sacrum. From September 23, the Belvedere will dedicate a special exhibition to her. Quite a discovery!

Wishing you a feminine week,

We like: relaxed, local shopping! Ten designers have come together in a small but nice pop-up on Gumpendorfer Straße in order to offer for sale the highlights from their current collections. Including comfortable wrap-around fashion by Viennese designer BABS, hand-coloured scarves with filigree leaf patterns by Marianne Reich, contemporary 3D printed artwork by mymagpie, groovy patterned fashion by Edith Langer as well as stylish jackets and coats by the Budapest twins ille-olla – all pieces are real eye-catchers, like everything here!

Vienna City Gallery Walk
Today you have to choose: either taking a leisurely stroll or really going for speed. Either watch a few gems or work through the entire tour. Because at the Vienna City Gallery Walk, over 30 galleries present a versatile programme today and tomorrow with numerous exhibitions openings and guided art tours. Portable art can be admired at the “Take the Plunge” exhibition, for example. Inspired by flotsam from the sea, artists have created unusual pieces of jewellery – for example with sea shells. It starts at 16:00 – and there’s much to discover!

Microbiome as Fountain of Youth
The microbiome is the accumulation of the trillions of micro-organisms that live on and in our body, especially in the intestine. Tonight, doctors Karin Stengg and Barbara Sladek will explain the long underestimated intestinal microbiome and its influence on numerous processes in the body. After all, when a person ages, the microbiome also ages and can have an effect on the hormone balance, the immune system and on inflammations. To ensure that the small microorganisms remain in balance for as long as possible and that we remain healthy, the experts provide tips and answer questions.

Crime reading by Thomas Raab
A reading where you also have something to look at: literature-beau Thomas Raab presents his latest crime novel “Helga räumt auf”. This time, detective Hanni Huber has to go to the stables and search for the corpse in the haystack. And this despite the fact that she actually wanted to enjoy the wonderful peace and quiet of the countryside. But there are lots of things amiss with the cattle and pig farmers, and young Helga in her flower dress also seems strange to the Huber woman. Black humour at its best and dark storytelling: Thomas Raab rightly is one of the most sought-after crime novelists in the country. Swoon ;-)

 Art Adventure
Karlskirche in watercolours
There are places that impress you even the hundredth time you walk past them. Like the Karlskirche, for example, which simply looks damn good. With “art Adventure” the beauty is put on paper today, the place directly in front of the sacred building serves as atelier. At “Paint Your Souvenir” you always paint in front of special backdrops; the locations should inspire you because the motto is: motif = location. Like the Ferris wheel in the Prater (tomorrow), for instance, or Falco at the Central Cemetery. The necessary materials are provided and you can take the self-painted work of art home at the end.

Sculpture Garden
A romantic park, an enchanted castle and a whole troop of female artists: This is Schloss25, a new artistic women's collective. Today the ladies open the sculpture garden “Hortus Conclusus” in the park of the castle that was built in 1872 by Theodor Ritter von Hittnern as a hunting lodge in the 13th district. Instead of permanence, the works (for example by Nana Mandl and Ona B.) focus on change: wind and weather will cause the works to change in form and colour. And many a work of art is dangling from the trees here ;-)

Laxenburg: Knight Tournament on horseback
Fire-eaters, juggling jugglers and knights: a medieval festival transforms the Laxenburg castle park into a colourful tent city on the weekend. There will be live music in proper style, strolling through market stalls and booths to compete in axe and spear throwing. The highlight, however, is the great knights' tournament on horseback, where the brave showmen perform daring tricks. There is a chance to see the show twice a day, and the seats are “first come, first served”. If you are hungry or thirsty, you can stop by in the gastro tents for barbecue and a mug of mead.

Yoga - breath - voice
Everyone does it all the time without even thinking about it: breathing. Breathing is not only vital (no kidding), but with the right technique it also helps to create a strong voice. Speech therapist Sanne Stria and yoga teacher Nadine Petzel show in the 3-part course “Yoga - Breath - Voice” which yoga positions and techniques are suitable for this. The course starts today with exercises to widen the chest and make the rib muscles elastic. Kapalabhati is perfect for mobilising the diaphragm. There are also do's and dont's for voice care and sound tips.

SOS Ballon needs toys
In October, the time has come: On the 27th, the SOS Children's Village opens the first market for toys and children's goods. In Austria, more than 320,000 children and teens are at risk of poverty. The SOS Ballon in Margareten intends to provide easy access to toys and children's goods by way of a social market. Free admission to the Freud Museum
A lot of rebuilding work was carried out, with Corona it was closed for 18 months. Now the Siegmund Freud Museum is finally open again, and even President Van der Bellen is coming to today's celebration. When he is gone, there will be free admission for everyone! The professor lived and worked at Vienna's probably most famous address for many years until he fled from the Nazis. In the new museum all private rooms are accessible for the first time and the exhibition space has almost doubled. Anyone who wants to enter the surgery still rings the doorbell just like his patients did over 100 years ago.

A discovery! Born in 1900, Eilfriede Berbalk started her career as an apprentice at the Wiener Werkstätten in 1920. Afterwards she was head of the metal department at the Hetzendorf Fashion School for many years and worked actively until the 1970s. From today on, the Goldsmith Museum is dedicated to the creative artist and her work. You have to register (Corona) for the vernissage, but not for a normal museum visit.

50 days of exercise
To do something good for your health, just 150 minutes of exercise per week are enough. And to achieve this, the “50 Days of Exercise” campaign with many free courses is currently underway throughout Vienna. For those who want to do something a little bit artistic today, go to the gymnastics centre “La Ville” and let off steam on the apparatuses balance beams and uneven bars. Full-body interval training in the gymnasium of the Augartenschule is an intensive experience: cardiovascular and strengthening intervals alternate, steps, dumbbells, thera-bands and balls are used. All courses with registration only!

The shop owner Miriam Cervantes has more than a hundred plants at her home! With her designer husband and a good instinct for trends, she has therefore opened the first Viennese concept store for plants last weekend. Right at the door you are greeted by a pretty Ficus Lyrata, inside you will find monsteras, mini cacti (from 2.90 euros) and wildly patterned plants, which are not entirely cheap because of their special looks, though. Pastel terracotta pots, books about nature, man and mindfulness and really good coffee are also available here. Welcome to the Jungle!

Schubert
This is probably one of the last neighbourhoods of Vienna where you can still feel what “old Vienna” must have been like. Sitting on the Mölkerbastei is like travelling back in time somewhere between the Middle Ages and the 17th century. Sitting on the Mölkerbastei and eating at Schubert is very 2020 – in splendid old surroundings with a romantic garden. The new chef Sascha Hoffmann loves vegetables, cooks creatively and loves to play with classics of Viennese cuisine. Suddenly even roast pork no longer tastes hearty. Unbelievably: Hoffmann has made the beautiful dishes himself!
