Vienna Rays of Hope
Brightens dark times and keeps body and mind moving: Artist Victoria Coeln's installation Vienna Rays of Hope combines human rights with art in ten of the city's squares, parks and streets. As soon as dusk falls, the lights come on: rainbow colours, white lights and even graphics of artistic fantasy animals – like Deborah Sengl's zebra tigress – shine every night. For the walk in the shape of a schnitzel (or in the shape of Austria ;-) you can use the ready-made online plan on Google Maps with pictures and interesting informations on all the places.
Wiener Lichtblicke. Various districts. Until 21 March. Daily after sunset. Free. Web

Hans Moser
The epitome of the grumpy, yet amiable Viennese: Weltschmerz comedian Hans Moser earned this status and the title of “actor of the people” through roles as servant, valet and coachman in 140 films. Today, Moser can be seen in “Die Fahrt in die Jugend” via a free stream from the Filmarchiv Austria. The 1935 operetta and comedy of mistaken identity revolves around a merry band of women and a poorly aged landowner. After he gets rejected by one of the beauties, he wants to get “rejuvenated.” It’s in black and white and will crack you up.

Lockdown Burger from Tian Bistro
Is the new iPhone free here or what? No, but it's still a hype: Tian Bistro, an offshoot of the vegetarian toque restaurant, is currently grilling vegan themed burgers for pickup one day a week because of the lockdown – and they're already iconic in Vienna. Today they taste like BBQ. If you register quickly, you’ll land on the waiting list and have good chances to get one – time slots are assigned for pick-up. Note: If you're really hungry, rather order an extra portion of the rather small burgers. They're not exactly cheap, but they're dazzlingly delicious.

Game Night in first Digital Bar
It's unbelievable what kind of inventive spirit Corona sparks. Simple but ingenious is the idea of the creators of “Barnana Vienna”, the country's first purely digital bar. Admission is by password (announced at registration), then an avatar must be chosen. Because the bar presents itself in the look of old PC games! When meeting other players, a video chat opens up, and virtual bartenders are on hand to answer questions. Tonight's game night features games such as Categories, Pictionary and Poker. Fully retro are also the slot machines with Super Mario and Space Invaders.

Das Boothaus Pop Up
CitySpotterGirl has been walking at least five kilometres every day since October. Highly recommended against Corona blues! And interestingly enough, it works even when you are under a lot of stress at work. If you also get something nice to snack on while inhaling fresh air, it's almost like a holiday ;-) Best tip: head out to the Old Danube and dash to the take-away from Bootshaus. The Querfeld team provides fresh-air fanatics with coffee-to-go, cakes, bread from Öfferl and delicious Buchteln with vanilla sauce in a cup. Then go find a nice bench somewhere and dig in!

Dala Lama live
Last week, thousands of people around the world watched the Dalai Lama talk to Greta Thunberg and scientists about the climate crisis on their computers. Today, you can see “His Holiness” live again from his residence in Dharamsala: This time he talks about one of his favourite topics, happiness. Together with Arthur Brooks, professor at the Harvard School of Business, he discusses “Leadership and Happiness”. Due to Corona, the whole thing takes place on two continents as a live webcast – convenient, meaning we can all watch for free. There’s even a German translation.

Afterwork Cooking
Whether you are working from home or on the way home from the office in the evening: at some point the stomach rumbles with hunger and the eternal question arises – what to cook? Sangita Nebel's virtual course puts an end to the clueless staring-into-the-fridge. The cook combines quick recipes with the flavours and spices from her home country, India. She prepares fast soul food such as vegetable rice with curry, a light couscous salad with lemon and turkey steak with garlic and rosemary. If you miss a step: just ask, Nebel has no problem filming right into the pot ;-)

Alice in Wonderland
Holy moly, this has some quick pace and lots of colour! Christopher Wheeldon knows how to tell a fairy tale. His rousing ballet of Alice in Wonderland was a stage hit and is still available to stream for a short time at London's Royal Opera House. The set design is spectacular, you really think you've fallen down the rabbit hole. In croquet scenes with pink flamingos, a perky Alice confronts the hysterical Queen of Hearts, and there are even parodies of Sleeping Beauty to be discovered. An enchantingly danced piece that nevertheless remains bizarre and mysterious – just like the story itself.

Endometriosis
Endometriosis is often referred to as a woman's fate and is still a mysterious disease. More than 300,000 women in Austria suffer from it, half of them in pain, and yet the disease is largely unknown. Endometriosis can cause cysts and adhesions as well as massive pain during menstruation. What are the typical symptoms? And what is the best way to treat the disease? This evening, gynaecologist Dr. Albert Knauder, chief physician at the Neunkirchen Landesklinikum, will explain the symptoms and consequences of this chronic disease.

Sigmun
Two guys who have played together in numerous bands for five years are now doing their own thing: the duo Florian Sighartner and Carles Munoz Camarero are “Sigmun”. They can be heard for the very first time today via livestream at Sargfabrik! For the virtual release concert, they will be playing their debut album “Hopeful Tears”, which was released at the same time, and their teaser song will give you a foretaste. Violin, cello and vocals with the voices of both start softly, but then build up. The pieces sometimes sound fragile, other times dramatic and excitingly experimental.

Jumi
Under a silver disco ball, the finest Swiss raw-milk cheese is stored in a huge milk vat and in quaint wooden refrigerators. This is the specialty of the hip Jumi shop, where they make their own unusual creations in their own cheese dairies: The spherical “Belper Knolle”, a matured fresh cheese, is grated over pasta and scrambled eggs like truffles. Almost like a pet, the stinker “Blaues Hirni” lives in the fridge, covered with blue and white mould on the outside – and the 16 different raclette varieties will melt your foodie heart. Many colourful variations, all of which can be tasted!

SoFàre
This takes guts: 5 days before Christmas – and the current lockdown – Elisa and Marco opened their bistro in the second district. Basically with the motto “We save the world with pasta”. It’s important to them to know exactly where their food comes from – and since they only cook with organic ingredients, the veggies come from the organic farm Adamah, the meat from Marchfeld and the organic flour for the pasta from Sicily. Every day, 6 types of pasta and various sauces are made fresh. You can either pick up your ready-made combi as a take-away or finish it at home. Neat!
