It's nice when, in the constant reinvention-shopping-madness, something stays in your mind a little longer than just one season for once. Keyword “sustainability” and all that ;-) Music producer and vintage shop owner Welia thought so, too, and is currently initiating a likably timeless pop-up exhibition in the first district with the motto “Textile Memory”. Until 19 August, you can buy finely curated fashion, jewellery and art with memory potential! On the one hand, the smart things come from her own shop “Enjoyment per Dollar”, where fans of timeless elegance will be happy with exclusive archive fashion pieces by Chloé, Courrèges, Prada and Miu Miu. On the other hand, a bevy of like-minded nostalgia labels: Filodove and Kempfin provide retro chic with handmade knitwear, Holy Garbage with eye-catching pieces from the years 1970 to 2000. At CitySpotterGirl’s office, the handmade hats by Biester are very popular – with the constant summer sun, you can't do without a hat at all anymore ;-)

On the New
What is happening in the local art scenes, studios and alternative art spaces? Namely right now? Belvedere21 is hosting three exhibitions in a row, with new Viennese, Linz and Salzburg productions moving into the museum. The show asks about the effects of the past pandemic and the ongoing political, ecological and social crises on artistic activity. Thus, 45 contemporary artists' projects can be admired one after the other – at the moment, for example, the works of Brishty Alam (photo), Diana Barbosa Gil and Sarah Bechter.

It's quite possible that one or two insights will creep in between the observations of nature, inspiring idleness and trains of thought. Grandees like Adolf Loos and Josef Frank were also keen to work with her; her rational analytical and design skills were legendary! Today it's a 3-hour tour of Hietzing with guide Felicitas Konecny. Highlight: the Werkbund estate, which heralded modern Viennese living in 1932!

This year's programme of the Vienna Cabaret Festival delivers the perfect level of humour, intelligence and temperature. It's pleasantly cool in the arcade courtyard at the Rathaus, the list of performers a nice mix of big names and no-names. And humour-wise, there is something for every taste. Today it starts with Viktor Gernot and his hit “Schiefliegen”, tomorrow Gernot Kulis follows with his “Best of 20 Jahre Ö3-Callboy”. On 26 July, the lively Kernölamazonen invite you to “LiederLiebesReisen”. And – an absolute hit – on 29 July “Ina Regen & Band” will perform. Five days of humour!

Simple
The only thing “simple” about this cool ImPulsTanz performance is the fact that there are only 3 dancers on stage. But they sure pack a punch! Rocking, shocking and enlivening the audience and stage in gaudy paradise outfits, they hold up a mirror to society in a dancing way. Yes, humanity takes itself too seriously. Yes, pretentious, calculating behaviour is as widespread as it is out of place. Yes, the world is often enough a cage full of fools. All this is artfully conveyed here. By choreography mastermind Ayelen Parolin from Belgium. She lets the 3 boys do the dancing, though :-)

Ceramic Art Space at “Retti”
T’was a long time ago. Star architect Hans Hollein designed a candle shop on Vienna's Kohlmarkt in 1964/65. Very innovative, with lots of aerospace material. The client was candle manufacturer Marius Retti, which is why the address entered the Viennese vernacular as “Retti”. The listed location stood empty for a long time, but now a pop-up gallery has moved in. You can see (mainly) female ceramic art from Austria. For example, the object series “The Urban Treasure Collection” by Doris Dittrich. Or Bodylanguage exhibits by Alice Kammerlander. Worth seeing!

It’s all about hopping and sweating in Afro-Caribbean hip-hop cathak style. Sounds exotic, and it is! Kristina Alleyne and Bryan Doisy from London demonstrate how it's done. The rest can simply imitate them. Procrastination and embarrassment are forbidden. Bringing a small towel and a bottle of water shouldn't hurt in view of the high temperatures. It's been a long time since Marina Zettl and her three band boys celebrated their first release party at the Theater am Spittelberg.
