"Heya Girls!"
In case there is someone who doesn’t know yet: the most rapidly growing ethnic group in Vienna is – the cats. More than 250 000 of them live in our city already. And since they have also already taken over the reigns on the Internet, it will be just a matter of time until they do the same in Vienna ;-) So, in case there are non-cat lovers among our valued readers: you can now stop reading this and skip to the rest of the newsletter. Everybody else can be happy: your CitySpotterGirl who herself has been living under the reigns of two cuddly divas for years, has published the very first cat-guide of Vienna this week! Practical, colorful and compact, the book gives you 150 great tips for cat owners in Vienna. It includes chosen veterinarians just as much as shops, cat whisperers and cat-sitters. Also part of it are interviews, emergency numbers and fun insiders’ tips like cat yoga. At the Web-portal you can sample read and also order it! Because as we all know: a life without cats is possible but futile!

Wishing you a cuddly week

Your Vienna Rich + Beautiful
In the middle of September the CitySpotterGirl called on all of you to participate in the Instagram project of Birgit Wagner. The mission was to photographically document how rich and beautiful Vienna is. Which, of course, does not only refer to the materialistic value but also to the inspiration and the immaterial wealth of our favorite city. And now, two months and almost a thousand postings later one thing is certain: Vienna IS rich and beautiful! From today on you can see a Best-Of of all the favorite spots and snapshots at a pop up vernissage. By the way, you can buy copies in exchange for a donation.

Tasting & reading “Gemischter Satz”
A small and fine wine and literature combination: author Daniela Emminger also writes for the CitySpotterGirl once in a while. But not in the last few months, because she has been writing her newest book “Gemischter Satz”. And was promptly nominated for the Austrian Book Award for this matured piece of literature revolving around a love accident! She is hosting tonight’s reading in cooperation with winemaker Franz-Michael Mayer whose “Wiener Gemischter Satz” grows on the Nussberg and who will further enrich the literary delicacies of the evening.

 Aslan Tamer
„Hope“-wish bracelets
A beautiful, shamanic ritual from Anatolia and the Middle East: there, many people tie white ribbons to certain trees that are considered to be sacred. They firmly believe that in that way their wishes will fly to the universe. The Turkish artist Tamer Aslan is now bringing this ancient “Make-A-Wish” Tradition to Vienna through his project “Hope”. But instead of tree branches, wrists are adorned with ribbons made of conductive fabric in order to glow with built-in LED lights. These wish bracelets can be designed today together in a workshop. Very nice!

Bollywood flea market
So, the CitySpotterGirl is into Bollywood films! Everything is so colorful and lively, a little bit dramatic, (almost) always the same yummy leading actor (Shah Rukh Khan – supposedly richer than Tom Cruise!), passionate dancing instead of boring kissing and an exuberant happy end. Today in Vienna you can distract yourself from your November-weather depression with a big dose of Bollywood flair: the Tumbao Dance-Studio is hosting a clothing flea market which includes pieces from the colorful clothing pool of the dancing group. There will also be a dance workshop, tryout massages and of course a Bollywood performance!

This new gallery at the artist’s proper home sounds likes an insiders’ tip! Artist Bettina Greslehner is hosting the “Cozy Art Days” at her new home-gallery in Döbling. Exhibited on the third floor are exclusively her own pieces, which are a colorfully eclectic mix of photographs, collages, comics, wooden sculptures and object installations. The opening will be celebrated this Saturday with a mini-concert of her own daughter; the doors will be open starting this morning. Women’s flea market & Finnish bazaar
There are as many flea markets in Vienna as fish in the sea. But this one really is something else: women are selling things exclusively to women- ranging from skirts to blouses to hardly ever worn ball gowns, sunglasses or belts. Also, the mega market with more than 200 stands will be held in a heated hall and there will be changing rooms and mirrors available. So, it will be very comfortable flea market-shopping! By the way, nice shopping can also be done at the Finnish Christmas bazaar in Klosterneuburg today, where you can find fine Scandinavian designer pieces, books, music and delicacies.

Hate-postings matinee
Online postings are often outrageously appalling – and not only orthographically. Every day thousands of hateful commentaries are made, false reports and conspiracy theories are shared without a second thought and people are threatened with murder. At today’s matinee the genius doll magicians Nikolaus Habjan and Manuela Linshalm are lending the hate posters faces and voices through their puppets. Together with the quirky musical humorists “Christoph und Lollo” they are presenting a selection of the most awful and gruesome (Austrian) postings. Unfortunately, they will cause your laughter to get stuck in your throat.

Vienna’s highest Christmas Market at the Ritz
So close to the sky: at the rooftop terrace of the Ritz Carlton the highest Christmas Market of the city has opened its stands this week. In accordance with the upscale atmosphere of the luxury hotel on the Ring the wooden shacks at the Rooftop Bar high above the city are not only offering fine delicacies, warming Punsch and aromatic mulled wine, but also noble champagne. A wonderful spot to raise your glasses to a hopefully relaxed pre-Christmas season, with a view of the sparkling city! And who knows, maybe the tourist masses don’t know about this one yet ;-)

The Lumineers
The kind of ragged and scruffy looking Americana trio “The Lumineers” practically came out of nowhere in 2012 and conquered the world with an irresistible hymn called “Ho Hey”. Following that they had more hits and in July of this year the second album “Cleopatra” of the trio folk-rock band from Colorado came out. Tonight the likeable group, consisting of songwriter Wesley Schultz, drummer and pianist Jeremiah Fraites and cellist and background-singer Neyla Pekarek will be filling the FM4 Indiekiste at the Gasometer with the sounds of their new songs. Orange Wine Festival
Since the CitySpotter Girl has recently discovered her new favorite wine and it’s an orange wine, the Orange Wine Festival is basically a mandatory event. Because next to red, white and rosé this 4th color is conquering Vienna. This wine-making process has been around for 5 000 years – the orange wines are produced as white wines like red wines. Which means the color of the wine comes from the fermentation process: juice, peel and seeds are fermented together. Today 65 winemakers will present more than 200 orange wines from Austria, Slovenia, Germany and Italy: all of them genuinely organic, earthy and additive-free.

Alma’s Kitchen
As is well known Alma Mahler-Werfel did not only use her kitchen skills to seduce men ;-) It’s still interesting what she used to serve at her dazzling salons back in the days. Her private cookbook gives an insight: ranging from stuffed peppers and ham croquettes to Gugelhupf, it includes anything that the Old-Viennese cooking has to offer, refined with Alma’s special touch. Even Alban Berg’s “Favorite dish” and Walter Gropius’ “Favorite pastry” are in it. Claudia Nemec has summarized the 60 best dishes for her Alma-cookbook and tonight selected samples will be served.

Rheumatism Day
What used to be an illness of old people has turned into a painful problem for all ages in the last few years. Rheumatism: that means 400 different conditions ranging from arthritis to osteoporosis to Morbus Bechterew – and there are 500 000 people affected just in Vienna! And we hear it more and more: young, active, fit – rheumatism patient. But despite the rapid rise of patients there is still an alarming lack of information around the illness – every other person affected by rheumatism has never been to the doctor. Today’s Rheumatism Day at the City Hall wants to get rid of this lack and provide information on diagnosis, therapy and cure.

Sand painting Show
In Vienna for the first time and seriously worth seeing! The art of sand painting is extraordinary because of the texture of the material and because the motives are merging together and creating fascinating “sand animations”. The sand painting artist’s fingers are dancing to the sound of music above a glass surface, which is lit from below and covered in sand. The images that are created and then rapidly wiped away and changed are being filmed and projected live onto a screen. Today such a sand show can be seen for the first time in Vienna, with Viennese scenes ranging from Sisi to Falco to the Opera Ball.

Joan As A Police Woman
Back in the days the US-star with the great voice was considered to be a little bit mopey because of her broody solo-program. But now her songs are charming and infectious. Joan As A Police Woman has worked with many stars like Lou Reed or Elton John and is also a trained violinist. By the way, the singer from New York got the band name from the TV series “Police Woman”, because her friends said she looked like main character Angie Dickinson. Paco
Apart from the fact that I always eat too much of them, I love tapas. Many small courses, cold or warm are served at once, placed in the middle of the table and you can steal wonderfully from your neighbor. Only reading the Spanish menu at the new Paco is a little difficult when lacking the necessary language skills, but the nice service was of great help. And then it was a joyful feast: mini squids (chipirones), chicken legs in lemon, ham croquettes, tortilla, some kind of potato-“bombas” – the tapas really do taste delicious here and they help immensely to get rid of the autumn blues. Very nice!
