"Heya Girls!"
Don’t worry, I haven’t confused the seasons by planting a garden-related topic at this prominent place of your favourite newsletter. But this is about saving the most amazing event-garden project of the city! Because the lease contract of City Farm, which has been flourishing for five years in Schönbrunn, will be terminated by autumn 2018. This would constitute its end: no more “patch visiting”-workshops, no marvelling at veggie rarities and no more berry-ful tasting walks. But – and here’s the good news! – the operators were offered a 4,000sm area of land at Augarten. To move City Farm there safe and sound, a fundraising campaign was started, which promises a good harvest. Yet they are still a couple of thousand euros short on the required amount of 100,000 € to afford redevelopment measures. Piece of cake for us to take care of this together! Green thumbs up, donating is possible here.

Wishing you a fruitful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Blue Bird Festival + Chrysta Bell
It’s almost a fixed star on CitySpotterGirl’s musical calendar heaven: the dynamite Blue Bird Festival at Porgy & Bess. Like every year, the most talented singer-songwriters of the planet gather to show off their skills. Apart from Russian, Swedish, and Grazer sounds in today’s quadripartite roundel, you should definitely listen to the dream pop songs of brilliant US-diva and David Lynch’s muse Chrysta Bell. Who, for a change, shines not as FBI agent in the current Twin Peaks season, but – live! – with such an incredible voice.

 Linda Berger
Linda Berger
Technically, you have to „look” at the XXL paintings of Applied Arts graduate Linda Berger with your ears. Because what’s happening on these canvases colour- and print-wise flickers and swooshes somehow and equals a medium big bang. Her new series “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me”, does indeed include music references. Like to the identical lyrics of Bob Russel or the growling technique of Cootie Williams, which creates musical interferences. You’ll get it when standing in front of the Berger’s galaxies! Vernissage is today!

Fred Astaire Tribute: Puttin’ On The Ritz
Dress up, order a cocktail and dive into the nostalgic dance- and music world of Fred Astaire (who has Austrian roots, by the way) at today’s after-work-special at the Sofiensäle. For the 30th anniversary of the legendary singer and dancer’s death, Fred Astaire Dance Studio is releasing a new tribute CD – which is being presented today! On it: Cheek to Cheek, Something’s Gotta Give and many others of his hits, that have been reinterpreted electro- and swing-style. For instance, Austro-pipes Stella Jones will volunteer a groovy live-serenade. It could get late ;)

City Tour with Gourmet Carriage
We Viennese usually leave the horse carriages to the photo-obsessed Japanese. But this luxury version of a city tour is highly enticing to Viennese princesses as well: For 40 minutes, you’re being chauffeured through the inner city glittering with Christmas lights in a glazed gourmet horse-carriage, and your personal butler is on board too. Because he will provide you with delicacies from the restaurant “Zum Schwarzen Kameel”, from orange punch to mini-sandwiches and the finest cookies. Not exactly cheap, but you’ll finally get to be Cinderella ;-)

Start: Zum Schwarzen Kameel,  Bognergasse 5, 1010 Vienna. Until 23 Dec., 320 €/carriage. Web

And of course he’ll bring his current collection for women to try on and buy. Including cool oversize pullovers, glitzy jackets and brash print- and square knit dresses. Bridal Sample Sale at elfenkleid
Why not admit it: CitySpotterGirl recently grabbed a bar of chocolate and, in a streak of heart-melancholy, watched the 90s chick flick “Runaway Bride”. An occasional necessity. If you do actually plan on walking down the aisle and whispering a gracious “yes” soon, you absolutely have to take a trip to elfenkleid today or tomorrow. There’s a Bridal Sample Sale happening, meaning exceptional price situation! Due to little flaws and signs of usage, dreamy sample-wedding dresses (and evening gowns) from previous collections are up to -70% off!

Opening Beethoven Museum
What Mozart (and his marzipan balls) is to Salzburg, Beethoven is to Vienna: a piece of Austrian music history! Overall, the exceptional musician lived in as many as three apartments during his years in Vienna. The one in Heiligenstadt has now been converted into a major Beethoven museum. The opening is being celebrated for two days with virtuoso concert plonking (for instance by scholarship holders of the Viennese Beethoven Society) and with guided tours! Intimate insights into his life, work, suffering – and even into his private garden – are guaranteed. Free!

Kirghiz Days at FilzOase
There are many reasons to travel to faraway Kyrgyzstan (something author and CitySpotterGirl editor Daniela Emminger knows at first hand ;-) Like dreamy pristine landscapes, traditional nomad life and beautiful felt crafts. The latter can be explored at a selling exhibition at FilzOase – in all its colourful glory and variety of form. There’s Kirghiz felt slippers, embroidered dresses, seat cushions adorned with ornaments and tapestries. But luckily they serve punch instead of the national drink Kumys (fermented fare’s milk, yikes)! Until today!

That’s cause for celebration! The best of the best of Austrian cabaret clowns have come together to support asylum seekers in need. Marlene Streeruwitz: seduction
At Wien Modern, everything is always different from the norm (in a positive sense!). Today’s reading-concert-seduction by author Marlene Streeruwitz and composer Katharina Klement is no exception. One provokes with new “first thoughts” and “litanei”-texts in Lyrical staccato-style, the other provides electro-acoustic siren music specifically composed for the text. Fortunately, corny Don-Juan-love is not their cup of tea. The seduction, temptation and fascination are purely of emancipatory nature. Another highlight: the live-discussion afterwards at Café Heumarkt.

Renee Schroeder
Fascinating, what a brilliant scientist makes of the current political chaos! According to Renee Schroeders, the political culture lacks one thing in particular: order in the heads. That order has become a personal, philosophical project for the prize-winning microbiologist, biochemist and bestseller-author. In today’s talk with Philipp Blom, the scientist assesses how it’s possible to tell apart fact from fiction these days, how rational politics can be and how issues can be communicated in political debates at all. There is also a livestream!

Werbung Liebe Zuckerwatte
Vienna premiere! The freshly baked winner of the Osnabrücker prize for drama, Mario Wurmitzer, has now adapted his slightly shop-worn Zuckerwatte-text for the stage. The result is a genius-absurd film-theatre spectacle about the events of a (fictional) terror-night at Vienna Prater. Part of the story was filmed on location and is being shown on a big screen as a film; the rest is acted out mercilessly sort of like in retrospect on stage by Marie, Franz & Co. At the showdown, it gets political, populist and perverse. Basically, a true modern folk play ;-)

Vienna is different! That’s why there’s been green light for same-sex couple in the traffic lights at several crossroads since Conchita’s Song Contest triumph. They have become so popular that creative designers Michi Bratl und Peter Rubik have started marketing the hetero & homo couples-symbols as merchandising. The traffic lights-motives are on stylish shirts and gym bags (top-sellers!), also on towels, mouse-pads and jewellery. Unfortunately, Gastro-couple Sibel und Christian had to leave behind their two donkeys in Southern Turkey but in exchange, they have brought with them lots of spices and recipes for good traditional fare. Since October, they have been put to good use in their new small bistro Sibel’s at Burgmanngasse. The open kitchen is situated in the midst of colourful bistro tables and orient lamps and they prepare fresh meals every day.
