"Heya Girls!"
Ready for the island? Sure, for this weekend, it will turn into a party area again! The Donauinselfest celebrates what feels like its 100th birthday this year and as always, there will be three days of free concerts, exuberant summer-mood, and many, many people. They want to see Revolverheld, Mando Diao, Christl Stürmer, Yasmo, or any other star rocking one of the fifteen stages. I will throw myself into the crowd for the German-Spanish cutie on the photo: Alvaro Soler doesn’t just look amazing, he also sings amazingly. (May I please marry him?) Plus, they are putting up a very special tent again. Behind the main stage by the Floridsdorfer bridge, you will find a pop-up creativity market, where close to twenty Austrian designers offer their creations far from the mainstream: fashion and ceramics, jewellery and accessories. The Viennese Guy will show his gym bag, Jutta Gürth prettifies women with delicate flower wreaths and Sofi prints light organic clothing. Summer, yeah!

Blockparty Schottenfeld
New life is being breathed into Schottenfeldgasse today. Between Burggasse and Neustiftgasse, they are celebrating on the holiday – which means: dancing, cycling, trying Taekwondo, doing handicrafts, listening to vinyl, barbecuing, enjoying drinks, getting your hair cut and styled, tasting ice-cream, drinking coffee and partying. The food is provided by culinary-hotspots like Parfümerie, Espresso Burggasse and the brand-new Seven North (yummy!), 5/8erl in Ehr'n will play a live concert. And on the vinyl-market, you can bag hundreds of LPs and CDs from 5 euros.

Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn
Another year gone by already and we’re off to the Schönbrunn Summer Night, equipped with blanket and wine! With this year’s motto “Rhapsody in Blue”, the Vienna Philharmonics dedicate themselves to pieces relating to America. Gustavo Dudamel conducts a second time after 2012, piano-star Yuja Wang celebrates her debut, being known not only for her brilliant playing but also for her tight, shrill outfits. Now if only the weather gods play along, Bernstein, Gershwin and Max Steiner’s Casablanca suite can be heard under a starry sky.

Free Film Festival at Wasserturm
It’s high summer cinema time! In the urban-comfy setting of the brick building-inner courtyard at the Wasserturm by Nordbahnhalle, feature films will flicker across the screen again on four nights, for free and open-air. In case of bad weather (knock on wood) the cinema will simply move to the adjacent Nordbahnhalle. Today, it starts off with the German political drama “Wackersdorf”, as closing film on Sunday they will show the brilliant culture-clash comedy “Womit haben wir das verdient?” with Caroline Peters. And since you can’t have cinema without snacks, they provide food and drinks there.

„Caution, slip hazard” will be the motto at St. Ulrichsplatz for Ulrich & Erich host a big 2-day sliding party. How to interpret this? Literally, of course, because the operators of the two hip venues turn the way from Burggasse to St. Ulrichsplatz into a huge water slide that is impressive 75 meters long. On Friday and Saturday, you can slide for free! Plus, party-animals may look forward to a big style-competition, a flamingo bar, ice-cream by Veganista, a raffle and a DJ line-up.

Theatrical singing, plus Blade Runner inspired synthesizer-work plus string players: life’s jumble brilliantly packed in notes.

Escargots, Champagne and Wine
Snails aren’t usually connected with romance but they are tonight at Laaerberg. The Viennese snail breeder Gugumuck, who’s known all over town, hosts a gourmet-dinner with wine and champagne accompaniment at a long, white table next to the vineyards of the winery Wieselthaler. The 7-course-menu will be accompanied by the sunset. Aside from the feast for the belly, there’s also a feast for the eyes: the wine estate offers a view from the Viennese skyline all the way to the Leitha mountains. So pretty! By the way: it’s recommended to wear sturdy shoes instead of high heels.

Cooking at Hermanngasse
One street, ten hobby cooking teams, two dishes made with the same ingredients and a big lay jury – that’s the concept of the big cooking competition in the 7th district. Hungry walk-in customers get a tasting pass plus Berndorf-cutlery and napkin and can then taste themselves through the creations of the competitors all around Hermanngasse and judge them. The most diverse groups are participating there – from Casa Caria or the team from Audiamo to SPÖ Neubau and private neighbourhood residents. Let’s see who will win this time!

Dance Alchemy & Lunch
If you prefer letting your hair down and dancing to your heart’s content off script and without weird glances, you will be just right at the Dance Alchemy. There, they practise freestyle interpretive dance (yes, letting go has to be learnt, too) before you get to the open dance floor with music from all over the world. Choreographer Goran Bogdanovski demonstrates in his workshop how dancing can be at the same time relaxing and energising for the body. Afterwards, everybody is spoiled culinary-wise at a tasteful, collective lunch.

The free accompanying programme tempts you with entertainment, information, DIY, and even open-air cinema in the evening! Always inspired by Jimi Hendrix and Chuck Berry. Lovingly called “my nephews” by Snoop Dogg and now with 3 Grammys, Snarky Puppy have become THE band for fusion/jazz-rock by now. Today, the musical combo from Brooklyn around bassist and composer Michael League opens the Jazz Fest at the Globe Wien. The ensemble consists of 40 members who perform in constantly changing constellations. Snarky Puppy are the living proof that it’s not necessarily true that too many cooks spoil the broth ;-) Tonight, they play their new album “Immigrance”. A true balm in times of sterile hit parade ready-made music!

You may expect quite a lot, in any case: philosophical, entertaining, bilateral and quirky content. Only one thing is for certain: the sore laugh muscles on the next day from laughing too much.

Angewandte Festival
The yearly dividend pay-out of the University of Applied Arts is on the agenda from today – in the form of the most important works that have been created during the current academic year. And since new rooms have been introduced, they have decided to make it a festival of several days. Both university buildings at the Wien Fluss and the Kokoschka square, which is closed for traffic, will be the scene of interventions, exhibitions, performance art, concerts, screenings and parties. So: interesting things to see and cool atmosphere with a high hip scene relevance.

Farewell, taboo, it’s the time of the vulva – it even has its own festival dedicated to it from 25 June. Shame, ignorance and prejudices are uncalled for here: the festival with its motto “Ein unverschämter Blick” artfully and lovingly honours womanhood and sexuality. The dense programme offers art, performance, workshops, insightful meetings, food art and heaps of feminine energy. At the join-in-table, you can create colourful vulvas and there is a sex expert answering questions in a discreet setting. Musical-wise, you are taken on a “clitoral sound journey.”

FEMALE: lives and works in Vienna
They are young, at the beginning of their career as artists and the centre of their life and work is in Vienna. That is what the thirteen artists, whose works are being shown today at Galerie Rudolf Leeb, have in common. Among others, Kaja Clara Joo, for example, proves her young yet still professional expertise with her oversized sculpture “Klagefuss”, which consists of 12,000 (!) left latex fingers. For her works, photographer Lilya Corneli has taken famous oil paintings from Picasso to Schiele as an example, recreating them with real people. Cool!

Virginia Woolf in her own words
The fact that CitySpotterGirl is a big Virginia Woolf fan simply has to be mentioned here for once. So it’s no surprise that she’s really looking forward to Petra Gstrein turning into the legendary author in her production “Zwischen Bäumen und Flüssen”. And if Jacqueline Kornmüller, who also brings to life the Kunsthistorisches Museum in the performance series “Ganymed”, is involved as well, it can only turn out to be great. And the setting this time? It’s the beautiful library of Österreichischer Buchhandel.

Evelyn Haddad creates delicate and feminine hand-made pieces of jewellery in the finest and fanciest silver alloy. The mother-daughter duo Meijerhof focuses on summery plain-coloured stylish-elegant dresses and blouses with cheerful prints. They only produce a few pieces of every design! And the cool shop interior from Made.com is also up for sale!

It’s so pastel-coloured here! For a few years, the French graphic designer Chloé Thomas has been demonstrating at sous-bois how hip stationery can be. Now she has moved her cool shop exactly one business premise over and has opened a café in the “old” rooms. Since no costly ventilation was installed, the cuisine they offer here remains cold: they serve varieties of breakfast (all day long), sandwiches, cheese, and pies. And in what makes a nice mixture of French and Oriental cuisine. With French chansons as background music. Nice!
