"Heya Girls!"
Who has sampled the herb of immortality before? Or looked for healing herbs in the middle of the city? Right now, you could even find something in our small office garden: because there, all the sudden, celandine appeared. The alchemists of medieval times would have loved our courtyard paradise, since they used the herb with the golden-yellow blossoms in order to depict the prime matter. In the month of May, herbs are popping up all over the place, so it’s hardly surprising that the herb-events are in high season as well. During a guided tour at the Cityfarm Schönbrunn you cannot only discover many aromatic herbs, but also miracle herbs with proven medical effects – paracress, brahmi, mushroom plant and the afore mentioned herb of immortality. Mitchi Hörl organized a nice evening of herbalism about “wild herbs for women’s health”. And in the Seestadt, there is even a “Long Day of Viennese Wild Herbs”. It includes a plant-swap meet, an herb buffet and guided tours led by the Viennese Herb Academy. Their motto is: Good herbs in the city!

Wishing you a green week

Performeum – Big Opening
During the “Festwochen” every year the whole city is basically on fire, but this year even more so! And there is a new location, which will be opened with lots of glam and glitter today. The Performeum is located at a former factory site in the 10th district and it’s the secret centerpiece of the festival. The “temple of the moment” will be inaugurated today with the queer-ecstatic performance “House of Realness” featuring New York glamor star Justin Vivian Bond. From 18:00 on you can also relax beneath the cupulas of the installation “Hamamness” and get pampered by Hamam-staff, which is also a nice idea ;-)

Meidling Riviera Show
This is a well-known fact: a hat cannot only be the icing on an outfit-cake but also change your whole appearance. Suddenly, you move a little bit more elegantly, feel a little bit more like a lady and shoot others sassy looks from beneath the rim ;-) Today, Karin Bergmayer from the legendary hat salon in Meidling is presenting new pieces à la “summer cocktail hats with hand-sewn organza flowers”. Together with the opticians from Tivoligasse she is celebrating a funky-elegant Riviera hat & glasses show. The event will take place inside and in front of the shop, accompanied by Italian music. Grande!

 Salon Jardin
Salon Jardin
A magical place for a picnic that is usually not open to the public. A comfortable lawn chair that looks like a piece of art. A laid-back sampling of organic culinary delicacies, accompanied by exhilarant music, under the open spring sky – that’s what the Salon Jardin is all about! Usually, the beautiful park of Castle Hetzendorf is not available to the general public. But for Vienna’s garden salon it will be open for three days: on these days, 60 exhibiters will be presenting furniture, design, ceramics, plants, food and arts and crafts, and additionally there will be “green” lectures and workshops.

Vila Madalena
A good-mood concert in the center of the Karmelitermarkt and for free! The Viennese duo Vila Madalena will be performing cheery market-stroll-music, along the lines of the Brazilian artists’ quarter with the same name, with Balkan sounds, a touch of flamenco and a breeze of Yiddish music and jazz. And all of it without any technical support, just acoustic – which makes the whole event even nicer. But (attention!) it happens before noon! The concert series “Musikmarkt” is on tour around Vienna’s markets until the end of May with fine acoustic acts ranging from wild violins to fun reggae.

#werther
Forget about the old yellow Reclam-booklets, because you have never experienced the sufferings of young Werther like this before! At the Bronski & Grünberg (whoever hasn’t been there yet: it’s about time!) a hip version of Goethe’s classic piece can be seen – relocated into the era of social media and re-written from scratch for today’s generation. The best proof that Werther’s question of identity, happiness and an ideal interpersonal relationship is just as relevant today as it was 200 years ago! And it really is a joy to watch young actor Josef Ellers “suffer” ;-)

TCM-Basics fire-element – gluten free
The ideal cooking class for all of those who have a problem with the gluten that can be found in several kinds of cereal: all of the presented recipes are 100% gluten free! And they also fit the season: expert Nina Mandl explains how you can cool down your body with cooling food during rising temperatures. Because the currently active element “fire” can quickly become too much and that possibly leads to hyperthermia or mental and physical overstraining. But the other way around, you also (depending on your type!) shouldn’t eat too many cooling foods because that could result badly as well. Interesting!

Additionally, there will be interesting workshops where the expert sewing-queens will be sharing their knowledge and lectures where they will be giving advice. Doesn’t matter if it’s code-crafting (development of embroidery designs with Open Source!) or the fabrication of thread buttons: for 2 days hobby-tailors can learn how it’s done.

Porcia-theater vehicle
A different kind of theater! Because today, we are offered a little theater highlight: the rich in tradition ensemble Porcia from Carinthia is parking its theater vehicle (“Theaterwagen”) in Vienna for the first time. They will be performing at 3 locations – today in the middle of Mariahilfer Straße. Very nice when a ramp opens up magically and a funny ensemble wearing colorful costumes emerges and starts acting right then and there. They will be playing “Der Tenor” from Carl Sternheim, a very Carinthian story of singing. Next stop is Resselpark on May 25th and 26th!

Doesn’t matter if they are Latin-American step combinations accompanied by hot rhythms or deliberate gyration of the hips, it’s always fun. And beginners will be able to participate easily as well. “Reset – alles auf Anfang”
Real nice training for your laughing muscles – just as always when Michael Niavarani is behind something. In the amnesia-comedy “Reset –Alles auf Anfang” (Reset- Everything from the start”), written by the comedian himself, luggage is mixed up, paintings are replaced and people aren’t sure about their own identity anymore. The businessmen called Herbert who suffers from memory loss will make you laugh out loud. Wellness-singing in a salt cave
Yes, singing makes us happy and it makes our bodies vibrate – and that feels really good! Especially when the sounds and the location are as wholesome as they are at today’s event with singer and shiatsu-practitioner Thomas Bonneß. Because he is inviting to a mutual regeneration in a salt cave (“Salzgrotte”): there you can lie or sit in a field of deep relaxation, breath “healthy” air, listen to his mantras – or just join in singing yourself. In the cave, the temperature stays at 21 degrees constantly, so you should maybe bring a light sweater and socks, blankets are available there.

The Vienna Tafel is an institution: groceries are saved from being thrown out and given away for free to those in need. Everyone is invited to sit down at the long table and eat while listening to the sounds of the the “Strottern” or the orchestra “MusikarbeiterInnenkapelle”. And since the Wienissimo Festival is happening at the same time, there is also a white table where you can eat in exchange for a small donation. Doderer at the Palace of Justice
Wow, very unusual! 90 years after the fire at the Palace of Justice as it was described in Doderer’s most famous piece “The Demons”, a scenic reading is bringing the event from back then to live once again at the original location. After three Demons-episodes in the spring, the big finale of the 60-year-old piece of work is happening as actor Stefan Suske guides through several levels of the Palace of Justice and through the meandering paths of the final chapter of “The Demons”: it is July 15th of 1927and the Palace of Justice is burning. Whoever feels like the CitySpotterGirl and loves “real” cakes without a whole lot of frills, has found the right place! At the recently opened café of the enthusiastic baker Doris Shanker the recipes come directly from the pastry chef grandma of the owner.
