"Heya Girls!"
In 1908, the “Kunstschau” (art show) took place on the grounds of today's Eislaufverein on the occasion of Emperor Franz Josef's 60th anniversary on the throne. Organised by Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann and other greats, it is considered a groundbreaking event of Viennese modernism today. At that time Klimt presented his “Kiss” to the public for the first time, and 130 artists – including Kokoschka and Koloman Moser – showed art at the height of its time. This historic site will be all about art again this weekend. Shortly before the ice-skating season begins, a huge, heated tent will be erected on the ice rink. For four days, 35 Austrian galleries will be exhibiting at the “Art Austria Highlights” – contemporary, classic modernism, and much from Vienna around 1900. Paintings by Maria Lassnig and Klimt will be on display as well as photos by Robert Mapplethorpe. If you have too much money to spare right now, you can also buy the art, of course. And if you get hungry from looking, there's an art buffet next door at the Hotel Intercontinental. Only we don't have an emperor anymore ;-)

Wishing you a picture-rich week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Grischka Voss: Bulletproof Reloaded
Leather jacket, lust and love: the one-woman performance by Grischka Voss is about the cocky Amanda, who consumes sex like others consume coffee. She talks uninhibitedly and wittily about masturbation and role clichés and brazenly sweeps across the small stage in Drachengasse. She really is bulletproof, not even afraid of getting old, there is always someone older still, after all ;-) But isn't it becoming increasingly clear that she is painfully searching for love for herself? Exciting woman makes exciting theatre!

Elli Bauer: tote bag comedy
The generation of the Millennials: They were born into the 90s and have a tote bag with the right slogan for every situation. Know no hardship, but have a dream catcher and a feel for everything. Young Elli Bauer from Graz questions that in “Stoffsackerlspruch” tonight – and gives insights into the life plans of her contemporaries: inherit a house, get a good job and a handsome husband, have exactly 2.1 children and do yoga at night. And everything but too much hair under your eyebrows, of course! It will be an evening with lots of self-irony, singing and physical exertion, challenging pigeonhole-thinking.

Flowmarket by Wyhnalek
What makes a “real” flea market? It only takes place once a year! It’s the only way to accumulate really great, unusual individual findings at real bargain prices. Georg Wyhnalek, owner of the eponymous home-pleasure institution outside the city gates, sees it that way and invites you to the legendary Flowmarket for one week. Vintage treasures from all over the world with a lot of charm and soul are up for grabs. For example: historic dolls, old doorknobs and clocks, street signs, travel trunks, Buddha heads, brass ornaments and much more. Wes Anderson's film outfitter would be jealous ;)

Tim Fischer
Actor and singer Tim Fischer is kind of the male counterpart to Hildegard Knef ;-) He also performs strong songs and ballads about love and life – sometimes in a soulful way, sometimes rather roughly. And subjects sentimentalities to the acid test. It’s quite possible that you will experience all the emotional spectrums at his concert, from melancholy to tenderness to silly over-excitement. Tonight, he and his band can be seen at the Akzent Theatre in Vienna! You can get a musical taster here. Real-time heart melting is guaranteed

Wine Hike: Down the Kahlenberg
Usually, the path leads uphill first before the laurels, or in this case fermented grapes, can be enjoyed. This wine hike, however, does it the other way round and conveniently starts right at the summit of the Kahlenberg today. From there we will walk together through the dark green of the Vienna Woods and out into the vineyards. We’ll stop for two glasses of wine (which are included) or more in one of the pop-up wine taverns, depending on which ones are open, and then continue to hike leisurely downhill. A pleasant walking tour with a view of Vienna, woods and wine.

Wynton Marsalis
CitySpotterGirl actually fell in love with the exceptional jazz virtuoso from New Orleans years ago. Or rather, with his musically supernatural performance, back then in the Votivkirche. That is why tonight's concert is an absolute must! Especially since Wynton Marsalis will be on stage with the world-famous “Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra” and will perform John Coltrane's “A Love Supreme”. Because the big band version of the cult album from 1964 gets under your skin in such a way that even those ladies who are not so jazz-savvy can't help but swing along. Mega!

Love you Goethe
Nomen est omen! What location for an antiquarian book market could be more stylish than the historic Palais Schey in Goethegasse at the Goethe monument? Built in 1863 for the Jewish aristocratic family Friedrich Schey von Koromla, the magnificent building miraculously survived the Nazis and World War II! In the 80s, the ORF series “Ringstraßenpalais” was even filmed here because it’s just so pretty. But today, pretty books are the stars at the book fair – from biographies and bibliophile stuff to art and photography books, they got it all. Even an artists' buffet!

Once the decision to separate has been made, a legal wrangle begins: about the maintenance and child support, property allocation and shared custody. An organisational challenge, which legal expert Barbara Stekl aims to facilitate a little bit with her lecture this evening. Tree and Soil
10 years have passed since the reactor disaster in Fukushima. In 2011, considerable amounts of radioactive material were released from the damaged nuclear power plant after a tsunami. Since then, the Dutch artist duo Antoinette de Jong & Robert Knoth have photographed and filmed the surrounding nature. The show “Tree and Soil” shows in impressive pictures the slow change of the vicinity over the years. Abandoned villages, fields and mountains illustrate life after the nuclear disaster, on display are photos, interviews and illustrations. Today’s the vernissage!

The Mystery of Dark Matter
A quarter of the universe consists of a substance that no one has ever seen: dark matter. It holds the universe together, so to speak, and ensures that stars don't just whiz around and galaxies fly apart. Why we can be sure that dark matter exists, although no one knows what it is made of, is shown in today’s show “Geheimnis Dunkle Materie” with exciting experiments. By the way, the Nobel Prize Committee explains it like this: a cup full of coffee (dark energy), a shot of milk (dark matter) and sugar (stars) – tada, you got the universe!

 Lois Weinberger
Lois Weinberger. Basics
Yes, one could check out the Lassnig to Knebl collection in the 21er Haus right now. But the cheerful and ingenious culture-nature cosmos of Lois Weinberger is baiting you right on the ground floor, and that is somehow more tempting :-) Because the visionary in all matters of artistic ecology manages to simply make people happy with his works. With him, nature takes command: Neon green sponges conquer the walls, a rubbish dump becomes a museum, stones can suddenly fly and seemingly worthless things meet ultimate poetry. For laughter and amazement!

Paul Plut
If you’ve not heard of local singer-songwriter Paul Plut yet, you should pay a visit to the WUK today. There, the musician, lyricist and composer, born in Ramsau am Dachstein in 1988, will perform songs from his brand-new album. It's called “Ramsau am Dachstein nach der Apokalypse” (Ramsau am Dachstein after the apocalypse), but don't worry, the title sounds much darker than the idyllic, melancholic home songs on it. Like “Lucken in der Landschaft”, for example, or “B320”. Even creaking church pews are called into action by Paul Plut. Really cool dialect gospel!

Ponykarussell
CitySpotterGirl learned something new at the weekend: the Pony carousel in the Prater is older than the Ferris Wheel, the dome building dates back to 1887. Today, there are no more ponies running in circles pointlessly, but the run-down place in the middle of Prater was recently turned into a stylish café. With a pink and gold cake counter, jungle wallpaper and Mexican tiles – an Insta-dream. And a good tip for breakfast fans: Thum ham, Eggs Benedict, Öfferl breads and great coffee are served daily until 14:00. At weekends it's crowded and noisy ;-)
