"Heya Girls!"
That was close! CitySpotterGirl’s daughter once again travelled the world for her new book – Paris, New York, Brittany, Lisbon, Brno, always on the trail of a young Viennese who saved hundreds of Jewish refugee children in the 1930s. And just as she was returning from her last research trip, Corona paralysed the world. So at least there was plenty of time to write. Next Wednesday, her biography of Ernst Papanek will be presented in an online book launch. Warmly recommended! And I'm not writing this as a proud mum (well, a little bit ;-), but because the life of the Viennese pedagogue and socialist reads like a captivating adventure novel. And because he established an impressive pedagogical system that was downright revolutionary for its time – and still is today. Unfortunately, all this has been forgotten. With “Auf Wiedersehen, Kinder!”, Lilly Maier takes us on a journey around the world – and into the inner world of a Viennese who even today shows us how to master any crisis.

Wishing you an exciting week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Window Swap
Window Swap
Nice outlooks! Works like a digital window to the wide world and soothes bad wanderlust: For “Window Swap”, people from all over the world photograph and film the view from their window and show you what they see. With Susan in Seattle you can marvel at the sunset, with Siarhei in Minsk you look at huge construction sites and with Srni you learn that even in Heyderabad, India, it can snow a hell of a lot. Followed by Mumbai, Moscow, Rome – so many places you can't get to at the moment. Looking through foreign windows becomes a trip around the world.

 Jeremias
Jeremias & Orchestra
That's what we need right now: music that lifts your spirits. The four guys from “Jeremias” manage to do just that with their easy-going melodic funk. The indie band (goodness, they are young) sounds more grown up than they look, a bit of disco-fever makes the whole thing nicely danceable. You can listen to them live tonight via Facebook stream of WDR – so it costs nothing. What’s special about the concert: their groovy pop is combined with the classical sounds of the Funkhaus Orchestra, which also plays musically powerful pieces from Game of Thrones and Johann Sebastian Bach in between. Cool mix!

Impulse Training for your love life
Admittedly, the editors of CitySpotterGirl are completely addicted to the new Netflix series “Bridgerton”: Romantic kitsch and long pining for each other from afar – so nice in the movies, but not so much in real dating life. So if you want to make dating work again after social distancing, you need the right tips from coach Susi Bartmann: her impulse training (via Zoom) shows mental techniques to get out of your comfort zone and attract love. This way, mental blockades are dissolved and goals and wishes for love are set. Then you'll soon get your own happy ending ;-)

Johannes Rass: Lumen
When darkness falls, the lights go on in the MuseumsQuartier. 125 floor lamps, to be precise. Artist Johannes Rass has planted a forest of lamps in the MQ Art Box in the main courtyard of the museum; he calls his light installation “Lumen”. A spectacle of light and sound transforms the box into a backdrop of constantly changing sounds and lighting moods. 18 randomly arranged sequences of about 10 minutes each span an arc around the theme of mixing, influenceability and dependence of living spaces. A beautiful glimmer of light to be seen daily from 16:00 to 22:00.

Introduction to the world of Ayurveda
Anyone who wants to balance body, mind and soul has certainly heard of Ayurveda before. But since every beginning is hard, the basic workshop “Introduction to the World of Ayurveda” starts from scratch. It offers an overview of the principles of the healing method, talks about bioenergies and how they can be used for relaxation and health. A personal test reveals which of the three dosha types you are. To ensure that the stress-free implementation also works in everyday life, a personal daily routine is developed for you, plus instructional documents and audio extras.

 Freywille
Sale at FreyWillie
Expressionist colourfulness inspired by Van Gogh, an homage to Friedensreich Hundertwasser or Egyptian patterns from the time of the pharaohs – the colourful, enamelled jewellery from FreyWille always stands out. So it's a good thing then that a lot of pieces are currently 40% off in the online sale: bracelets as well as pendants, rings or small and large creoles. And if you can't go to the elegant boutique on Stephansplatz, you can at least shop online. There's something about shopping in the middle of the night or on a Sunday ;-)

Photo Shooting at Luxury Hotel
The hotels are closed due to Corona, so you can use them for something unusual. For example, for a shooting in the exclusive Hotel Palais Kempinski: photographer Claudia Blake shoots two to three outfits for one hour at a time for beauty shots, social media pictures or job application photos, just as you wish. Several rooms are available, such as the lobby with its large glass roof and crystal chandeliers. In preparation, you discuss on the phone what suits the ambience and what you need the pictures for. As a result, you’ll have ten top-quality photos. Now pose!

Expiry date. When food becomes waste
To put it bluntly: an expiry date for products means “best before” and not “deadly from”. The Natural History Museum is currently dedicating a highly important exhibition to the global waste and destruction of food. Since you can't see it because of the lockdown, you can now go through the show via YouTube video. The unbelievable (one third of global food production ends up in the rubbish) is juxtaposed with the bizarre (80% of British children don’t know how to handle a frying pan). But above all, very concrete ways out of the vicious circle of waste are shown.

Cultural Swap
Was the literary gift under the Christmas tree not quite the right one after all? Or did you clear out your bookshelf during the holidays? Then take it to the “swap market” for fine literature and art catalogues in the MuseumsQuartier. There, the “eSeL Schauraum” has organised a mini-library on wheels. It works like this: a rolling bookcase is pushed into the corridor, you take what you like and leave what you want to part with. The selected assortment includes illustrated books on art in public space, photo catalogues of the Albertina and world literature à la Melville and Proust.

Shoes in the Wien Museum
You can't sugarcoat the shutdown. But sometimes it has its perks: we get to see things we would otherwise never get to see – like 2,000 historical pairs of shoes. They are stored in the Wien Museum's fashion depot, and a film tour has now brought them out. Uncomfortable things are revealed: until the end of the 19th century there was no left and right shoe! But when you see the beautiful turn-of-the-century models from the Wiener Werkstätten, you'll want to slip into them ;-) Delicate silk pieces, rarities and embroidered ballroom shoes all in gold are brought to light.

Every Name Counts
We still do not know all the names of the victims of National Socialism. To change this, the project “Every Name Counts” was launched last year. The aim is to preserve all data of former concentration camp inmates in a public online archive so that no name is forgotten. Today, on Holocaust Memorial Day, the names already known will be projected onto a building in Berlin in a light installation – and broadcast via live stream. And the project is calling on everyone to help! It's easy: just five minutes is all it takes to type out a few names and preserve them.

Tip Top Frozen Market
Here’s another creative answer to Corona and lockdowns: Vienna now has its first frozen food market. In normal times, Margit Köffler supplies companies and parties with her catering company, now everyone can stock up on her really delicious dishes. At home, all you have to do is defrost and heat the high-quality, handmade dishes. Really convenient! You can have them delivered or buy them at the pop-up market.
