"Heya Girls!"
I allow myself to nick half of a slogan (thanks, radio Ö1) und hereby decide: Listen to this week! Why? Because a couple of ladies that are pretty much on the top of my personal “wow!”- list are coming to town. First of all, Azam Ali. The native of Iran does not only -highly successfully- mix old Sufi-lyrics with western dance floor and combine Iranian traditional music with electro- trance. Above all, she sings about the topics that have to be heard in times of insane religious wars and terror: about freedom of expression, the rights of minorities, strong oriental women and about dignity of all people. And on Saturday, Amira Medujanin from Sarajevo will present “Sevdalinke” – Bosnian love songs that are in no way inferior to Portuguese fado. Incredibly sad, but so beautiful!

Wishing you a lovely week

P.S. You should better hurry up: For only 2 more days you have the chance to win your very personal prince – marvellously painted by Willy Puchner! Here!

Traces – Vienna’s forgotten sides
Good news for those of you who are tired of Sachertorte, Sisi madness and the sugar-sweet touristy sides of Vienna! You now have the chance to discover the city’s gloomy counter side. The photographers Christian Stangl & Reinhart Francois are constantly searching for the „other“ Vienna. On their nocturnal expeditions they captured dark streets, ruined buildings and abandoned corners in their photos. Intensive photos which, from today on, can be admired in Gebietsbetreuung 14 and, in line with the subject, in the display windows of empty shops in Linzer Straße.

Geschwister Pfister: How about, how about…?
Splendid, splendid! The cult trio of singers honours us with their presence. Tonight they will make the Viennese sweat. As usual, they will perform live and surprise the audience with a brand-new show (“Wie wär’s, Wie wär’s?”)! This time the fictional orphans Ursli & Toni Pfister are exploring Italy. They bring along the odd bird Fräulein Schneider, the musically gifted Jo Roloff Trio and tons of Italo-hits and schmaltzy songs. Most of them from the 50s to the 70s. Kitsch at its best! A wild mix of humorous cabaret with music, virtuous entertainment and subtle irony. O soooole mio....

Halloween Dinner at Palais Coburg
Here we have the chance to enjoy the night to November 1st without blood, but with a due portion of luxury instead. And to uphold the catholic-Irish tradition in an eerily-beautiful candlelight dinner, deep under ground in medieval cellar-vaults. In a mystic-noble atmosphere. 5 courses will ensure breath-holding suspense in a culinary way: “Open your eyes!” Turnips with beetroot infusion. Or: beef tartar with black mayonnaise. A scary-brilliant soundtrack will accompany the menu. To those of you who prefer a more intense nightmare, we warmly recommend the wild Scary-Fest at Ottakringer Brauerei. This is the place where Halloween is celebrated with red beer.

David Garrett
Put on your high heels and get dolled up! On his Classic Revolution Tour, the rockstar amongst the virtuoso violinists will stop off in Vienna. His temperamental numbers and sexy acts will cause authentic shouting and cheering. With his unique combination of rock and classic he is enchanting critics and fans alike. His live performance is simply awesome – practical side effect: he is in touching distance. Garrett’s fantastically staged show is full of surprises, like a laser-show, fireworks and even a levitation number. 9 times platinum and 22 times gold obviously work miracles ;-)

I admit: Purchasing the glorious vintage pieces of Heide and Ina Holub requires good timing. Well, rarities have to make themselves scarce in some way. The time has come again: Extraschön will open its showroom for 2 days. And sell carefully selected retro-pieces and extravagant accessories at truly low prices. In the flea-market room prices range between only 3 and 18 €! This is why “extraschön” has already been our shop of the week, of course (web). Dia de los Muertos
What a lovely concept: According to Mexican faith, the deaths are visiting their dear ones on earth once a year to celebrate a joyful reunion - with music, dance and delicious food. They celebrate the „Día de los Muertos“ on November 1st in a huge public festival. In Vienna, the Mexican festival will take place in the WUK this year. People build up colourful altars and place photos and the favourite dishes of their loved ones on them. Sipping margaritas and tequila they dance in time with South-American rhythms – and the deaths are celebrating with them!

Diego Velázquez
Vienna premiere! His figures seem so real and straight that they nearly jump out of the paintings. When looking at the infante “Prince Baltasar Carlos on Horseback”, for example, you might consider running for cover. And, with her big eyes and cherry-red mouth, “Margarita Teresa in a Blue Dress” seems to look deeply and directly into the art lovers’ heart. Now the greatest works of the baroque portrait painter are on display in Vienna for the first time. In a comprehensive exhibition, including some works that have never been presented before. Captivating!

Tihar – Festival of lights
Tihar is one of Nepal’s most beautiful festivals: It honours goddess Lakshimi, goddess of wealth and luck. On that day, she descends from heaven to earth where a sea of lights shall show her the way into people’s homes. The whole country of Nepal is illuminated by thousands of lights that evening. The Nepalese Restaurant Yak+Yeti (highly recommended!) will bring a drop of this special atmosphere to Vienna tonight. Tihar is celebrated with an opulent buffet of traditional Nepalese dishes. Make a reservation in advance!

Orange Wine Festival
Since the CitySpotterGirl has recently found her favourite wine, which happens to be an orange one, the Orange Wine Festival today is a must-go. Besides red, white and rosé a fourth colour of wine is now on its way to win hearts in Vienna. Orange wine is produced like red wine, however, using white grapes instead of red ones. This is how it has already been done 5,000 years ago. The colour of the wine is due to its mash fermentatior. Today 80 wine growers are presenting more than 200 orange wines from Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy: all of them authentically organic, earthy, additive- free.

Chestnut + gherkin jar = detergent? Correctly read! For our next laundry day we just have to shake trees forcefully. Pregesbauer, who has been doing her laundry that way for years, will provide you with necessary tips concerning preparation, collecting, drying, storing, mashing of chestnuts, durability and hand wash. Chili and the Whalekillers
Extraordinaire avantgarde- pop! In Austria they are hardly known by anyone. In Iceland their hit “Turn” was number 3 in the charts for weeks at the beginning of the year. Leaving behind U2 and Pharrell Williams. Tonight, the alternative band, made up of 5 guys, will finally pop-rock in Vienna. Their (live-performed!) intensive, humorous and - most importantly - danceable songs will entertain the crowds and create party atmosphere. Cheering handsome guys on their charismatic performance. Listening to wonderful lyrics. And jauntily hopping about in step for a while. My dear, life can be so beautiful

Schwadron – new traces
Around 1900 they were a must-have for people with pride: décor and ceramic tiles of the Viennese label Schwadron. The company doesn’t exist any more. But its unique works do – tracked down and discovered by Tina Zickler in villas and houses in and around Vienna. Tina Zickler searched for traces once again and called for co-searchers. And she did it successfully! The exhibition presents: contemporary and historic photos of 25 (!) newly discovered apartment buildings, Schwadron ovens and fountains, as well as 2 original sculptures of Vienna’s former swimming pool Dianabad! Vienna is glittering! For one enchanting night, marvellous jewels will decorate the displays of countless artists’ studios, shops and museums. And some female wrists. Around 50 designers and organisers take part in this year’s tour through Vienna’s galleries of jewellery art. Visitors can admire traditional pieces as well as vintage and modern jewels. Students of the school Herbststraße will show their works on the subject “nature”, Susanne Blin will present cool “robots” – rings, fashion and jewellery come together at artup, and Claudia Steiner displays her „urban landscapes“ at Pregenzer.

A halo for everyone who does her shopping here! On each hanger, in each shelf, you will find 100% fair-trade fashion. And I´m talking about fashion with style & charm. The hemp-jute non-design, commonly offered elsewhere, is out of question for shop owner and sunshine Alexandra Haupt and will definitely not find its way into her two-floor boutique. Her own collection for ladies & gents impresses with gorgeous autumn colours and elaborate patterns. Jovial splashes of colour are flashing in between, especially in the accessory collection.
