"Heya Girls!"
Yeah, sure you can travel to the most remote corners of the world to experience the unknown. But the bigger challenge is to find the exciting things that are right on your doorstep. Where you walk by every day or have already been dozens of times. This Friday, for example, you could see Vienna through completely new eyes – on a night tour in the Vienna Woods. If you want to know what a lighthouse is doing at the edge of the forest or what a bat sounds like, you can join biologists on a late-night search for clues and observe nocturnal creatures. The expeditions through the night last about three hours, participation is free. One route leads through Ottakringer Wald, the second through Dehnepark. On Saturday, you can look over the experts' shoulders as they work during the day: The Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve, together with the City of Vienna's Forestry Department, invites you to the Biodiversity Day in Ottakring. With nature tours, micro-theatre, lectures, a creative programme and sustainable food.

Wishing you an adventurous week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Design Sale at Nanna’s
A move is coming up! The very smart shop for Scandinavian design in Barnabitengasse leaves its location to move to the vicinity of CitySpotterGirl’s office. Starting this week, all items in stock are 50% off due to the move! You'll find cosy items as well as decor items and a colourful mix of furniture, vases, tableware and lamps. But only until 18 June!

Extinction Ballads: Floral Opulence
Now this is quite an unusual place for art: Tonight is the opening of the restaurant Hey Dim Sum Gallery, which makes its large walls available for young artists. So while you are enjoying the variety of Cantonese dim sum cuisine, you can experience art at the same time. The opening exhibition will be created by Austrian photo artist Michaela Putz, who deals with extinct flora under the title “Extinction Ballads”. The baroque-looking, digital photographic works all contain footage of recently disappeared or endangered plants.

 Zelda Weber
Zelda Weber
She's only 19 years old, but her distinctive voice is one you won't soon forget. No wonder Zelda Weber has been called “the next big thing” by critics. Born in Cologne, raised in the Styrian province and now living in Vienna, the young musician writes all her songs herself. They sound a bit like the 1930s and then again like Amy Winehouse. Blues like you haven't heard it for a long time! You can listen in here. Attention: Due to a bad weather warning, the planned outdoor concert has been moved to Das Werk on the Danube Canal!

Walk to historical cinemas
“Filmriss” is the name of the walk today following the traces of forgotten and disappeared cinemas. Wilhelm Grabmayr is a passionate cinema-goer: through extensive research he has found evidence of a total of 33 (!) cinemas in the 3rd district, 19 of which are visited on Jane's Walk today. Many buildings are no longer there – some cinema halls have since been converted and put to a different use. However, the cinema hall can still be seen on some of the building facades. Meeting point is at Schwarzenbergplatz, then you continue by tram and on foot.

Meeting point: in front of Club Inc, Schwarzenbergplatz 7, 1030 Vienna. 10 June 15:00. Free. Web

 Augarten
White Weeks at Augarten Porzellan
Founded in 1718, the Augarten porcelain factory in Vienna is the second oldest in Europe. Today, as in the past, every single piece is made by hand – and still popular with royals worldwide. Now you can get the royal feeling for a good deal cheaper: from today until 18 June, the Augarten shops are holding their White Weeks. And you can buy pure white porcelain from the 2nd choice at up to 80 percent off! White vases as well as a white tea set, flower pots or entire tableware sets at a sensational price. Today is also Open House at Schloss Augarten!

Shopping Days in Mauer
Tasting, chatting, trying on, maybe while having a glass of Prosecco, browsing, hunting for bargains – in a nutshell: having a normal, nice shopping day again! This is possible today in the nice neighbourhood around Maurer Hauptplatz, where the term “enjoyment” is stretched quite a lot. The shopping variety is great – fashion, glasses, summer care, home accessories, stationery, ice cream, sausages and porcelain are all available with discounts or goodies. Like the summer dresses at La Dama, all for €39. Nice! You can recognise the participating shops by the colourful balloons.

Water Hike
If you have lived in as many big cities as CitySpotterGirl, you know that Vienna has a truly great advantage: water. Crystal-clear mountain spring water flows from the Rax and Schneeberg regions into the capital via the 1st Vienna Mountain Spring Pipeline, over a distance of 150km. 220 million litres a day! On a hike along the pipeline with its many aqueducts, the topic today – together with survival trainer Ralph Endlich – is water. How do you find water in emergency situations? How can water be treated? How does it get into the city? Put on sturdy shoes!

Meeting point: will be announced at registration. 11 June 9:00. 15 €. Web

 Susanne Bisovsky
Susanne Bisovsky at Geymüllerschlössl
It really does go together wonderfully: a beautiful Biedermeier gem with an enchanted park all around and the unusual fashion of Susanne Bisovsky. As of today, the Geymüllerschlössl is hosting an exhibition of the Viennese designer's stunning dresses. Unperturbed by trends, the fashion designer has been working for three decades on a seemingly out-of-time image of a “beautiful Viennese woman” and a timeless “Viennese chic”. Today's launch will also feature a fine vintage market and a book presentation and at 15:00, the designer herself gives a guided tour of the show.

Flea market at Liechtensteinpark
Bargain hunters can dig for treasures and get some fresh air today in the idyllic Liechtensteinpark. For a “real” flea market is taking place there (i.e. one that doesn't happen every week). So the treasure collection is colourful and wide-ranging – there are antiques, art, porcelain, jewellery and clothing, books and CDs. And for all those who have uncovered some things they could do without during the clear-out, there are still free stalls (around 20 €). Afterwards, you can take a walk through the park and enjoy a coffee and a piece of cake in the garden snack bar.

Wine Hike: Down the Kahlenberg
Normally the path leads uphill first before the laurels, or in this case fermented grapes, can be enjoyed. This wine hike, however, does it the other way round and starts right at the summit of the Kahlenberg today. From there we will walk together through the dark green of the Vienna Woods and out into the vineyards. We’ll stop for two glasses of wine (which are included) or more at wine taverns, hipster or dreamy, depending on which ones are open, and then continue to hike leisurely downhill. A pleasant hike with a view of Vienna, woods and wine. Wear sturdy shoes!

Jewish street festival
Colourful, loud, lively: Judenplatz is the place to be today. At the street festival you can discover, buy and taste Jewish art, culture and culinary delights. More than 40 associations are taking part, and various stalls offer beautiful handicrafts, literature and fashion. There is plenty of kosher food, even kosher Asian food from Mea Shearim and ice cream from Veganista! There will also be a varied programme on stage: the Wiener Jüdische Chor, Roman Grinberg accompanied by the Klezmer Swingtett and special guest Lea Kalisch. Please bring your passport!

Cinema on the roof
Summer brings summer cinemas! The chilled open-air cinema on the roof of the main library relies on good weather until 31 July and shows great cinema for eight weeks – from cinematic highlights to international novelties. Today, one of the most legendary concerts of all time can be seen: On 30 January 1969, the frenetically celebrated Beatles surprised passers-by in London with an unannounced rooftop concert. What nobody knew: it was to be their last concert. Director Peter Jackson takes the audience on a journey through time in a captivating documentary.

The dogs from Heldenplatz
CitySpotterGirl is of course known to be a cat person. But in the dog park at Heldenplatz you can currently find a photo exhibition that will make everyone chuckle. Photographer Clemens Schneider has taken portraits of dogs that meet at Heldenplatz – against a neutral background, only the dog's name is revealed. And questions inevitably arise: Are inner-city dogs different? Is the other end of the leash also different if it regularly spends time in the city centre? In any case, the dogs have a hell of a lot of character. Spoiler alert: First Dog Juli is also going to be there!

Pop-up store “Bags help women”
It’s a well-known fact that many women have a strong handbag obsession, which is why this pop-up store is just right. Over the course of months, the store has been collecting handbags to find something for every budget: second-hand bags in good condition, rare vintage pieces, but also luxury brand bags from labels such as Chanel, Tods, Louis Vuitton and Donna Karan. The proceeds will go to the violence prevention project “StoP – Stadtteil ohne Partnergewalt” in Vienna. Please note: you can also still bring bags you want to donate – find out exactly where here.

Exchange room at MyPlace
Floor lamp for deck chair! Where things are usually stored, you can now also exchange them! In June, the MyPlace SelfStorage in Liesing converts one of its compartments into a swap room. The motto is swapping instead of throwing away, and the rules are quickly explained: everyone can swap up to 5 things, and what they bring must be in good condition and in working order. Food, medicine or underwear may not be exchanged, nor anything that should not be stored in the SelfStorage. In short: the barter goods should not contradict common sense ;-)

Best of Portugal
Sun, summer, holiday vibes! If you can't swap your desk for a beach chair just yet, you might still want to take a trip down south. Which, in this case, is located in Radetzkystraße, where a really fine shop has emerged from a Portuguese-Vorarlberg love story. The shelves are packed to the rafters with delicacies (yes, even homemade pasteis de nata) – and with beautiful things. Colourful tiles, funny ceramics, beautiful jewellery and cork products help against wanderlust. Especially nice: the summer handbags that are hand-woven from grass!

 Oma's Cafe
Oma's Cafe
This used to be a fashion shop, now vegans are happy about a new cafe. In cooperation with the well-known Cafe Stein, Omas's Backstube from the 2nd district has opened a branch. And just like in the main store, the motto is: all vegan, much of it gluten- and sugar-free. Whether chocolate cake, fruit tarts or cookies, the focus here is naturally on sweet stuff. But if you prefer something spicier, you will also be satisfied. Even meat eaters will like the vegan burger, the tomato soup is fruity and plenty of sandwiches (from avocado to tofu) satisfy your appetite.
