hunters and gatherers
Very stylish slow fashion! Ever since this year the socially engaged upcycling company garbage has added their own fashion line to their program. And tonight at their showroom at the Freihausviertel they will present their new collection. The designers Leni Landsgesell and Mara Gheddon hunted for used fabrics, earthy natural colors and unusual materials all over the city in order to turn them into cool and unique street wear pieces. The two famous look book models Miriam Hie and Nadine Friedrich definitely look fabulous while wearing the upcycling fashion pieces!

“Feuerdorf” at the Danube Canal
To sit around a fire with a group of friends in a cozy warm cabin, watching the flames and waiting for the barbecue to be done. This Scandinavian type of romance is now possible in the center of Vienna! Because today the “Feuerdorf” opens at the Danube Canal, close to the Salztor Bridge. The fire town includes a central gazebo bar and 10 cabins that can be rented for up to 12 persons. And inside the cabins you can barbecue. Organic meat, sides, sauces and drinks will be provided – you can choose from different menus ranging from Orient to Patagonia. Fine!

Ghostletters Vienna
They are witnesses of time, permanently threatened to be demolished or painted over: ghostletters can be found anywhere where writings are taken of portals and leave traces. Many of them can still be noticed for years in the public space and they tell us stories about the city’s history. The Viennese graphic designer Tim Koch and the photographers Daniel Gerersdorfer and Stephan Doleschal immortalized these typo relicts in a book. Their illustrated book will be presented tonight at the “Night of Signs” accompanied by live music and special guests at the Wien Museum. Afterwards: release party at the Club U right across the street.

Renate Reich
Jazz singer Renate Reich claims to make music for connoisseurs. And that includes a few especially delicious pieces! She writes all of the poetic songs herself, they are deeply personal and allow you to immerse yourself into feelings and sentiments. Using her distinctively velvet voice she tells a story in her new album “Home”, a story of travelling and coming home, of experiencing and feeling. All of them are wonderful songs that just stay with you. The acoustic jazzy version of Sting’s “Roxanne” is great as well! Live tonight at the Schwarzberg, for a first impression listen in here.

Chrysanthemum days 2016
To call this fantastic and wonderful autumn flower a cemetery flower would be very mean. In Asia these awesome beauties are even considered luxury foods and therapeutic goods. More than 2 100 chrysanthemums from more than 75 different types grow in the greenhouses of the Garden School in Schönbrunn – with huge blossoms in many different colors ranging from golden yellow to shocking pink. This weekend you have the chance to see the flowery splendor at the Garden School, which is usually closed to the public. On Sunday the floristic decoration can be bought at a low price (from 15:00).

Jelinek | Bachmann
A play about two unconventional authors – Ingeborg Bachmann and Elfriede Jelinek – might sound a bit exhausting. But actress Maxi Blaha causes the opposite effect with her scenic double portray: she wants to show in a humorous way that even those two highly intelligent women lead a mundane and sometimes bizarre life. She merges the words of the two exceptional authors into a monologue – and it isn’t only about the image of women in society, but also fashion and sexuality. In celebration of Jelinek’s 70th birthday tonight at the Theatermuseum!

Out of Place
A thrilling journey through the hearts and heads of young Palestinian artists who are trying to flee their present reality and are going on a quest looking for an existence that is worth living. The scenes of the play “Out of Place” are set in cities like Bethlehem, Ramallah and Jenin but also in countries like Germany and the USA. The chosen dances portray different types of fear: the fear of change, the fear of oppression and the fear of being alone. And yet the Diyar Dance Theatre wants to give courage to young people. Great!

Benedict Cumberbatch in „Frankenstein“
In England, the CitySpotterGirl would be considered a Cumberbitch. And yes, I’m okay with that ;-). Today is a truly wonderful day for all the Cumberbitches in Vienna! The Haydn Cinema shows the sensational theatre production of “Frankenstein” of the London National Theatre on the big screen at the cinema. And acting as Frankenstein: Benedict Cumberbatch! The universally celebrated production was orchestrated by Academy Award winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire). Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller took turns every night playing the roles of Frankenstein and his creature.

The Invisible Show at the MQ attic
Pretty cool! From today on the usually not accessible attic of the former baroque stables at the Museums Quarter is turning into a showplace for an exhibition. Or better said: a museum discovery tour. Because the visitors are lead through an adventurous obstacle course over steep stairwells and dusty footbridges, along collections of objects, museum quotes and historical icons, accompanied by sounds, films and photographs of the exhibiting artists. The quirky performer Austrofred functions as the museum attendant and comments the tour via audio guide as well.

Japan-day
Cherry blossom flair in the center of the Mariahilfer Straße: today at the Japan-day you can experience the tradition and folkloric art of the far-away island state at first hand. For example you can see Origami in a completely perfected form – like the folding of good-luck cranes in different varieties. And also Ikebana, the art of flower arranging. The preparation of Matcha tea will be celebrated as well and it will be served with Japanese sweets. And there will also be a Kimono expert who will demonstrate on volunteering women how to wrap yourself in the original Japanese way – with a bow ;-)

The heart of democracy
The parliament has never seen this before! As we know the building on the Ring will be undergoing general renovations from 2017 to 2020 – and before that it will turn into a theatrical powerhouse. For two days instead of debates there will be music from Federspiel, Alma or the Strottern heating up the old rooms, Emmanuel Obeya and Esther Balfe will be performing dances. Authors like Juli Zeh and Paulus Hochgatterer wrote pieces about democracy and they will be staged by well-known actors. Every staging will be performed in a different room and played continuously – you can wander from one to another!

Voodoo Jürgens
No, Voodoo Jürgens’ music is not considered Austropop. That sounds way too outdated and boring for someone who is such a hype at the moment – and leading the charts. Tonight’s concert was sold out so quickly, that an additional gig was set up at the same night. On the agenda are acoustic guitar, silver necklace and morbid stories about rascals and failed existences – ironic, sarcastic and with more drama then happiness. Voodoo Jürgens, just like Wanda and also Nino aus Wien, bets on Austro-dialect-songwriting-storytelling. And that works especially well live in concert!

And now the time has come: Lems opens her own store – and presents her first bag collection. The designer who used to work for Eva Blut loves beautiful things. And that is why you can get anything you would pack in your bag at her store: notepads from Japan, pens from Denmark, bottles from Slovenia. Opening: Friday 16:00!

Crazy Lobster
To be honest, Vienna has only one disadvantage: it is not located by the sea. During the fall the CitySpotterGirl would love to have an “Indian Summer” like on the American east coast: an explosion of colors and lobster at every street corner. When it comes to the trees, the Naglergasse doesn’t stand a chance, but from now on there will be lobster – at the Crazy Lobster. The lobsters, along with crabs, are flown in regularly and in the kitchen are turned into Lobster Roll Sandwiches, crabs with homemade pasta and lobster bisque. Tastes delicious and is affordable and pleasantly un-snobbish, just like in the US.
Crazy Lobster, Naglergasse 21, 1010 Vienna. Mon-Sun 12:00 to 24:00 (No kitchen in the afternoon). Web
