"Heya Girls!"
I'm going to steal half an advertising slogan (thank you, Ö1) and hereby state: This week should be heard! For there are a few ladies arriving whose music is right at the top of my personal “Wow!” list. First of all, there is Yousra Mansour and her band Bab L'Bluz. She belongs to a young generation of Moroccan female artists who sing unmistakable words of freedom in the Darija dialect. The four extraordinary singers of “Les Sahariennes” also bring – despite the many conflicts in their region – their common musical heritage to the stage to stand united against the difficulties of geopolitics. And on Wednesday, the Senegalese singer Marema tells of the strong women of her homeland in her great songs. All these ladies are in Vienna for the Salam Orient Festival. This year's festival focuses on the Sahara countries and offers a glimpse into regions that are rarely in the public eye until 6 April.

Wishing you a diverse week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Wiener Blond
The beatbox-pop duo Wiener Blond turns 10! Since 2012, Verena Doublier and Sebastian Radon have been grumbling their way through everyday life together and professionally. On their latest album, the 2 Viennese-by-choice are as funny as ever, but with a new sound: the characteristic dialect vocals used to be joined by very poppy, at times even orchestrated melodies. The new album now features grooves, loops and more electronics than before. The current tour will not disappoint fans of the previous sound, though, because: Yes Vienna, the last emperor is (and remains) you!

Slow fashion with a twist: The socially committed upcycling company gabarage has been breaking new ground again and again for years now and shows what “upstyling” can be all about. Discarded fabrics and old clothes are turned into durable bags and cool everyday accessories. Wild Vienna: Cooking with wild herbs
Spring is when it gets warmer and the smell of wild garlic is everywhere. Going in search of wild herbs in Vienna sounds adventurous, but it can be very rewarding! Today, together with nutrition expert Alexandra Maria Rath, the local herbal delicacies that Simmering has to offer are collected. Afterwards, a seasonal, multi-course menu will be prepared at Glashausküche: wild garlic ricotta gnocchi and dandelion salad, wild herb puff pastry dumplings with a refreshing dip and homemade goutweed lemonade. Quite exciting what you can find in Vienna!

Kindergarten for Adults
Every now and then you do kind of wish you could just be a child again. That's why you’re allowed to do that today: drawing, creative writing, sitting in the reading corner with a few comics – and interacting freely with playmates, without any demands or expectations. After an introductory circle in which the group playfully gets to know each other, you an let out your inner child for the whole morning: materials and play impulses are available. At the end, we reflect together on what we have experienced. And the best thing is: assessments have no place here today!

Earth Hour “Lights Out”-campaign
Quick, stock up on candles! From 20:30 to 21:30, it's lights out! The WWF is once again calling for participation in the world's biggest climate protection campaign. And because, with the exception of some old-school politicians, every child has realised that global warming, glacier retreat and the like can't go on any longer, we'll be setting an example together today and saving energy. In Vienna, in addition to private homes, many landmarks such as Schönbrunn Palace, the Rathaus, the Hofburg and the Staatsoper remain dark. Around the world, the lights go out.

Tailoring Market
Sewing enthusiasts meet at Schönbrunn Palace this weekend! Not only can you buy the latest fabric trends and innovative patterns, but there will also be exciting talks on the topic of clothing. Today, for example, lingerie maker Katrin Höhn talks about sewing with fine lace and what measurements have to be taken for perfectly fitting underwear. Up-cyclist Shana Stallybrass, however, explains what to look out for when you literally turn your old shirt into a skirt. Another key topic is body positivity, i.e., how to feel more comfortable in your body.

True to Life
Paris, 1855: French painter Gustave Courbet exhibits at the World's Expo. His works are completely new, do not euphemize anything and show reality: the art genre “Realism” was born! The new exhibition at the Upper Belvedere is dedicated to this type of painting, which was to determine the following 100 years. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, realism, together with photography, which was still immature at the time, was a welcome antipole to the constantly changing styles of the avant-garde. It shows the special in the seemingly banal, the everyday. Immersion desired!

Katy Kirby
US indie-darling Katy Kirby plays at Haus der Musik today. The Texan singer-songwriter with the soft voice makes fresh indie rock for which you don’t have to unpack the rock reference catalogue. Kirby grew up in the home of her strongly religious parents without any insanely diverse musical influences; she made her first experiences as a singer in the church choir. On her debut album Cool Dry Place, she sounds sometimes angry and sometimes tender, sometimes naive and sometimes detached. Kirby is on the Guardian's one-to-watch list, her album is highly praised by many!

Hamdraht by Martina Parker
The garden crime series goes into its second round! In “Zuagroast” Eva and Paul move to southern Burgenland, where – according to Paul – the land is cheap and the women are willing. In Eva's new “Club of Green Thumbs”, on the other hand, there’s gardening, love and murder. “Hamdraht” is about a murder in a wellness hotel. Local journalist Vera is invited on a press trip, and her mother invites herself along. It’s all fine and dandy until they stumble over a dead body. And the garden club members have their green thumbs in the pie once again. Today there's a reading & chat with the author!

BitSh!
A theatre premiere that is exciting for not one but two reasons. Firstly, it takes place in the former Semmelweis Clinic – lost places aficionados can thus catch a glimpse of the interior of the disused hospital. Secondly, the hospital is being used temporarily as a theatre venue, and you can expect a course with four performances that deal with social decline: from call centre employees who are about to be fired to kindergarten parents' evenings at which the children's chances of advancement are increased by means of a ranking competition. The performances take place in different rooms and on different floors.

Kasnudln Stadtküche
Fresh Kasnudln are a regional specialty – which from now on you won’t have to import from Carinthia, but only from Seestadt. For a Kasnudl factory has set up there, and its self-service shop supplies noodle aficionados with the cheesy delicacies on Sundays and public holidays. In addition to the classic Kasnudl, there are also many other fillings: meaty, with oyster mushrooms, beetroot, sweet or vegan – everyone is sure to get their money's worth! Organic hay-milk butter and the products of the mushroom makers Hut & Stiel are also available in the vending machine – really quite nice ;-)

Kent at Domenig House
Anyone who has ever seen the Domenig house in Favoritenstraße will definitely always remember it. With its flowing façade of curved stainless-steel plates, it is one of the most important buildings of more recent architecture in Austria. It had been empty for years, but now life has returned – and how! The Turkish restaurant chain Kent has opened its newest restaurant there on four levels. Funnily enough, the Turkish music, cheerful waiters, lots of hustle and bustle and the classic Kent cuisine fit perfectly into the modern building-thing with its concrete look and huge pipes. Simply a must-see!
