"Heya Girls!"
Let me put it this way: There’s no way without it. No CitySpotterGirl without ice cream. Technically, it’s just a bit of frozen water or milk, some fruit and aroma. Technically being the operative word here. Because in reality, the colourful little seducer-balls have long become a cult delight. They were invented by the Chinese, but in ancient Greece and Rome too, the art of ice cream making was already popular. This weekend at the Ice Cream Festival at Augarten, you can go and savour what the present has to offer on this topic. More than 15 ice cream makers and sweet dish-wizards will present their newest creations – from italo-classic to vegan and super hip. Like sugar melon-prosciutto-gelato and Kaiserschmarrn-ice cream! And if you want to know even more: on Saturday, the slow-food-ice cream makers from Leones are offering a fine culinary delight workshop, where you can get tips and tricks on how to do it yourself and taste all 15 flavours. Yummy, yummy!

Wishing you a sweet week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Vintage bikes & Copenhagen Wheel
What’s the use of 1,350 kilometers of cycle paths and mountain bike routes in and around Vienna if you don’t have a bike? Yes, shame on me, but this can be changed now. Online selling site willhaben uses the summer to come up with a cool tryout-event. Put the pedal to the metal and, starting now, try out a variety of single speed-racing bikes, bizarre highrisers, or nostalgic vintage-bikes. Just deposit your ID as security and cycle away for 15 minutes. Particularly cool: the hip Copenhagen Wheel from the US, which transforms (nearly) every bike into an e-bike can be admired and tested for the first time. Vienna premiere!

  Leopold Museum
Female images at Leopoldmuseum
Three vernissages in one sweep! It’s all happening at Leopoldmuseum: author Radek Knapp meets expressionist Alfred Kubin. Jan Fabre is represented by his performative “Stigmata” and “Thinking Models”. And – CitySpotterGirl’s clear favourite! – the new female images-exhibition opens. The female portraits range from Biedermeier to Early Modernism. Most of it is dominated by the male artist’s gaze, but women’s art is represented as well: Fascinating works by Käthe Kollwitz or the New Yorker Guerilla Girls. Well, and Klimt isn’t missing, either, obviously ;-)

Designer sale with anima & Linusch
Clear cuts and bright colours are the common fashion denominator of the two Viennese labels anima and Linusch. For their big summer sale, both designers will get together again: Linusch will part with some colourful dresses with the characteristic geometrical patterns and anima-designer Angelika Gregoric will also contribute some appealing pieces. And this year, there will also be encores in the form of refined folding hats by Walli Jungwirth, great wooden clogs for spoiled feet by Nina Bernert, sustainable African textile jewellery by Ai Kijima & dubaruba as well as fine hand-woven BAZA fabrics. Chic and cheerful!

Edible gardens in Floridsdorf
Attention nature friends! Today, you can roam through three new model city greening projects in the realm of the 21st district, together with organic farmers, landscape architects & other experts. It starts at 15:30 o’clock with a tour through the lovely forest garden where more than 300 (wild) fruit- and cultivated plants, like rare pawpaw, Chinese dates and edible blossoms, await curious little red riding hoods. At 17:00 o'clock, continue your journey to the beautiful Schichtgründe (a former industrial area), and then at 17:30 on to the Naschgarten (nosh garden). And yes, tasting is allowed, of course ;-) Exciting!

Girls, now it’s grill time! But only with alerted taste buds and a good portion of appetite. Obviously ;-) For three days, the biggest BBQ event of the year will be taking place in Vienna! On more than 12 000 sqm, you can browse everything the barbecue world has to offer. For example, you can look over the shoulder of the best BBQ (world) champions as they work, participate in one of the many free workshops and shows or debauch in treats like herbal haunch of venison with delicious polenta casserole, smartly stuffed mushrooms or grilled vanilla papaya with coconut milk.  Bon Appetit!

Goodball Summer Party
This may be about football, but this summer party including a charity tournament offers a high chill and entertainment factor for non-fans, too! 30 teams kick the ball to win money for social charities, and ten live-acts will provide some cool vibes around the football field. FM4-guy John Megill will do the musical warm-up, together with Goodball-founder Mary Broadcast, then „A Life A Song A Cigarette“-songwriter Stephan Stanzel and cellist Lukas Lauermann with their Folk-Americana-combo, among others, will honor us with their presence. And the finale will be set to live music by musician Martin Schlögel!

Time journey and medieval fair at Arsenal
Unpack your damsel of the castle-gown, magic harp, and fool’s cap! This weekend, the Museum of Military History hosts a time journey through the last centuries. Among others, we’ll travel back to the Middle Ages, where a huge artisan craftwork fair invites you to do some nostalgic rummaging, while cooking artists provide a sumptuous feast. Today’s program includes for instance horse tournaments, musical show-acts (Rhiannon), as well as a spectacular fire show. By the way, everyone wearing a medieval costume gets in free of charge! And a tip: Better take public transport to travel there.

Evening tour on the Danube
How about this: You’re totally relaxed and in the here and now, letting the day come to an end on the ship and, as icing on the cake, enjoying the sunset on the outside deck? The cruise ship MS Wien departs today for its evening tour from the boat station Wien / City. From Schwedenplatz, it will first follow the Danube canal through the illuminated Viennese city centre. Then it’s through the historical lock Nußdorf and onto the Danube to Reichsbrücke, where it will reverse. Afterwards, the night sailors will sail back to the starting point. And since so much romance whets the appetite, the boat restaurant offers catering. ;-)

Knick-knacks flea market
A nice initiative that is very easy for bargain hunters to support– by flea-market shopping ;-) The Wiener Bedarfshilfe (a non-profit organisation) consists of about 100 volunteers that support people in need with necessary things like food or health counselling. Every other Sunday per month, they also organise a flea market under a certain motto where people can sell things without having to pay stand fees to sell things. Today the motto being “Knick-knacks”, you can browse through all things old, fancy and strange in their club house in Meidling, thus spending little money for a very good cause.

For once, you won’t wear a gown to the State Opera, but cool street wear. Because today’s not a premiere of Verdi or Puccini, but a really unique shopping experience: For one day, the opera will be turned into an international fashion house! And tempts you with chic popup boutiques, beauty areas, show acts and fine cuisine in the winter garden, the Marble Hall, the Gustav Mahler Hall, on the terrace and in the Tea Salon. And when at 18:00 o’clock, the State Opera Ballet presents the new Poleschinski collection in a danced fashion show, we will get a bit of Opera Ball-feeling after all! Cool.

Patti Austin “For Ella”
This year’s jazz festival is brimming over with women power and sympathetic exceptional divas: Dee Dee Bridgewater, The Leading Ladies, Fernanda Cunha. Not to forget highly gifted Patt Austin who will liven things up tonight at the big finale at the arcade court in Rathaus with her “Tribute for Ella“. The Jazz and R&B lady from New York was born in 1950 and apparently under a lucky star (she missed one of the 9/11 flights). She breathes her very personal timbre into the ballads of her big idol Ella Fitzgerald (who would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year). Goosebumps are guaranteed, listen in here!

The Palace Dorotheum in the 1st district, built in 1707, is the biggest auction house in Central Europe and always worth a visit due to its variety of art, jewellery, and design pieces. Detox Delight Pop-up
Normally, CitySpotterGirl is not really into self-punishment and the whole beauty craze in general. Also, it’s probably a bit too late for this year’s beach body ;-) But there is absolutely nothing to say against the healthy superfood-snacks at the new Detox Delight Pop-up Store in the first district. They taste delicious and make you feel good and fit – internally and externally. Apart from fresh juice and smoothies, there are many skinny dishes awaiting your “healthy” appetite, for example chia seed puddings, raw cakes and risotti on buckwheat-spinach basis. The clean food can be gourmandized in house or taken home.

Whoever has been condemned to sunbathing on your staycation or has to wait an eternity for their personal happiness and recreation weeks, could take a stroll to the Museum of Natural History in the meantime. From the thousands of Caspian gulls that are circuiting the oldest manned lighthouse of the Adria on Palagruza to the flamingos in the salt works of Istria. Selected favourites – this probably best describes what you can buy in the charming shop of designer Maria Andrea Lems. She herself designs simple leather bags in pastel tones as well as delicate jewelry. Additionally, the paper-lover carries everything she loves herself: trendy stationaries from the USA by Jo & Judy or Rifle, fancy scissors and pens, funny mini-Lego for flamingo crafting or stylish Schöndruck Letterpress-cards. l'autentico „giardino“
The summer heat is returning with full force right now, so this should be a good fit: seek refuge in one of the most wonderful restaurant-gardens in the city! The otherwise gastronomically grey area around Schwarzenbergplatz has a new motto: “Ciao Napoli”! In the generous and green garden of the new pizzeria l'autentico, you can enjoy crispy wonder-pizza made according to the original Neapolitan recipe. Whether in classic style with San Marzano tomato sauce or as pizze bianche (e.g. with porcini and truffle sauce) – culinary dolce vita is guaranteed. Lunch-time is rather business-like, but in the evening, it gets romantic.
