editorial

"Heya Girls!"
At least the end of the lockdown is in sight, that’s something. So this will once again be a mishmash edition of your favourite newsletter: a lot will take place online, some of it “for real” next week. For fans of our city, here's a phenomenal online tip: the Wien Museum has been putting objects from the museum collection online for a year now – there are already over 68,000! You can search for specific items, browse with relish or look through prepared albums. What did Klimt's work coat look like? What were the names of Vienna's oldest coffee houses? Where did the city's trams run in 1915? Everything is just one click away! With photos and explanatory texts, you can literally lose yourself in Vienna's colourful history here. And best of all: the majority of the object illustrations are available for free download as open content! So if you want to get creative, you can design perfect gifts or calendars. Oh, by the way, Klimt's coat was blue with white embroidery ;-)

Wishing you a buzzing week,

 rosa mosa
rosa mosa christmas special
CitySpotterGirl is still a little bit tentative when it comes to buying presents, on the one hand because of Lockdown, and on the other because of a lack of creative ideas. The hip shoemakers from rosa mosa have a solution: they offer two “gift bundles” filled with smart things like wallets, hand-pulled candles, Japanese tea and ceramic mugs. Each bundle is worth 109€ and goes over the counter for only 89€! There's no need to wrap anything up, as everything is already festively wrapped in a Japanese furushiki cloth. Which, of course, may be used afterwards – as a scarf or a shawl. Cool!

 This Human World
this human world: Online Edition
Human rights must not be cancelled in 2021, either – the International Human Rights Film Festival will therefore take place virtually this year. All films are available for 48 hours from the date of broadcast. And not only the films will go online. Q&As and live discussions round off the programme. You can see courageous women journalists in India who, with Khabar Lahariya, produce the country's only all-women newspaper, or the harrowing struggle of Teodora Vasquez, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for aggravated murder after a miscarriage.

Gentle Yoga
Rani is Indian and means queen – and you do feel like a queen after a relaxing yoga session with Rani Gindl. And in all honesty, anyone who has managed to make it through almost two years of pandemic without online yoga must be running out of hobbies, right? ;-) In any case, today's session is very gentle – with asanas, breathing and meditation techniques for all new and returning yogis who are looking for a haven of peace in their lives or who like to take things slowly. A taster session is free, so take the opportunity and join in today via Zoom.

Friday in Venice
The real adventures take place in the mind – it's similar with travel! From now on, you can travel through Venice every Friday with cultural mediator and stylist Judith Bradlwarter. She walks in the footsteps of Venetian Renaissance painters for the Kunsthistorisches Museum and brings us a stylish piece of Italian holiday into winter-cold Vienna with historical culture highlights every week. So far, she has been to the Ospedaletto, a former women's home, and the church of San Zaccaria, once a Benedictine convent. You can find out where she's going next via the KHM's social media.

40 Years Theater Drachengasse
Drachengasse turns 40! To celebrate the anniversary, directors, directors and founder Emmy Werner celebrate together in front of the camera and chat about the exciting ups and downs of the past decades. Werner founded the theatre in the early 80s before she became director of the Volkstheater. The theatre icon will certainly reveal one or two anecdotes from her eventful life in the live stream ;) Originally a feminist playroom for culture, the theatre is now a professional stage that nevertheless promotes the independent scene. CitySpotterGirl wishes them all the best!

Indian Folk and Bollywood Dance
Well, CitySpotterGirl is really into Bollywood films! It’s all so colourful, passionate dancing instead of bland kissing, and an over-the-top happy ending! With a good dose of Bollywood flair, you can now distract yourself from any depression in Vienna today: at the Saturdance of the Caritas project Dance for Tolerance, they already did waacking, tutting and all the other weird youth dance styles, but today it's Bollywood dance. It’s a mix of traditional Indian folk dances and video clip dancing. It's the right exercise for women who spend ages sitting in front of their laptops ;-) Namaste!

Après Ski
Shamed be who thinks of the Ischgl escapades now! Rather, this is about a chance attic find – a pair of old cross-country skis and old ski poles that Haldis Scheicher fell in love with. The Vienna-based jewellery artist has been working with everyday objects for years, this time it was waxed boards, worn poles and tanned loops. Everything has a patina and everything – torn out of its original context and sometimes infused with precious metal – takes on a new aesthetic meaning. So this time Après Ski means: chains, pendants, objects. To be purchased in the studio in December!

Christmas tree sale by VinziRast
A grove of magnificent Christmas trees is currently greening the inner courtyard of the charitable VinziRast restaurant “mittendrin”. A dwindling stock of trees is expressly welcome here because: More than half of the money from every Christmas tree sold goes straight to maintaining the VinziRast facilities for homeless people – for them, the emergency sleeping facilities and housing projects are essential for survival in winter. Beautiful Nordmann firs and Colorado firs from organic cultivation in Lower Austria are available at the fundraising campaign. Happy tree shopping!

Raclette to go at Danube Canal
Raclette in a bread roll? Sounds a bit strange, but tastes excellent! Vienna has recently been enriched by a new street food trend. If you take your Lockdown stroll along the Danube Canal, you can now get a not entirely low-calorie but all the more delicious snack there. The raclette cheese from Swiss cheese maker Jumi is available with pickles and pearl onions in a roll or with potatoes and vegetables in a paper boat. Optional topping: prosciutto and ham. A little reward for being outdoors really can’t hurt ;-) Oh yes, and there's punch too!

 MAK
The Women of Wiener Werkstätte
What a great exhibition! Until October, the MAK presented for the first time a show on the female members of the Wiener Werkstätte, who are still often “overlooked” today. Furniture, wallpapers, textiles, graphics, ceramics and fashion were presented. Like the kimono designed by Maria Likarz that Marlene Dietrich wore in the cult film “The Blue Angel” in 1929. Now the exhibition has moved online and shows exciting objects, facts and great art as a digistory. The Wiener Werkstätte had over 180 employees – now you can trace them online for free.

 Gloria Amesbauer
Tara Lui + Glam
Support your local artists! The two artists who are on stage together today sound opposites, but fit together amazingly well. Tara Lui is a singer-songwriter with voice as her main instrument. Equipped with a loop station and only sometimes accompanied by piano, she weaves solo tapestries of sound. Glam alias Gloria Amesbauer makes experimental electro-pop, keyword synthesiser. Her lyrics are about the big issues of our time, and actually of everyone else's as well: What to do about patriarchy and imposed hetero-normativity? Make music, for example.

The Fearelli – Army of Softness
Why, could it be possible to do feminism this way, too? Grin! In search of mood-boosting drugs, you are currently stumbling across Vienna's most enrapturing guys. The Fearleader, an all-male cheerleading troupe, provides the best atmosphere and gender equality at the Vienna Roller Derbies with short panties and a lot tongue-in-cheek humour. Now that pandemic year number two is coming to an end, the boys' fancy calendar, called The Fearelli, is coming out. Its motto is “Softie”, because: The Fearleaders feel so attached to softness. The great Burgtheater reading club
The Burgtheater is closed, but its actors are still keeping busy! This week, for example, they read to us from new Austrian publications, selected by author Barbara Zeman. From poetry to prose, from non-fiction to an exchange of letters to graphic novels, a wide range of titles has been put together, all books are recently published and come from a domestic publisher. This means: Mavie Hörbiger & co read Barbi Markovic and Ilse Aichinger. Every evening a different book, every evening a new chance for exciting mental cinema.

City Farm searches funding partners
Well, it’s probably common knowledge by now that the City Farm is one of CitySpotterGirl's favourite projects. After the move from Schönbrunn to the Augarten, the greenhouse, indispensable for plant cultivation and used as a “green classroom”, had to be completely demolished last summer. Sponsors are now urgently needed for the construction and operation of a new glasshouse: Sponsorship partnerships are available at 60€ or 100€, in return for which you will receive eventful garden tours and a fresh vegetable box in the coming harvest season.

The Baroness's Panties
Vienna, 1911. Theater Nestroyhof: scantily clad actors perform farces. The censorship authorities are raging. At the turn of the century, the illustrious society is interested in one thing above all: how do women and men relate to each other? St. Pölten, 2021. The censored texts are found in the Landesarchiv and newly adapted for the Theater Nestroyhof. For the question remains: Have our moral concepts and gender roles long been outdated? The Baroness's Panties tries to answer this question. The historical-sensual revue premieres today as a film with live performance.

noord
Andrea Widhalm is actually a teacher. During her maternity leave she decided to turn her passion into her profession: interior decoration, preferably Scandinavian. She had already visited a Danish interior design fair! But because there was a pandemic, “noord” was initially a pure online shop full of original home accessories and pretty tableware. But since you’ll want to get your hands on your furnishings in advance, Widhalm has now opened a mini showroom. On Saturdays you can stroll by, smell scented candles from Paia Copenhagen and try cuddling some cushions from HKLiving. Beautiful!

That’s Vienna: A young female chef and a young male chef grab a disused newspaper kiosk next to the Serviten quarter and turn it into a food and culture stall. Instead of boring sausages, perfect goose burgers and Gomasio carrots are served on the spot, a Persian rug lies in front of the kiosk and rosehip Schaumrollen are served as dessert. Sounds more elegant than it actually is, because despite everything it's about a quick, uncomplicated snack. The only difference is that sometimes small readings or concerts take place around the stall and ceramics by artist-friends are sold. Very, very cool!
