"Heya Girls!"
Sniffing around, playing fly on the wall, trying out new things – if I didn’t love that I wouldn’t have turned into a decent spy. That’s why I find the “Dancer’s Day” on the upcoming Saturday particularly tempting: in the Gösserhallen, you cannot only take a look backstage of the hypnotic dance piece “10000 gestes”, but also join in at full tilt – and allow dance gods and goddesses to drive you into trying unusual stuff. Like at the joint warm-up with the pros, at the workshop with choreographer Boris Charmatz, the picnic with the dancers, and the joint resting. At 19:30, “10000 gestes” is being performed, afterwards it’s partying off to the vibes from Djane Electric Indigo before the day, accompanied by bolero sounds to which Boris Charmatz and Emmanuelle Huynh are twisting on stage, slowly draws to an end. Lose yourself in the world of dance for a day, and no, there are no previous skills required at all! Cool, isn’t it?

 A Comic Soul
John Cleese
If a program is called “Last time to see me before I die”, clearly you should jump at the chance ;-) Fans of the British “Fawlty Towers”-legend know that he’s not really serious about it anyway. In his (maybe last) show the legendary comedian and actor leads his audience through a mix of his classics and his newer works, with quite a dash of wickedness and dry humour, as usual. Well, Mr. Cleese could give a eulogy and still have you rolling on the floor with laughter ;-) Like the one he once gave for his “Monty Python”-colleague Graham Chapman, which you can watch here.

Imbalance
Unusual evening at an unusual location. And with that the question: How can you get used to imbalance? How can we deal with imbalance and find stability in instability? The dance company “Pionierinnen”, known for its original productions, perform their piece “Schieflage”  (imbalance) today. And they have a staircase at Danube Island serving as stage! 11 danseuses tip, stagger, lie down crossways, and examine physically what’s possible when you are disbalanced. They challenge you to take an unfamiliar perspective - check out the location here. Free entry.

Kris Kristofferson
It’s a long time ago that the now 81-year-old Kris Kristofferson gave Janis Joplin her only number 1 hit with his song “Me and Bobby McGee”. The legendary singer, songwriter, and actor still appears on stage and wows his audience with his powerful country songs, the charismatic rebel is often called the bard of the disadvantaged and disappointed. Today Kris Kristofferson is in Vienna and he has brought his current album “The Cedar Greek Sessions” with new versions of his best songs 25 along.

Save Tibet Lingka Festival
Tibetans and Viennese natives both are invited to the Tibetan garden festival hosted by the organisation "Save Tibet". An authentic Eastern-Tibetan nomad tent will be put up in the garden, an incense offering ceremony starts off the festival. As for food and drink, they serve fresh Tibetan momos, grilled things and chang beer. If you have the guts, you can try the traditional butter tee (caution: quite the taste of adventure), learn the dice game "Sho" or buy some Tibetan arts and crafts. Highlight of the day are the traditional Cham dances performed by Tibetan monks.

Well, today, dear yoginis, we will roll out our mats in the green grass! Because today, the biggest Open-Air Yoga event in Austria is taking place once again at Augarten. It starts at 14:30 with a joint sun salutation, followed by half-hourly try-out sessions by different yoga studios and their teachers. It’s all free including the final sun set meditation! A jazzy mix of contemporary Korean Pop, Greek tragedy, and traditional music! The visionary director Ong Keng Seng from Singapore stages his ingenious opera about the cruel fate of the women in defeated Troy told by Euripides in the art of “Pansori” – which is a historical Korean genre of musical storytelling. Novi Sad
Hypnotic tunes and hymnic ballads: for more than 25 years already, Novi Sad has had a special place in the indie scene. You likely manage that only with persistence and love for experimenting. Novi Sad mixes jazzy tunes, lyrical melody arches, and rock songs with elements from folk to noise, emphatically intoned by singer Evelyn Blumenau. A sound leading you through emotional ups and downs, as the title of the 10th album “himmel und hölle” (heaven and hell) suggests. Today the brilliant group plays in Floridsdorf. For free! Als ich lernte meinen Hintern zu lieben
The (unloved) backside as a symbol for everything that can make life miserable: lack of self-love, unrealistic expectations, illnesses, misfortune, stress, and sorrow. Now where does that leave the joy of living? Melanie Pignitter knows what she’s writing about in her first book. After a serious illness and 600 days of continuous headaches (what a horror scenario!) she decided to stop whining and win back her happiness and her dreams. With simple tools and her blog “Honigperlen” she gained back her enjoyment of life. Learn more at today’s book presentation!

Women’s Walk in the 15th district
Interesting discovery tour about the female side of Fünfhaus! Art historian Katrin Rummel has focused her attention for today’s neighbourhood walk (for women and about women!) on women who have lived in the 15th district and who are, despite their work and influence, unknown today. The tour is organised by the organisation “Login”, which supports people dealing with poverty, isolation and marginalisation through various activities. It starts off at their club house in Weiglgasse, then follows Sechshauser Straße to Fünfhausgasse and back again.

Resanita – The House as Host
A museum and its plant cover as art object, now that’s something! For that purpose, artists Anita Fuchs and Resa Pernthaller alias „Resanita“, put Kunst Haus Wien under the microscope and analysed “the house as host” in regards to its flora and fauna. The house with its many green areas, designed by Hundertwasser, is of course ideal here ;-) An exhibition shows in what shape the house’s botany is today, 26 years after construction. The artist-duo has documented photographically all the things that grow, blossom, and flourish around here.

L.E.O.-Singalong
It’s not rare that you have the opportunity to warble along at “Letztes Erfreuliches Operntheater” - but not as excessively as this time. Because in June and July, they’re organising summerly sing along events. The audience is presented with the most beautiful arias, duets and terzets by Mozart, Verdi and other luminaries under the direction of local prima donnas and singing stars in such an inviting manner that there’s no holding back. With charm, devotion and a good portion of patience, hobby singing birds are groomed as protagonists of different opera scenes - if it’s as choir member or as extra remains to be seen ;-)

Definitely a place of creativity: self-made paintings on the (partly bare) walls, a sewing machine, a desk full of materials, and unusual single items on the clothes rail. The shared sales space of designer Roswitha Seeber and artist Johanna Schwab also serves as atelier for both of them. This is where they create all works for their respective labels Julie Strom and Portraying Volcanoes. And for their shared brand “told twice”, one of them designs fashion that is painted on, felted or written on by the other. On Thursday from 19:00 they celebrate their one-year-anniversary with music and drinks!

krypt
Vienna can be so cool! You ring at an ordinary, inconspicuous door in the 9th district, descend far down to the underground of Alsergrund – and land in an extravagant bar reminding you of a Hollywood film. The 200-year-old vault has marble Fischgrät-flooring, golden ventilation pipes run through the church-like rooms and the walnut bar takes up several meters in the main room. Despite all this elegance, there’s no dress-code, no guest list, no door men. But friendly barkeepers, excellent cocktails (“Rosebud” is addictive!) and - despite rather loud DJ music - a wonderfully relaxed feeling.
