"Heya Girls!"
I am stuck. After the depressive-rainy weeks of late, I'm in a November mood, although summer is supposedly just about to begin. As an attempt at therapy, I read my book “Baden im Land um Wien” today. For this damn pretty (and useful!) book, I jumped into wildly romantic little rivers, dug myself into the Danube's largest natural sandy beach and let the sun shine on my belly in style in turn-of-the-century baths. And since I’m known for being fond of eating, I also tried out the best beach buffets in the country. And what can I say? The book therapy worked ;-) “Baden im Land um Wien” is the travel guide for summer vacationists and bathing belles – and available for you in bookshops and in our web shop. It contains dozens of destinations in Lower Austria and Burgenland for the perfect swim day – and of course there are lots of insider tips! You can find a sample here. As you can see, summer happiness is right on our doorstep!

Wishing you a cheerful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Opas Diandl
Progressive folk music from baroque to punk rock – with Opas Diandl, traditional music simply sounds different. To be more precise, the crafty troupe packs everything into their alpine folk music that constantly pulsates, flows and swirls: life, love, music. Seriously playful, the five-member organism from South Tyrol and Vorarlberg dances from clear love songs into complex sound worlds. Social themes find their way in as well as fantasy stories from the moment. Intrigued? You can hear this mischievous and courageous melange tonight at the Theater am Spittelberg!

Sharing Water
When the sun kisses our skin with love, there's hardly anything better to do than jumping into the cool water. The series of campaigns “Sharing Water” is a particularly vivid and entertaining reminder of how valuable and in some places rare this is. The Donaukanal swimming club, for example, invites you to a performative bathing walk and talk on the Danube Canal – swimming in the Danube Canal included! In Josefstadt, the search is on for visible and hidden water spots, and at the “Fishbowl” talk, a legal status for bodies of water is discussed – including a triton snail concert!

That fashion is not only about trends but also about history is shown today by the Michelbeuern fashion school at its best! Artwalk palimpsest
It is the end of an era: after 130 years, Anker is finally leaving the famous Anker bread factory. And because we're going to miss the delicious smell of bread, from today until Sunday you can go on a historical exploration tour through the old walls on four Artwalks. With headphones and a microphone, you can follow the experiences of contemporary witnesses, and at eight stations the history of the place is brought to life with photography, art, music, video and drama. Also nice: afterwards you can chat about what you have experienced over craft beer and croissants!

All you need is love
The number of fainting fits they triggered is probably as high as the number of records they sold. Not least, the photographers who captured every step of the Liverpool mushroom heads contributed to Beatlemania. From Peter Brüchmann's never-before-seen reportage of the “Bravo Blitz Tour” to Richard Avedon's psychedelic pop art posters and the outtakes of the legendary Abbey Road cover shoot, WestLicht will be illuminating the most diverse approaches that fuelled their sensational star cult. There's also a jukebox with the greatest hits!

METAMarkt Flea Market
Tally-ho for bargain-huntresses! The METAStadt, which is located far off the city centre, has become one of the coolest event locations in the city – the old brick factory buildings are really cool, after all. And now Austria's biggest flea market can take place here every (!) Sunday again. The hunting ground covers 42,000 sqm including courtyards, old and modern halls. The range extends from hip offers and bargains to real gusto pieces and antiques. And since it's open until 15:00, you can even indulge in sleeping in on the weekend ;-)

Mind out: two days of pure mindfulness! That's what you get at Shambhala from today. It starts today with Qi Gong and Conscious Dance for more mindfulness in spirit and movement. The topic will also be examined from a medical perspective. Tap Dance & Jazz in Concert
Trumpet, bass, drums – and feet! The combination alone arouses curiosity. And rightly so, because today Thomas Marek and band, together with the excellent tap dancer Sandra Kluge, bring a somewhat different jazz performance to the stage. While the musicians let fulminant grooves and elegant swing ring through the Theater Arche (partly improvised!), the only lady of the troupe gives a step performance of the finest kind and makes the music visible. Her moves are so agile and the sounds so playful that you’ll find it really hard to stay seated!

Schönbrunn Palace: Herb Walk
Modern herb witches take note: Away from the imperially designed Orangery garden, Crown Prince garden and Maze, Schönbrunn Palace Park does also house something wild! In the form of ancient medicinal herbs, it bursts out of the cracks of baroque paths and fills the glades of the Gloriette hill with green power. If you want to learn more about this ancient green stuff, you can join herbalist Michael Zisser today off the beaten track to discover the ancient knowledge of wild herbs and be transported back in time to when the park was still an untamed forest.

Victim of male oppression or monstrous seduction machine? In Alban Berg's unfinished opera based on Frank Wedekind's tragedies “Erdgeist” and “Die Büchse der Pandora”, Lulu follows the rise and fall of her lovers until she is murdered by Jack the Ripper. The conductor is Maxime Pascal, with whom you can follow in the footsteps of Alban Berg in Hietzing on a city tour on Tuesday.

Morbus Hysteria
In Austria, which is once again threatened by a shift to the right, there are those who long for the old nation state, while for others the internationalisation of Austria cannot happen fast enough. Everyone thinks they know exactly what is good for us, but the question remains: Do you mean the same thing as I do when I say the same thing? An armada of philosophers has toiled over this question. And the ensemble of the aktionstheater has no solution either. Today's infernal round of texts, music and images proves how funny this whole thing can be, despite all the tragedy!

Stefan Olah: Nicht stürzen
There are places to which we ordinary people have no access. These include the depots of museums, which only very few people are allowed to enter. Architectural photographer Stefan Olah had the privilege and roamed through the depot of the Museum of Natural History for his new series of pictures. In these times of Fake News, AI & Co, he concentrated on the unadulterated and pure. His analogue, unedited photographic works in black and white seem enraptured and unreal. And yet it is reality and tells a story. A singular view on life. Today is the vernissage!

Malarina, David Scheid, Jean Kindler
She is the country's cabaret shooting star. In her award-winning role of the right-wing Austro-Serb, Malarina is undoubtedly considered one of the funniest observers of domestic politics. Today, for the Festwochen satire series “Comish”, she taps into some of her sharp-tongued analyses and new tidbits. In addition, David Scheid remixes and sabotages the codes of high and subculture, and the German-speaking poetry slam champion Jean-Philippe Kindler frees the Federal Republic from neoliberal waterlogging with his stand-up comedy “Repotting Germany". Funny and perceptive!

AfterWork at the farm
Today's country outing to the roots of our food offers you a superb opportunity to look beyond your own nose and into foreign realms. The question of the day: Where can you still find wheat and rye fields in Vienna, actually? And where is the bread grain baked? Answers can be found on a bus excursion to Prentlhof, where you will be visiting the farm's wheat and rye fields. Afterwards, you can see and taste what is made from it at the second stop at the Schrott bakery! PS: Shopping at the Prentlhof farm shop is also on the agenda!

Marc O'Polo Denim
If you crave a little casualness while strolling between Graben and Kärntnerstraße, you should take a detour to the brand-new Marc O'Polo Denim flagship store. With unisex jeans looks, sophisticated cut-outs and ruffles as well as the recently launched line with Kangol, the store is aimed primarily at twentysomethings. However, you will find pretty basics for all ages, and the cool concrete-look interior with jean-blue rock installations and ceiling-high advertising screens is a real eye-catcher!

Der.Die.Das. Heuer
Of course, Heuer on Karlsplatz has been around for a while. But with new chefs and refreshed décor, the cuisine has also been renewed. Technically, you could say: no frills, products only from regional producers, with a lot of fermented food. More emotionally put, this means: it all tastes delicious! Smoked herb mushrooms with mustard and strawberries, venison with turnips and salt lemon or organic porchetta with pickled fennel create pure summer vibes – especially on the large terrace. And because there are no direct neighbours, you can sit outside here until 1:00 in the morning ;-)
