"Heya Girls!"
I have the greatest sympathy for the duchess of Bedford. In the bygone days, she thought the time between lunch and dinner much too long and therefore got into the habit of enjoying a little snack with a cup of tea in the afternoon. Hey presto, she established the tradition of the five o’clock tea, beloved by me. This was in the early eighteenhundredsomethings, and around 1900 already, the afternoon tea had made it all the way to Vienna. At the Grand Hotel it was a regular element of the gastronomic offer back then. You probably saw elegant ladies with huge hats enjoying cucumber sandwiches and Darjeeling and gossiping about the latest scandals. Or allowing equally elegant gentleman to flirt with them. Anyway, they serve five o’clock tea again today at the Grand Hotel. Very British, with finger sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, lime pie, fruit tartelettes, and chocolate mousse. Yes, that’s CitySpotterGirl’s paradise! Now all you need is the elegant gentleman ;-)

Wishing you a tasteful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Annette Kelm
Annette Kelm. Tomato Target
A tomato plant, a 500 euro note, or a rather ugly building – Annette Kelm’s photographs show unassuming yet at the same time fractious motifs. For her pictures, the Stuttgart-born may like to fall back on stylistic genres like still life, studio photography, or the classic architecture shot, but she interprets them in a new and thoroughly original way. The exhibition at Kunsthalle opening today focuses mainly on photographs that present architecture, design or seemingly familiar objects in a subtly alienating manner. Fascinatingly paradox!

Wonderful Town
A Leonard Bernstein treat! “Wonderful Town” is one of the early, lesser-known musicals of the musical universal genius and a wonderfully buoyant homage to New York. Inspired by the frantic Greenwich Village, it’s about 2 sisters from Ohio who are trying to get their bearings in the “Big Apple”. The younger one, Eileen, is busy fending off admirers, while the reserved Ruth is trying unsuccessfully to get her literary works published. The European premiere of this show took place at the Volksoper in 1956, now they are presenting an acclaimed new production.

Piatnik Special Sale
Pssst! Special tip for Christkinds and Christmas ladies: every year again in December, you can snatch low-priced games at Piatnik. At the Christmassy Special Sale, they sell off remaining stock, individual pieces, and slightly damaged games, apart from board games and long runners from DKT to Activity, they also have puzzles and playing cards. And with a bit of luck, you might find some new game hits that are price-reduced due to minor defects. Collectors will also find rarities – and if you enjoy indulging in reminiscences, maybe you’ll even find some games from your childhood.

Bauhaus tanzt
The Bauhaus was founded in 1919 as an art school by Walter Gropius, until today it’s considered to be the home of the avantgarde in design, art, and architecture. For the upcoming 100-year-anniversary, the young artist group “Pop-Up Collective” has created a full-length dance production that is shown at Brick5 today. The room and the Bauhaus-aesthetic play an important role in it. An unusual and multifarious theatre night was developed with dance, music and design, jazzed up with surreal scenes and a dash of humour. On top of that, there will be a Santa gourmand party in the spirit of Bauhaus tomorrow.

X-Mas Art
Phew! You don’t even know where to go first with all those Christmas Markets, pop-ups, and punch charities. The small, fine events are often lost in the bustle. Like this one: a few artists and creative minds have joined forces at an atelier in the 7th district, you can shop there in a relaxed atmosphere, starting today. Doesn’t necessarily have to be for Christmas! You can always just buy some fashion by Pitour for yourself, there’s always a need for pretty mano design ceramics, and the Silverfineart photos and pics by Igor Sapic can just be looked at, too. For today’s opening, there’s “Wine & Dine” with music from 17:00!

No pre-Christmas contemplation today, an ecstatic dance film and a cool party are on the agenda! The place of action is the Gartenbaukino, where they show “Climax” by Gaspar Noé – a cinematic hell ride shot in long takes, filled with unbelievable dance scenes. At the top of the attractive cast is legendary break-dancer Sofia Boutella, the rousing music was ingeniously mixed by the French star DJ Kiddy Smile. And the very same will work live at Gartenbaukino today: they ask you to an excessive “Voguing Ball” after the film!

Gospel Project: Light has come
Heartwarming, spirited, loud, and cheerful: the Viennese Gospel Project isn’t an elite choir but a colourfully mixed bunch of passionate singers who have evolved into one of the best choirs in the country in the last years. During today’s concert, the Gospel singers will be supported by a top-class band and a very big voice: former “Rounder Girl” Kim Cooper presents her own, soul-y gospel songs as a soloist. The evening’s motto: to bring light into the dark time(s). May the mission prove successful, hallelujah!

Organic Honey Tasting from Neuwaldegg
The hardworking Mayas from Karl and Uli Heller’s organic honey farm have covered around 200,000 km again to collect nectar for a single kilo of honey: at the Schwarzenbergpark, the Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark, and at the foot of Rax and Schneeberg, among other areas. You can find out what kind of deliciousness and flavour their effort resulted in at the Manameierei today. And to reveal as much: this year’s Demeter gold from Viennese lime and chestnut blossoms will draw even the laziest Willy from the woodwork! Christmas Market of Volksoper-Family
How original! A bazaar that is much more than that: a get-together with fascinating artists. For today’s Christmas Market, everyone of Wiener Volksoper’s staff comes together – the ensemble as well as all the behind-the-scenes employees. On offer are preserved, knitted, and crocheted stuff, jewellery, liqueurs, home-made delicacies and much more. A few theatre people will be there in person, which means you can openly chat with them or enjoy some punch with them. All the proceeds of the event go to the charity “Künstler helfen Künstlern”.

A plastic-pink madhouse instead of a feel-good hotel: the adventurous team of Bronski & Grünberg has taken on the comedy classic and transported it into the present. The plot: independent gentleman Philipp Klapproth visits the evening party of a sanatorium in Vienna – only it isn’t one but rather the acclaimed guest house Schöller with its quirky guests. A feminist playwright, a young actor with speech impediment, a foreign correspondent with a passion for lion hunting, plus a choleric Major. Just the normal everyday madness and super funny!

 Les Reines Prochaines
Les Reines Prochaines
Huzza! Off to the Dadaistic-feminist “Schildkrötenritt”! That’s the name of the new program by the borderline ingenious Swiss women’s band “Les Reines Prochaines”. They are already as old as Methuselah, they want to grow old like turtles (“Schildkröten”) and so they set off to a musical journey through profane life, evoking the advantages of old age. Depending on the mood, Fränzi, Muda and Sus sound jazzy, folksy, melodious and minimalist, they tell stories and perform body poems. Now if you have no idea what that might look like – never mind, go and experience it live!

 MAK
Koloman Moser
The variety of art that universal genius Koloman Moser has created during his life is pretty impressive. To commemorate the centennial of his death, the MAK is dedicating the most comprehensive solo show to date to the great visionary of the Wiener Moderne and inspired artist. This is the first time that many of the 500 or so exhibits, largely taken from the MAK Collection, have been made accessible to the public. Structured chronologically, the MAK exhibition retraces every step of Moser’s unusual career: from painter to all-round designer and finally back to painting. Vernissage is today!

Artists wrap presents
It has allegedly happened that presentees didn’t want to open their gifts. That’s how artfully designed, unusually bizarre, and most original the presents look that you can get wrapped by young artists until 23 December. Today between 13:00 and 17:00, you can bring your present to Franke Leuchten at Westbahnstraße 5, where it will be enwrapped artfully. The wrapping does matter after all!

With Christmas stress reaching epidemic proportions, how about a relaxing glass of punch at a magical place as remedy? Makaro
Before Hanna founded the label Makaro together with her boyfriend, she just couldn’t find good quality gold jewellery at acceptable prices. So she started designing delicate pieces of gold jewellery herself. The kicker: there is a two-year guarantee for the gilded bracelets, ear studs, rings and necklaces, and apparently, that’s how long they will keep their noble colour (at least). Cute mini bracelets can be bought from 17€ already, rings with individual engraving from 49 €. And you can try on everything in the recently opened, glaringly bright Makaro store!
