"Heya Girls!"
Sometimes, women’s biographies take detours and turn-offs that are so funny that you just have to smile. Vienna’s only lingerie custom-tailoress Barbara Boll did the same. Originally, the passionate body-expert studied Musicology! But when they ceased production of her favourite bra, the doctor was puzzling over the perfect substitute until her “busty star” was born and she started up her own lingerie studio in 2011. Since then the newcomer has been wrapping our female bodies, which often suffer from self-doubts, in perfectly fitting and beautiful bras and slips, in which busty Michelangelo muses feel equally comfortable as athletic Klimt graces. The handwork has its price, of course, after all, the custom-made bra requires 4 fittings alone. But there’s hope in the world of curves: On the third Saturday of every month Barbara Boll holds a full-day workshop in which participants produce their own model for 180 €! Next chance: this Saturday. And once a month, they also sew slips ;-)

Wishing you a lovely week

 Caterina Valente
Valiente meets Valente
Bye bye Bambina: It’s hailing catchy tunes! Because the Argentinian singer Alex Valiente is staging the very great hits of her favourite idol and near name twin Caterina Valente. This makes not only Paris but also Vienna dream of love and, while humming “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie...“, we swing back to the 50s. At the time when the 1931-born Schlager entertainer with Italo-temperament-roots satisfied the universal longing for distant parts. A cult evening full of romance, nostalgia and definitely a lot of fun!

Fascial Workshop
After yoga slacking, qigong in salty air and Pilardio yet another new fitness trend is conjuring vitality and smoothness into permanently stressed bone frames: fascial training! We’re talking about hardening and doing up one’s endogenous connective tissue, which runs throughout our body like a net and holds it together – provided that it is regularly stimulated and properly stretched. In a 3-hour-workshop today, the health coaches Sabine Polterauer and Silvia Stary will demonstrate how fascial training works and how it helps women to stay fit and supple, lots of exercises included. Don’t forget to bring your fitness wear.

Vienna Coffee Festival
No, it’s not about beer! For one weekend, people will excessively consume caffeine instead of hop and malt in the Ottakringer brewery. Vienna’s traditional and Vienna’s ultra hip coffee house scene celebrate their “black gold”, and on four floors they present loads of useful, innovative and entertaining facts about the bean. People may talk shop about roast and preparation techniques, bean and water quality. But there’ll also be free tastings, exciting workshops, music highlights and a delicious Lazy Sunday Coffee Brunch. A weekend with addiction potential.

Celia Mara: Viva 2016
She is the “punker of world music”! The Brazilian exceptional artist with her powerful black voice, socio-critical lyrics and her daring mix of all possible styles makes a guest appearance in Fania tonight. Her repertoire of Brazilian power, reggae beats, jazz, tango and Balkan folklore will create a wild dancing mood and a true multicultural flair. She’ll sing her self-penned songs - poetically, rebellious, interpreted in a planetary way… Because when one of the most impressing Latin front ladies between Brazil and the Balkans lets off her bastard sounds, no one will remain seated!

A chat with Sophie Freud
Probably, only very few people who knew Sigmund Freud personally are still alive today. His granddaughter Sophie Freud is one of them – she knew the founding father of psychoanalysis personally, however, in 1938, when she was 14, she fled to the USA with her mother, while the rest of the family immigrated to London. Today, the graduate social pedagogue, psychologist and author visits Vienna and critically and closely reflects her experiences with her grandfather and the disputes with the Freud family. An exciting first-hand piece of female contemporary history!

Otto-Wagner church from above
The pompous Art Nouveau building, which sparkles down the Gallitzinberg, is visible even from Vienna. Initially, the church at Steinhof - which was constructed in 1904 as a “gift” from Emperor Franz Joseph to the patients of the then largest and modernest lunatic asylum in Europe - was thought to have a more baroque appearance. But the genius architect Otto Wagner had other plans :-) In a one-hour guided tour on Sundays interested people now have the chance to walk up the circular stairs to the upper choir, follow Adam and Eva close into the stained glass windows paradise and enjoy breath-taking panoramic views!

Fitness for office potatoes
Aha, there’s a new word for people like the CitySpotterGirl: office potatoes. They don’t move away from their desk all day and stare at some kind of screen. And one day, muscles and joints will hit the wall. This is where personal coach Sigrid Markl comes into play. In her lecture today she provides the audience with information and facts on the most important “predetermined breaking points” of the body, on what may where cause troubles and why – and she demonstrates effective preventive measures that can easily be practiced in the office. You’d better wear comfortable clothes and bring along an exercise mat.

Too foolish to be old
“We were born for each other. We just noticed it very late.” This is what Otto Schenk says about his soul mate and joking partner Michael Niavarani. And since they’d never made it to meet privately for a coffee, they decided to come close to each other on stage, even so close that they can step on the other’s toes. When seated, of course. In sardonic coffee house chats and trenchant thunderstorms of gags they wallow in memories, philosophise and improvise to their hearts’ content. With 130 years of humour and life experience they are a dream team when it comes to master class fooling around.

The smile of women
Spooky! Totally carelessly, the French restaurateur Aurelie Bredin reads the novel “The smile of women” and suddenly she notices that each detail and each line of the novel is exclusively and exactly about of her own life! In order to unravel the mystery, she spontaneously decides to date the author. Who happens to be successful, good-looking and single (smile), but first she has to get past the arrogant-smarmy editor. Love troubles and bursts of laughter are guaranteed! An amusing after work slapstick comedy with Ruth Brauer-Kvam and Alexander Pschill.

Betty O – dialect songs
She is loud, funny and she definitely has the gift of gab when it comes to singing and performing: the Styrian singer-songwriter and former musical performer Betty O. After her successful solo debut last autumn her crystal clear voice and her wild dialect that may sound like double Dutch will once again enchant Viennese eyes and ears tonight. When singing about “Land und Leit“, pondering on “Holb Vull Holb leer“ and searching for the “Schlissl zum Glick“ the bundle of energy accompanies herself on the piano. A cool mix of Schlager, nursery rhymes and Austro chanson. Listen here.

La Hong & Fin de Siècle fashion
Sense of beauty in the course of time: fashion designer Nhut La Hong takes you on a guided tour through the exhibition “Klimt/Schiele/Kokoschka“ in the Belvedere today and talks about his personal approach to the art at the turn of the century. The trained eye of the Viennese star designer with Vietnamese roots is particularly directed at the fashion trends of the time and at how the image of the “femme fatale“ has changed since then. Carmen Electra in an innocent frill Fin de Siècle dress would probably have disappointed her fans at the opera ball ;-) Reduced prices if you are fan on Facebook.

Sorgsam Street-Shop
Bags made of rice growing nets in Cambodia, fine soaps from a manufactory in Marseille or pearl jewellery crocheted in the framework of a women’s project in Togo – the varied product range in Sonja Walleczek’s store comes from many corners of the world. Everything is carefully produced and selected, the idea was born when the polyglot owner was on a trip through Cambodia. Initially, the Sorgsam products were only available online, now also in a proper shop. And that’s good, since the items, such as the bamboo crockery – biodegradable and dishwasher-safe – are so nice that you want to carry them right home.

Guerilla Bakery
It started a few years ago: With their guerrilla baking actions at their place the sisters Sarah, Isabel and Vanessa from Vorarlberg spoiled sweet teeth with cake & co. The three of them soon started to expand their collective baking into restaurants, museums and events. This week the active trio eventually settled down in the fourth district. On the turquoise-tiled cake counter freshly baked goodies such as sinful chestnut tarts or juicy lime gugelhupf, plus a daily warm lunch lure hungry guests. And the idyllic inner court terrace gives hope for open-air cake session as of spring. Gooood prospects!
