"Heya Girls!"
Have you already caught Kondo fever, too? In London, there’s only one topic right now (no, not Brexit, which is being blocked out in an almost surreal manner): Marie Kondo is the talk of the town. Just like in New York, Tokyo, and Munich, by the way. Marie Kondo is a young Japanese housewife who knows how to tidy up. On her iconic Netflix show and in books, she shows people how to declutter their lives and only surround themselves with things that delight them. “Sparking joy” is what Marie calls it and rejoices in every disposed T-shirt. Obviously, there are many people in this country who don’t yet kondo. And have to rent a self-storage unit when their four walls burst with abundance. MUSA has now dedicated a new exhibition to precisely this phenomenon. “Where Things Live” will portray self-storage users in front of their treasures from 13 February. Which is also iconic though ;-)

For 3 days, the ROEE Atelier opens its gates for an unusual flea market. Fashionistas and penny pinchers with a penchant for designer fashion will get shining eyes: they sell off sought-after finds, samples, prototypes, and it-pieces by young designers from fashion, lingerie, and accessories. Aside from fashion by ROEE, you find dressing stuff from YAGA, Uhrleiwand, Vice Coop Design, Kathrin Mayer, Landkinder – and wonderful underwear by Körbchen. Surf Film Night with „Momentum Generation”
Attention, here comes a giant wave of brilliant film craziness washing ashore! In the year 1992, the film “Momentum” portrayed a group of young men who forever shaped surfing: Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Shane Dorian, Kalani Robb. 26 years later, producer Robert Redford takes us back to this fateful winter in Hawaii. “Momentum Generation” is a contemporary document featuring never-before-seen archive footage that brings the spirit, the spectacular surfing, and the conflicts of the most influential surf crew ever to the screen for the first time. Swelltime Party: A Mad Men Night Out

For one night, the cinema’s foyer turns into a dance salon of the 50s and 60s. Losar: Tibetan New Year
The year of the dog is history, welcome to the year of the earth-pig! Because the Tibetan year no. 2,146 starts now. “Losar”, the Tibetan New Year, has been celebrated for more than 2,100 years (since the enthronement of the first king Nyatri Tsempo) – and is also celebrated properly at the Don Bosco Haus with songs and burning incense today. Art Installation at Karlskirche
It’s certainly rather unusual that CitySpotterGirl urges you to go to church. But please, go to Karlskirche! Because as part of an art project, 2 huge spherical sculptures are hanging in the magnificent baroque dome until the end of the year there. Really worth seeing! The mirrored, air-filled mega things have a diameter of more than 10m and 7m respectively and are an installation by the Argentinean artist Tomas Saraceno. The cool “Aerocene” globes are the first project in the programme Karlskirche Contemporary Arts, more are to follow.

The Illusionists Live
The most successful magic show in Broadway history is coming to Austria. It’s going to be quite a spectacle when Master Magician Luis De Matos, James “the Deceptionist” More, Enzo the Unforgettable, Escapologist Andrew Basso, Yu Ho-Jin (the Manipulator!), and the Inventor Kevin James rock the stage. The magicians read other people’s minds, levitate in thin air or simply disappear into nothingness. You might especially look forward to James More – who tricked Ellen DeGeneres live on her own show. Pretty astonishing!

Lamps from upcycling material
Ask the cable guy! Helmut Drucker is a trained electrician and artist. He has years of experience with repairs and upcycling and designs highly original lamps himself. At Recycling Kosmos, he will demonstrate how to build lamps using upcycling material today. For this, you can bring your own materials or some old lamps as well. The cable guy will provide all sorts of tips for the realisation and advice on the work steps. He will explain how to realise a lamp idea or how to remodel an item into a lamp. And of course he will also bring tools and incidentals.

Petz: culinary friendly game
Yes, these are really good news for gourmets. After having closed his fancy pub “Petz im Gußhaus” last autumn, Christian Petz is now back in his favourite place: the kitchen. Until the end of June, he is guest-starring at the Hotel Ritz-Carlton, or more accurately, at the Dstrikt Steakhouse. With dishes like Vitello Dorschato or Milzagnolotti in sage butter, his big fan base can look forward to some classics of his „Nose to Tail” cuisine – Monday to Friday for dinner from 18:00. Apart from steaks, they serve contemporary interpretations of Austrian cuisine at the highest level.

Schmieds Puls Solo
You normally think of Schmieds Puls as a trio. But strictly speaking, Mira Lu Kovacs has been Schmieds Puls since 2013. It’s the name she writes and sings under, accessing her innermost core and presenting it to the world in song format. Today – for the first time in many years – Schmieds Puls appears not as a trio but focuses entirely on the role of songwriter with her guitar – just like at the start of her career. “Some songs practically require being played alone,” says Mira. And if you check this out, you have to admit that she is right. It is going to be a nice evening!

World Cancer Day
In the past fifteen years, cancer has developed from a fatal to a chronic illness. On the one hand, new medication and new forms of therapy (for example for breast- and blood cancer) bring hope, but they also present doctors and patients with new challenges. Today on Vienna Cancer Day, you can get first-hand information from top medical professionals at Rathaus. There are special talks on blood cancer, lung cancer, and intestinal cancer, for example. Bringing together meditation and dance? Sounds like the perfect wake-up programme! With “Soul Motion”, you simply follow you own body’s impulses, supported by selected music, but entirely without choreography. The first 15 minutes are dedicated to arriving, then the session is started together in silence. It is then followed by a longer musical sequence where everyone can move as the whim takes them, which is once again finished in joint silence. Lies mein Herz
It was a difficult and desperately beautiful love that Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan shared – the two most important German-speaking poets after 1945. The publication of their exchange of letters has allowed readers an insight into the intensity of this love. “We love one another like poppy and memory, we slumber like wine in the seashells”, Celan wrote in his poem “Corona”. An intense stage production now brings the letters, the harrowing struggle for words, the endless silence, and the fight for the love and friendship of the other to the stage.

Little Italy at Aumannplatz: a new, small bar awakens Italy-holiday feelings in Währing. There’s some music about amore, bella vita and mare playing from the jukeboxes, you sit at the bar or at small desks, and the menu features typically Italian snacks only: the best coffee with original Italian roasting, aranciata, san pellegrino, campari soda, birra pironi, vini della casa, sughi di frutta, dolci and small snacks. For breakfast you take a “cornetto con crema”, at night you enjoy an “aperitivo moderno”. It’s also neat to sit up in the gallery, like in a retro living room!
