"Heya Girls!"
In 1569, Emperor Maximilian II purchased Katterburg, laying not only the foundation for the park of Schönbrunn but also for its notable plant collections. For hundreds of years, botanists and gardeners travelled to faraway countries by order of the hoarding-obsessed Habsburgs to bring back large quantities of new plants to Vienna. Finally, the collection was extensive that it had outgrown Schönbrunn and parts of it had to be placed in Augarten, at the Belvedere, and in the Hofburg Gardens. What few people know: miraculously, a larger part of these plants has been preserved until today! By now, the rarities are treasured and nurtured by Österreichische Bundesgärten – and the gardeners now open their “Grüne Schatzkammer” (Green Treasury) for the collection’s 450-year anniversary. The valuables will be presented in a variety of exhibitions and lectures in 2019. Including – like at present – plants that are extinct in their natural environment.

 Toy_Box
Toy_Box: Graue Schleier über der Stadt
Cool feminist art from Prague: From today, the techno-anarchist artist Toy_Box shows her works at the Czech Centre. The Czech artist borrowed her pseudonym from Alan Moore’s iconic comic “Top 10”. Her exhibition in Vienna combines new works with older ones, especially drawings and paintings, placed in the entire room in a multi-layered installation. The thematic focus is on uprooting, intolerance, homelessness, and animal suffering. Her expressive works are documentary, at times naturalistic as well, and always straightforward. Vernissage is today!

 Wiener Kriminalitaeten Theater
Whodunit?
The Spektakel as scene of the crime: murderesses are being brought to life there today. Not “real” ones, though, but literary models: for the Viennese Kriminalitaeten Theater shows dramatised scenes from thrillers and crime novels, in cooperation with “Mörderische Schwestern” (a club promoting German-speaking crime literature written by women). Four actors and actresses bring scenes from several crime novels to the stage and make the respective works palatable for readers. That is why they don’t necessarily tell you whodunit ;-)

Wax Wrap Workshop
They make you save tons of aluminium foil and cling film and are much prettier: self-made wax cloth wraps! In today’s short workshop you can learn how to coat cotton fabric squares with wonderfully scented beeswax or plant-based rape wax in order to make them into re-usable wrapping cloths and coverings. The beeswax things are breathable and have an antibacterial, biocidal effect reducing mould formation. Meaning you won’t just decrease your amount of packaging waste, but the foodstuffs can also be preserved for a longer time. Quite brilliant!

For tango dancers and those with ambitions in this area: the iconic Arena Bar in Margareten is hosting a tango night today. With a concert and a preceding free dance-workshop! The “Naama Trio” around singer Naama Isabelle Fassbinder takes you on a passionate musical journey, starting with Yiddish, German, and French tangos from the 1930s to Argentinean ones by Astor Piazzolla all the way to Goran Bregovic’s “Underground Tango”. And the atmosphere there is amazing: because the Arena Bar is furnished in the Spanish style of the 1950s.

It travels the outer Ring anticlockwise via Schwedenplatz to Schottentor, where it turns around and goes back to Karlsplatz. Women’s Power Day at Crossbox
Not for Sunday-couch potatoes! At today’s Ladies Day, you sweat and power together as much as the muscles can take in the parking area of the fitness centre Crossbox in Floridsdorf. You can pump iron at several stations, partly in somewhat unconventional ways, like tossing car tyres, “Farmer’s Walk” or pulling iron bars. Guided and motivated by Crossbox boss Marlis Hochwarter, you can explore your own limits. Things are in no way dead serious and not overambitious, either. It doesn’t matter at all how fit or old you are!

Kalvarienbergfest
For more than 350 years, a real „Lent’s Market” was celebrated at Kalvarienberg in Hernals. Unfortunately, this nostalgic-colourful event came to an end a few years ago, but never mind - now there is the “Kalvarienberg-Fest”. For almost 3 weeks, the seasonably decorated square offers a range of local cultural events: concerts from Soul to Wiener Lied, different exhibitions in an artist’s tent every day, demonstrations of craftsmanship like woodturning and workshops – not only Easter-themed ones but also ones on oil painting, beatboxing and jazz. There is a tent offering protection from bad weather!

Bob Dylan
That he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature is just one of the many facets in the life of Bob Dylan. From Self-Protection to Autoimmunity
Everyone knows that it’s our immune system’s job to protect our body from diseases and to defend it against harmful bacteria and viruses. But how exactly does that work in detail? What can we do for our endogenous defence system? And what actually happens when the immune system acts up and suddenly turns on the body’s own cells and organs? At today’s free lecture, an immunologist and a specialist for internal medicine explain the complex role of our immune system and describe how and why autoimmune diseases develop.

 Bronski & Grünberg
Schuld & Sühne
When Alexander Pschill and Kaya Dimicki talk about their newest production, the artist couple goes into raptures. “Schuld & Sühne” (Crime & Punishment) is the biggest production ever seen by the small Bronski & Grünberg theatre, after all. On a stage that seems too small for it, 14 actors and actresses carry you off into the complex world of the murderer Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov, created by the pen of Dostoevsky. The Russian psychological thriller set in the 19th century is turned into a comedy, but not exclusively – for labels have no business at the Bronski!

Organic Vitalkaffee Tasting
This will have caffeine junkies prick up their ears: coffee can be beneficial for the immune system and doesn’t necessarily acidifies the body, either. However, it is important what kind of coffee your slurp. If you want to do coffee in a healthy way, you might want to try organic Vitalkaffee from an Upper-Austrian roast house, which you can taste for free today at a reformstark shop. Not only is it alkaline and particularly digestible because of the gentle roasting process, but it’s also pimped with two highly effective biological TCM-medicinal mushrooms strengthening the immune system. Only just opened but full to bursting every night: the craft brewery by owner Igor Nesterenko has apparently been missing in Margareten.
