"Heya Girls!"
Okay, we cannot compete with cities such as Amsterdam or Copenhagen yet. But slowly, slowly Vienna is turning into a bicycle city. What a pity that, after my seventh (!) bike was stolen, I vowed to never again buy one. So, and here comes a Start Up and just wipes out my oath. The Veloclub is a practical idea: Instead of spending huge sums of money on an expensive bike, you just rent a bicycle, service included. Members of the Veloclub get a premium city bike (retro-style) or a racing cycle of the Dutch brand Lekker for 25 €/month. Lock, carrier and welcome box are also part of the package. And you only pay from March to October and thus cycle for free for four month in winter. (If necessary you can also park the bike in the Veloclub in winter.) And thanks to the “Concierge-Service“, members don’t have to care about bike service, this is done by the club. In case of a breakdown, the bike is picked up personally, repaired and brought back to its user within only a few days. No more worries about mending, halleluja!

Wishing you a smart week

Open House: Yoga and mindfulness
Anusara, Kundalina, Iyengar – it’s not easy at all to choose one of the many Yoga styles. At Shambhala you have the chance to try out different forms of Yoga in 40-minute taster sessions for free this evening. Ranging from soft Yoga to women-power-strengthening Luna Yoga including fertility dances up to flowing-meditative TriYoga, the choice definitely offers something for every taste. You can take regular classes in each style at Shambhala. And since Yogis don’t get around the subject anyways, Walter Klocker holds a presentation on the power of mindfulness.

One could call it the full monty! For four days, Austria’s largest international art fair presents an overview of current trends in art in the Marx Halle - very big, very modern and very cool. 112 galleries from 28 countries take part, more than 500 artists are presented. The greatest surprise factor is to be found in “Zone 1”, were young, (still) unknown Austrians are introduced. Another must are the “Nordic Highlights” with galleries from Finland, Sweden and Norway. And the guided tours provide “newbies” with a down-to-earth and pleasant approach to contemporary art.

A literary-historical tour through the oldest commercial area in town: Midmorning, Elisabeth-Joe Harriet leads through the Golden Quarter. Around Bogner- and Seitzergasse, Tuchlauben and Am Hof you can discover the once largest restaurant in the world, a former knight tournament site or the historical counterpart to Scrooge McDuck’s Money Bin. Street festival in Herrengasse
Yeah, today we dance on the street! In fact, on a street where normally nothing is going on! The dignified Herrengasse will turn into a traffic-calmed shared space zone and today the completion of the first part is celebrated. The band ESPR!music fills the lane with dance music, a DJ contest is held at the turntables and Egon Schiele beer and Viennese gin samples ensure more ease when shaking ;-) Shops such as United Nude Flaghip Store are open till 10 pm. Speaking of nude: The motto is “It doesn't matter what you wear - just as long as you are there!”

Coffee house flea market
This might be a good opportunity to shop original stuff and to stock up on tableware! Because for the Viennese coffee house flea market, the grand cafes and coffee roasters of the city emptied their cupboards, stocks and cellars and brought their treasures to the traditional premises of the Julius Meinl coffee roast house. Here you can make good bargains until the afternoon, because the offered goods – tableware, worn-out chairs, old coffee machines – are sold at surprisingly low prices. Amongst the participants: Cafe Landtmann, Cafe Hofburg, Cafe Mozart and Demmers Teehaus.

Trisha Brown Dance Company
Wow, the MuseumsQuartier once again comes up with something spectacular today! On the occasion of the Tanzquartier season opening, a dancer will walk down the façade of the Leopold Museum, starting at the roof edge. Obviously, he’ll not just walk but move gracefully according to a choreography by Trisha Brown. And afterwards, the Trisha Brown Dance Company will dance through the MQ courts and perform a fine selection of the “Early Works” of their master. Before the dance performance, painting is on the agenda – with a colour-splashed skateboard. The Russian artist Elena Mildner colours a canvas with her “Live Drive“ moves. Also cool!

Thomas Raab: Der Metzger
For the few of you who might not know it: Thomas Raab’s series-investigator – the Butcher (German: “Metzger”) – is actually not a butcher, that’s just his name. But the new Metzger crime story is about a real butcher – and about the literature scene. That’s Hansi Woplatek’s fault, the son of the furniture restorer Willibald Adrian Metzger’s favourite butcher’s. Bringing disgrace on his father, the boy doesn’t want to fillet beef, but write. Raab, the handsome bestseller author, presents his new hit thriller about sausage producers, an author cut-into-pieces and other scandals at Rabenhof tonight. Bloody, but funny!

One bar, two men, lovesickness – and music from Dean Martin to Frank Sinatra. These are the ingredients for a gorgeously amusing evening with Martin Oberhauser and Chris Oliver who are celebrating premiere with their joint music programme tonight. Oliver, a guy in the prime of his life, was abandoned by his wife and seeks refuge in a bar. There he meets barkeeper Martin who turns out to be a good listener. Because Martin is also disappointed by women and by love. And they share their love for swing – and so they sing and swing with great voices on the rollercoaster of feelings. Yes, that's life!

Circus Roncalli
If you think that pole dance is just for almost-naked women, you should urgently proceed to Circus Roncalli – the young men of the “Circustheater Bingo“ performing at the rods are absolutely sensational. Other than that, the anniversary tour “40 years Journey to the rainbow” is poetic as ever. Using the simplest tools, acrobats, clown and trapeze artists take the audience into a dreamy parallel world. The two daughters of circus director Bernhard Paul also perform their own acts and the beat boxer Robert Wicke gives the show an almost “modern” touch.

La Hong and Fin de Siècle fashion
A nice goodie for fashionistas: In an exclusive tour together with the exhibition curator Alexander Klee, the designer La Hong takes the visitors through the exhibition “Sin and Secession - Franz von Stuck in Vienna”. The tour starts – of course! - with a champagne reception, then La Hong talks about his very personal approach to the art at the turn of the century as well as his fascination and inspiration about and of this era. The guided tour also shows the parallels of today’s fashion and style trends with the aesthetics and the sense of beauty at the Fin de Siècle. And the historical expertise of the curator makes the tour even more interesting.

The virtuous Crossover ensemble Folksmilch primarily stands out through their crazy performances and their incomparable sound. And on top, the pretty guys are really funny! Be it their self-composed jazz or folk songs, schlager in hip hop style or Falco songs interpreted in music cabaret style – everything the trio produces with (speech) song and the sounds of accordion, violin and double bass is simply brilliant. Concordia Schlössl
Each town needs its scurrilities, somehow. Vienna has the Concordia Schlössl. The romantic restaurant is located directly opposite the Central Cemetery, used to be the exhibition hall of a gravestone manufacturer and during the last years it was a restaurant serving dubious huge Schnitzl variations. But still: even Vivienne Westwood and Helmut Newton fell for the charming “Schlössl”. After a change of ownership in spring the run-down house was finally renovated – subtle, gentle, without destroying the patina. Schnitzl are still served, but made of better ingredients (thanks!) – and the cosy place comes back to life!
