editorial

"Heya Girls!"
Ladies, we have to learn an Arabic word today in order to understand the following super-women’s-project from Marrakech and appreciate it accordingly. The word is “alnour” and means “light”. Moreover it’s also the name of the Moroccan handicraft association founded in 2013, in which physically impaired women embroider clothing, fashion accessories and home accessories. So Alnour does indeed bring light into the social-economic Marrakech darkness, where woman and work don’t really go together anyway. But apart from the glimmer of hope in the matter of female employment and education, the textiles produced are really pretty and shine all the way to Vienna this weekend! Alnour makes camp at the Wintermarkt at Safran & Cie for three days and lightens the domestic woman’s heart with the finest table lines and bedclothes, delightful tops, scarves, bags and cushions. All made from cotton or linen and with hand-embroidered Fassi, trout or polka-dot ornaments. There’s always a little light :-)

Wishing you a radiant week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Cari Cari
Stephanie Widmer and Alexander Köck – the two pretty heads behind music-duo Cari Cari – are definitely on international star level! Not only were they named mega-hot Newcomers 2019 by Rolling Stone Magazine, they also regularly wow the audience with their performances from Australia to Portugal. By their own accounts, the band was founded to impress Quentin Tarantino. And to be entirely honest, that’s the very kind of film where both of them should musically and visually play leading roles. Today: live gig with songs from their album Anaana at the Konzerthaus!

PJ Harvey Documentary
Just to get this out of the way: CitySpotterGirl is a huge fan of the British alternative singer and songwriter! Yes, that’s due to her music, which is at the same time harsh and loud, then tender and beautiful. But also due to her courage, her passion, her women’s power which can be heard in it. She travelled all the way to Afghanistan for “The Hope Six Demolition Project” to gather inspirational political material – and this, too, can be heard and felt! Now the documentary about this can be seen in cinemas. “A Dog Called Money” is the name of the film, full women’s speed ahead the motto! Today is the release.

When textile artist and Angewandte graduate Caren Shen dares to take on wrinkles, then they are 1) of a textile nature and 2) make women more attractive instead of older! Now her newest folding-fashion-designs can be admired at Textilgalerie in the 18th district for two days – and be bought. The ultra-chic, artfully pleated tops, trousers and flowing dresses can all be wrapped around the body in different ways and be re-draped every time. 31 refined models in many changing-colours (iridescent ones, at that) are to be checked out. “nackt”
Today is the end of “too fat, too saggy, too old”! If you want to (finally) make peace with your body, dash to the all-day workshop by “nackt”-author Katrin Jonas. She has only recently presented her – very smart – “The body-reconciliation book for women”. Today she goes one better with the matching “nackt”-workshop! Obviously, you don’t actually have to get naked for it, instead you will get to know different consciousness and meditation exercises that will tenderly beam you back into your body! And the three typical women-crises: eating, figure and sex are in for it, too.

Thrones! in Viennese
It doesn’t get much crazier and funnier than this! As of now, Kabarett Simpl will present series-sensation Game of Thrones as a Viennese musical-interpretation. But that’s not all! They will show 8 seasons in 2 hours, 6 actors and actresses in 53 roles. And anyway, producer Michael Niavarani will dish pretty much everything that this fantasy-wall-murder-incest-and-love butchering (with non-happy ending, grin) needs: horses, swords, white zombies – the guy even claims to have gotten hold of a dragon … Winter is coming to the Kabarett Simpl!

RIFF-RAFF at Studio Leander Kaiser
Here, too, they slide into Advent in a relaxed way – and in a very artsy manner. Today, Leander Kaiser and his artist friends invite you to his studio where you can, only today, purchase some true individual pieces. For example, the colour-screen printing compositions on wool-, silk- and pleated scarfs by Ursi Fürtler. Or lebkuchen from Katharina Fröhlich, which are decorated with old mom-patterns (almost too pretty for eating). Johanna Kölbl is there with wow!-like art deco- and ethnic jewellery, and the host himself will bring litho and art books!

Hietzing Winter-Pop-up
If you slowly want to get into Advent and Christmas mood, there is an opportunity for it today in Hietzing, and a pleasant-non-kitschy one at that. Joining are, for example: the label tunibelle with cheerfully-colourful pompon wristbands, minibag with urban clutches, Crossbodybags and wallets or Mariella Habsburg with funny serving trolleys.

16 Days About Violence Against Women
Today’s the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. And this concerns every single one of us, not matter how young, old, affected or not (yet). In Austria, one in five women has been exposed to physical violence, one in three experiences sexual harassment, one in seven is stalked! From 25 November to 10 December, there are many ways to fight this! F. e. today at 16:00: lecture series “Eine von 5” where talks, films and art focus on violence against old women. At 13:30: demonstration at Minoritenplatz, at 17:00: opening of an exhibition. Ergo ladies, join in!

 Tipsy Elves
Ugly Christmas Sweaters
OMG! With these Christmas sweaters you could embarrass yourself even more than film-klutz Bridget Jones, who once stuttered around in a similar knit-monstrosity in front of her prince charming Mark Darcy. The iconic US label Tipsy Elves really does go all out with its deliberately cheesy Christmas designs – from a cat with Santa hat to a huge golden ribbon and elks in less than Christian positions. Now the droll scary-sweaters can be purchased at a stand at the Spittelberg Christmas market. It only remains to ask: when to wear it and who to gift with it?

Stefanie Heinzmann
Tonight at WUK, a good and chilled dance mood is in the air. That is 100% due to the Swiss pop and rock singer Stefanie Heinzmann, who will give a powerful comeback with a new album after a three-year break. The work of wonder by the 29-year-old, easy-going-unagitated artist is called “All You Need Is Love” but if you think of kitschy weepies now, you would be wrong ;-) She rather warbles lines like “I take my chances” or “Every Day is a Good Day” with self-confidence. Tonight she will perform her catchy dance-pop songs live at WUK, you can listen in beforehand here!

 My Place
Donation Campaign MyPlace
After the success in previous years, the storage lessor collects Christmas donations again for the campaign “Weihnachtsfreude weitergeben” in support of the Wiener Tafel. Until 13 December, all MyPlace locations have set up special storage compartments – there, long-lasting food (like rice, pasta, oil, sugar, canned foods, coffee), hygiene articles in original packaging (like shower gel and shampoo) and baby products (like diapers and care products) can be donated to. The Wiener Tafel then distributes the collected donations to those affected by poverty and their children.

Live audio play „Schau, hier liegt ein ...Mut!“
Lots of generosity, buoyancy, and bravery are spreading today at magdas Hotel. The speaking choir-ensemble of Bruno Pisek hosts a live audio play with mic, speakers, and all the trimmings. At the centre of the stories that are told: a cleaning squad that sweeps up all kinds of found objects on a pedestrian bridge. For instance, a poem by Evelyn Holloway as message in a bottle here, then a notepad by Armin Baumgartner which he actually lost in real life too. With every find, a bravery episode reaches the surface and the ear. It’s all with music – and multilingual.

Lady Bluetooth. Hedy Lamarr
Surely the Jewish Museum is bursting at the seams! For since today, there is a big show dedicated to the colourful and multi-faceted life of Hedy Lamarr. Just the inventions of the top scientist – like the frequency hopping which Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are based on – would fill five rooms. However, space is also needed for her glamorous existence as film goddess, her unhappy marital years plus the escape to Hollywood and the tragic hermit ending. During her entire life, she was considered the most beautiful woman in the world, although she was also the smartest. The exhibition highlights that as well :-)

O io Poke
There’s no end in sight for the Poke Bowl trend, it seems that the bowls full of healthy foods will stay with us for some time. Just around the corner of Mariahilfer Straße, another bowl venue – inspired by the favourite food of Hawaiian fishermen – has opened. And there are 2 things that separate it from the other similar venues in Vienna. First, you can actually eat there, instead of two mini stand-up tables, the pretty venue offers enough space plus even a gallery. And second, the bowls here are bigger than anywhere else. Their content: the usual. And of course they also offer take-away!
