"Heya Girls!"
Dear ladies, finally we are back! A big thank you to the many, many readers who have inquired about our whereabouts over the last few weeks. We are a small team and for the first time in CitySpotterGirl’s history, everyone was ill. But now all is well again, the crocuses are blooming in our office garden and our favourite city is longing to show itself from its best side. Starting next Saturday, for example. Personally, the accordion makes me think more of alpine huts and swaying to corny music – but the International Accordion Festival, starting on 25 February, will once again prove that this instrument can elicit some really cool sounds! The greats of this genre will be coming from Berlin with the “17 Hippies”, from Portugal with the famous “Dancas Ocultas” – and a few women like Marlies Fürst (photo). She has recently been on the road as a solo artist and singer/songwriter under the name “Maola”. Music with melancholy, but also sparks!

Wishing you a sparkling week,
Your Homecoming Queen aka CitySpotterGirl

 Esca
Sale at Esca-Shop
The two graphic siblings from Esca have long since designed their way into CitySpotterGirl’s heart. But now the prices are dropping for three days, as well! Many of their cool and playful animal motif textiles are reduced by up to 50%! Of course, all of them are hand-printed, made of cuddly and fairly produced organic cotton and in great colours. And coffee drinkers take note: Even the handmade enamel cups with small flaws are up for grabs at bargain prices (fox, bear, Little Red Riding Hood, trout and mountain patterns). So nice!

The Artistic Intelligence
The picture above was painted by an Artificial Intelligence. What already works frighteningly well with texts (ChatGPT!) has now also been successfully implemented in the art sector: for three days, the exhibition at the Ministry of Artists gallery shows 19 “works of art” generated with AI programmes – and they are absolutely worth seeing. At the opening, there will also be a panel discussion in which experts will shed light on topics such as copyright and challenges of AI. The vernissage is today, please be sure to register!

Camellias and Azalea Blossom
In 1776, the Swedish naturalist Karl Peter Thunberg brought a forbidden four camellias back to London from his trip to Japan. Three specimens were given to royal gardens, one of which ended up at Schönbrunn. To this day, the Palm House has one of the largest historic collections of camellias and azaleas in the world. And as always at this time of year, the beauties start to bloom – together with an opulent selection of primroses and tulips. So off we go to the beautiful Palm House at Schönbrunn Palace, which exudes holiday vibes with its humid air.

The Forest We Dream Of
Christoph Bochdansky lets us dive into psychedelic dream worlds with his latest play: For her programme “The Forest We Dream Of”, a reporter wants to conduct an interview with the “man in the forest”, but he refuses with all the might of the forest. But since dreams, according to Sigmund Freud's “The Interpretation of Dreams”, are only wish fulfilment, it does come about. Along the way, the reporter moves in a surreal world of dreams and reality, dolls and people, and is driven by Beatles songs – the four of them, by the way, are also there as papier-mâché dolls!

Folds
On our faces, we try to get rid of them, but wrinkles have been an important design element in art, fashion and architecture for thousands of years. The MAK now celebrates them and shows 90 objects taking a multi-perspective look at wrinkles. Ornamental pleated skirts, a foldable brass candlestick, fashion creations by Issey Miyake or the cantilever chair by Verner Panton show their existence in the field of design and culture. The second part of the exhibition deals with wrinkles in relation to the body and nature and proves once again how much history there is in the little wrinkles ;-)

Why men kill women
With her recently published book on the subject of femicides in Austria, journalist Yvonne Widler created a stir of horror. At today's Club Alpha info evening she will get to the bottom of the most important questions: Who are the perpetrators and what do they have in common? How must effective protection against violence in relationships be designed for women? Where are the roots of misogyny in Austria? What responsibility does the media bear in all this? And above all: where to start in the fight against systemic violence against women? The event starts tonight at 19:00.

A Women’s Paradise
You can hear fine chansons, witty hits and frivolous small treats today at the Konzerthaus. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the State of Israel, new life is being breathed into the (mostly forgotten) Jewish divas of the Roaring Twenties. Rita Georg, Betty Fischer & Co will be voiced by none other than Ethel Merhaut. Musical support is provided by the Divertimento Viennese orchestra, and Stefano Bernardin, as impresario, guides us through the evening with exciting insights into the lives of the divas. Now all you need to go is a flapper dress and a pearl necklace!

The real weird magic picture show
Now someone wants to amaze our surfeited retinas here! Namely with magical lollipop style, unsettling horror scenarios and an exaggerated hyperreality in the new group exhibition at the Weisse Haus. Because looking at the artworks with bubbling lava lamps, sad-looking colourful flowers and severed Barbie heads in neon colours makes you feel a bit like you're on mushrooms. But it is precisely with this effect of otherness, of the extreme and uncanny that the artists' group wants to counter everyday tristesse. Definitely entertaining!

Beethoven – Opus 360
Those who have always found the classical luminary a bit of a yawn can get to know him anew today. As soon as the audience puts on their VR glasses, they land in a rap battle – with Beethoven right in the middle, who has to prove himself against a rapper. Kelsen
It's unusual to have to take your ID with you to lunch and pass through a full-body scanner like at the airport – but not quite surprising in the newly renovated Parliament. The entire top floor of the building is now a gastro zone and houses three restaurants where everyone is allowed to eat. Despite its elegant style the Kelsen canteen is self-service, the beautiful bistro with the old chandeliers offers sensational cakes, and the fine dining area serves animated menus. The food is exceptionally good everywhere – and you’ll even get to see a few politicians ;-)
