Extra Sale at Christian Romauch
In the past, Christian Romauch worked for the small organic grocery store Naturkost St. Joseph and for GEA. Because of his love for small manufactures and diligently produced products, he came up with the idea of opening a shop-within-a-shop at Dörte Kaufmann, where you can purchase now selected fashion items by small local producers. This certainly comes at a cost, but during the extra sale starting today you can get beautiful cardigans and coats by the Tyrolean label Mühlmann reduced by 30 percent - and chic knitted pieces such as pullovers, caps or scarves by modus vivendi. Teona Mosia
What might Georgian jazz sound like? Those who would like to broaden their musical horizons into that direction could aim towards going to Schwarzberg tonight. The Georgian jazz singer Teona Mosia will present traditional folk songs from her home country as well as standard jazz songs from expressive ballads to well-known compositions which she interprets in a virtuous, world-music-like way. She will be accompanied by a few outstanding Austrian, Serbian, Bulgarian and Georgian musicians. Powerful, rhythmic and definitely something that you cannot experience every day! Listen in here.

FrauenFilmTage 2017
Women are strong, humorous, brutal, charming and, yes, sometimes contradictory! You can literally see this during the women’s film festival FrauenFilmTage. It starts tonight in three federal provinces and shows numerous films produced by women: So many brilliant women in front of and behind the camera! Many of them, such as local costume designer Monika Buttinger and the successful Spanish director Isabel Coitext, will attend the festival in person. A tribute will be dedicated to the latter, by the way. The festival opens tonight at Filmcasino with the enchanting Icelandic romantic comedy “L’Effet aquatique”.

Vulgar? Fashion Redefined
There is accounting for taste – especially when talking about fashion ;-) A new exhibition (the first one under Belvedere’s new director!) at Winter Palace inspires a discourse about the volatile nature of taste by presenting different objects from Renaissance times until today. What is “good” taste and what does “vulgar” really mean? The exhibit shows historical clothing, couture and manufactured pieces as well as fabric samples, manuscripts and pictures. Moreover you can admire various “over the top”-creations by designers such as Manolo Blahnik, Dior, Lagerfeld, Prada and Vivienne Westwood.

Losar: Tibetan New Year
The year of the Fire Monkey is history, welcome to the year of the Fire Bird! The Tibetan year 2144 begins now. “Losar”, Tibetan New Year, has been celebrated for more than 2000 years (since the enthronement of the first king Nyatri Tsempo) and will be celebrated with singing and burning incense at the Viennese Don Bosco Haus today. You can find everything that is part of a successful Tibetan celebration here: The program includes a snow lion dance, Bollywood moves, the dance groups Cholsum Shabdro and Lhase Bhumo, a tombola and a Night Party. Moreover there will be Momos, cake and a lovely smoking ceremony!

20 participants, 20 inspiring stories and 20 exciting projects: The Pioneers of Change belong to a global learning network and have been working together on their ideas for almost one year. Amongst them are Verena Haselmayr, who advocates for a paradigm shift in education and has founded POET (Philosohpy of Educational Transformation), and David Brunmayr, who developed “ Paradizer”, a harvesting machine for fruits which have fallen from the trees. The group members will present their projects today and celebrate from 21:00 onwards with DJs and live acts such as [dunkelbunt] or Cafe Olga Sanchez – until all hours!

According to the rules of this swap, you can bring up to 5 kg of clothes and will get a voucher for each kilo. Then you can carry home clothes to the value of your voucher. As well as clothes, you can swap books, cloth bags and games. For those items, the rule one for one will be applied. By the way, you can also donate your surplus of clothes – this has the advantage that your wardrobe will stay nicely aired ;-)

Viennese Restaurant Week
Having a luxurious feast at a saver fare! From today until 12 March, more than 80 of Vienna’s top restaurants offer one menu at a strongly reduced price. During the so-called “Restaurant-Woche”, which has been delighting gourmets for some years now, you can enjoy culinary delicacies as a two course lunch for €14,50 and as a three course dinner for €29,50. Restaurants with more than two toques charge an extra fee, but they are still a lot cheaper than they would normally be. Amongst the participants, you can find ON, Clementine im Glashaus or the sensational new Amador’s Wirtshaus. Therefore you’d better make your reservation quickly!

Fit in 12 weeks
It’s no use. If the waistband pinches more and more and the shirt tightens, one has to defeat one’s weaker self and, at best, take her for a stroll. This works quite well during our free (!) preparation workouts for the Women’s Run on 21 May. There is still enough time for everyone to manage all the 5 km! The workouts take place at different locations throughout Austria – in Vienna for example at Prater or Türkenschanzpark – and include groups with different running levels. A brilliant instrumental mix! The trio “Motiv“ combines symphonic music with Portuguese Pop and Fado as well as bits of Brazilian music. Percussionist Miguel Majer provides hot rhythms and Ines Vaz – whose musical origins lie in classical and jazz music – creates surprising sounds with her accordion. The third member of the group, guitarist Mucio Sas, covers a great musical range from Pop to Jazz too. All in all, this results in a unique sound! Tonight, within the scope of the accordion festival (“Akkordeonfestival”), you can experience the virtuous trio live on stage. Take a listen here.

New room, new ideas: Designer Maria Fürnkranz-Fielhauer and her fashion label “wiener konfektion” moved recently to Westbahnstraße. Tonight, she will present a new (gorgeous!) collection made from recycled kimono fabrics there. Vienna-based Japanese Nobuko Akiyama inspired her. The designer sewed a concert dress from kimono fabrics for her, and her client was so enthusiastic about it that she asked her mother to send original kimonos that had been worn by geishas from Japan. At tonight’s presentation, a delicious European-Japanese buffet will provide even more Japanese flair. Very nice!

In four days, four authors will read excerpts from their works in four coffee houses, accompanied by jazz musicians Michaela Rabitsch and Robert Pawlik. The small festival starts today at Café Schopenhauer, where Ruth Cerha will distil the story of the women in her books. Tomorrow it will go on at Café Mokka in the S45 station Gersthof, where local hero Petra Hartlieb will present her bestseller “My wonderful bookstore”. At the weekend the festival will take place at Anton Frank and the nice roastery Franze Cafebrennerei.

The Little Black Cat
One is often reluctant to enter a lovely boutique because it might end badly for one’s purse. At “Little Black Cat”, this is not necessary. Fashionista Vicky Scheibelhofer named her store simply after her cat. The fashion items she offers are as affordable as at Zara & Co, but not everyone has them. All pieces are produced by French labels such as Miss June and Deby Debo or by the Danish label ICHI. Apart from that, the owner has a slight tendency towards hippie-chic and ethno style. Finding beautiful items here is really easy – a pretty blouse costs €39, a dashing jeans dress less than €100. Merci!

Max & Benito
Mariahilfer Straße has many features, but relaxing is not a characteristic that normally comes to one’s mind. This could change now! In the new Max & Benito (formerly the shop of the organic jeans tailors Gebrüder Stitch) you can not just combine your individual tasty Burrito, Taco or salad, but also enjoy peacefulness. In the airy and luminous upper floor you can watch the people scuttle about on Mahü undisturbed while sitting between chic retro lamps, modern wooden furniture and funny comics on the wall. During summer a so-called “Schanigarten” (a Viennese kind of pavement café) will be added. Very nice!
