"Heya Girls!"
Advent, advent, business at the Christmas Markets is content! Yes, ladies, we’ve officially reached the I-need-presents-time. And the WeihnachtsQuartier offers itself as the perfect opportunity to spend money on the first advent weekend. 1,000 sqm of design and more than 100 artists sell their treasures at MQ, indoors and heated! So there will be a big bustle, but also tons of great gifts like gorgeous porcelain by Eva Mayer, original upcycling jewellery by schmuck.ART (photo), coats by Linebins or paper objects made from lexicons by Helmut Pokornig. And yes, CitySpotterGirl will also be there these three days – and has prepared particularly pretty books for you at her stand! Obviously, I will also bring our current sensation, the Musterbuch with 125 patterns from Viennese museums. With designs by Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätten, by Koloman Moser and Emilie Flöge – and Klimt’s Kiss jumped into an Art Nouveau décor. So: drop by! I’m looking forward to seeing you!

Wishing you an original week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

MuseumsQuartier, Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna. 29 November until 1 December. Free entry. Web

P.S. You can also buy CitySpotterGirl’s books online!

Meg Stuart: Celestial Sorrow
For this premiere they are dancing with spirits. Because star-choreographer Meg Stuart and the Indonesian artist Jompet Kuswidananto are trying to get rid of old demons. And to simply shake off personal and political traumata – like Suharto’s dictatorship in Indonesia, for instance. Physical tools used will include shamanic rituals, magical dances and poetic live-sounds. It’s very well possible that your own psyche will creak during the wild performance-trip ;-) But after all, it never hurts to reconcile with (at least in a dancing way) stupid old baggage, grin.

VinziRast Advent Market
“Every year again …” comes not only Christ Child but also – luckily! – the VinziRast-Advent Market. Luckily because they have really pretty, handmade unique item-gifts – from home textiles to Christmas deco-stuff – here. Because by buying these things with a purpose made by refugees you automatically support other VinziChance projects. Because the peaceful ambiance in the inner yard decorated with a Christmas tree is really festive and pleasantly anti-commercial. And because it’s only on for 3 days! On 29 November there’s an atmospheric “Cello Pur”-concert.

Solala
It all started just for the heck of it and above all on the kitchen table. Three handsome Swedes sing famous songs in somewhat unconventional interpretations without instruments, film it and put the result on YouTube. Today, Jens, Anders and Jolle are a capella stars popular all over the world – the trio has recorded three albums and now brings the kitchen table sessions to the stage as a live performance act. Tonight at Theater am Spittelberg. And when these three sing “Hey Brother” by Avicii and beat time with a coffee tin, it’s really very, very cool!

Wiener Brut: Herr Biedermeier
The band Wiener Brut around singing belter Katharina Hohenberger has grown. The father-daughter-duo are joined by drumming, trumpeting and string plucking guests on their new album “Herr Biedermeier”. Today is the big release-concert at the Radiokultur Haus! Which is where music enthusiasts may look forward to all kinds of bittersweet ballads, tearjerker dance songs and humour tunes, leftist protest songs and chauvinist pieces. Their new song repertoire includes a very promising “Bitte geh” and the “Austrian Beziehungslandler”. Absolutely top live!

Those hooked on cookery can stock up on the best olives in the world by Don Fredo or on cashew liquor produced on the outskirts of Vienna. Both were selected by Usus boss and ex-Silent Cooker Patrick Müller, yummy! CitySpotterGirl wants to snatch a grandma hanging basket by halodribums. Ho, ho, ho!

Cookie Swap + we love handmade Market
How to turn a Vanillekipferl into a Punschkrapferl? Simple! You exchange your homemade cookies for the ones made by others. Not only does that save you a lot of flour dust and baking hassle but it also brings a deliciously-relaxed mix to the table! The Cookie Swap with food blogger Mara Hohla takes place today only between 13:00 to 13:30 and 15:30 to 16:00! Have a Cup of Tea with Sophie Rois
Whether the smart, beautiful, strong woman (yes, SpotterGirl is a fan ;-) plays a TV inspector or the witch in Faust on the stage – she is simply superb! Today, the celebrated actress descends from Berlin theatre Olympus and hosts – relaxed and personal – a Tea Time at Rabenhof. In her artistic homage to the British subcontinent she performs songs by The Kinks and stories by bestseller author Ian McEwan. In a rough voice and punkish charm, she tells stories about the magic of the first time and from the never-ending process of becoming an adult.

Yiddish Culture Festival
Until 15 December you still have the chance of diving into Yiddish culture. No, not during a visit to the Jewish Museum this time but during the many different readings and concerts of the Yiddish Culture Festival. All new is the series “Spot on Yiddish Divas” at Theater am Spittelberg, which puts female Yiddish singers into the limelight. The amazing Shlomit Butbul (with band) is on the stage today and dishes an Oriental-European jazzy concert mix! Tomorrow it will be “Wien, Wien, nor du aleyn” with Mandys Mischpoche and Joesi Prokopetz.

Alles was Recht ist
Once the decision to separate has been made, a legal wrangle begins: about the maintenance and child support, property allocation and shared custody. An organisational challenge, which legal expert Barbara Stekl and psychosocial counsellor Bettina Zehetner aim to facilitate a little bit with their lecture this evening. They will discuss and clarify some important basic questions: what rights does a woman have in case of a divorce and what does the situation look like with partnerships? Plus: what helps against the enormous emotional drain? Please sign up!

Martin Harley
Admittedly, the British “King of Blues & Folk”, Martin Harley, wears a bit of a scowl with his beard. But you are inclined to let that pass because he has such a cool way of swinging his Slide guitar and makes such great Nashville blues that even Alanis Morissette asked him to the stage. Today, he is here in the city – for his only concert in Vienna – and brings his new album “Roll With The Punches”! A little spoiler: it doesn’t only pay homage to country blues but also to gospel. Which could be due to the fact that he studied his songs in a chapel in Pembrokeshire.

These three amigos know their coffee. Especially its effect. And that’s why in the morning, to wake you up, they have a stimulating “Morning Blend” that really packs a punch. Then from the afternoon, they serve the milder mix “Afternoon Blend” to make sure you can sleep properly at night. The tasty stuff is served in the small, handsome Café Carl Ludwig. There’s no big selection of food but the creatively topped baguettes taste good and the sweet stuff (cruffins included!) comes from Öfferl. In summer with the beautiful Palais garden, it will step up its game even further!
