"Heya Girls!"
I don't think there's ever been this much yoga in the city before. Corona seems to have taken the need for mindfulness and relaxation to a whole new level ;-) Yoga outdoors is especially enjoyable. Throughout the summer, for example, yoga and meditation are always done on Thursday in the garden of the Klimt Villa. Also in the Prater (on the Arena meadow) you can end the day once a week with a varied flow, breathing exercises and extensive relaxation. And it’s especially nice on the water – on a SUP board (photo). After a short introduction you will go straight out onto the calm waters of the New Danube. Outside, the boards for yoga are docked onto a kind of island, and what follows is pure relaxation: The water splashing gently, the frogs croaking a sonorous om – and no stinging insects far and wide. Because you don't want to tumble into the water right away, you perform the exercises so slowly and carefully that you're in absolute chillaxing mode in no time. Now we only need the weather goddess to be sympathetic.

Wishing you a refreshing week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Birdy and Bee
Sassy Summer Sale
For 3 days, ROEE's fashion atelier turns into a pop-up store for the “Sassy Summer Sale” – and 5 friendly labels will present themselves there. As host, ROEE offers a discount of up to 50%, 20% cheaper are the T-shirts with cheeky messages from “LaRa Statement”. Regular prices apply to the remaining labels, like the beautiful turbans by Mirjam Zai with old Hollywood glamour. “Birdy & Bee” has something nice for the ears: the colourful earrings with oranges on them are unique, gold-plated and nickel-free. The Prosecco makes the shopping even more tingly.

Mira Lu Kovacs
The local jazz and pop virtuoso Mira Lu Kovacs is known to be quite a jack-of-all-trades, after all, she not only built a career with her three (!) bands Schmieds Puls, My Ugly Clementine and 5K HD, but also as a solo artist. Today she will play together with bassist Beate Wiesinger in the (still) empty Konzerthaus – and fill the room with her delicate voice and unique melodies. She presents new songs with feeling and power, like “84” – listen in here. By the way: Mira Lu recently revealed her favourite books to CitySpotterGirl. Great woman, great sounds!

Angewandte Festival 2020
The annual dividend payment of the University of Applied Arts is on the agenda these days –in the form of the most important works created during the current academic year. Due to the well-known corona situation, the students' works will be distributed throughout Vienna and presented online this year. Individually designed advertising pillars are available in all 23 districts (e.g. Am Heumarkt and Resselpark), the Asphalt Gallery is especially cool: like a travelling circus, displays on three small trucks always leave Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz at noon and tour the streets with the exhibition.

A green shopping oasis will move to Vienna for a very short time. The botany studio “Bergamotte”, originally from France, shows more than 3,000 plants from sustainable growers in the Josefstadt at the Pop-up Jungle: pretty and beginner-friendly plants, hanging, exotic or prickly from no more than 4 Euros. The special Corona rules: a free ticket for a time slot is booked online, with which you can then roam through the urban greenhouse for 30 minutes. You can also drop by without a ticket, but then you might have to reckon with longer waiting times.

Summer in the Park
A new gourmet oasis in the middle of the city: In the green Stadtpark, ten gastronomy pavilions will pitch their tents in and around the Kursalon Hübner from today during “Summer in the Park”. Fine dining under trees is provided by the restaurant “Zur goldenen Kugel” and the high-quality fusion cuisine of the Lonas, and on weekends you can have brunch in the morning under the open sky. Only a few times a year the Episcopal Palace offers a glimpse behind its thick walls. On Friday and Saturday the gates open for two days for the large antiques and book market: Thousands of books of all genres (novels, cookbooks, antiquarian books), rarities and curiosities can be bought at low prices. In addition to reading material, there are fine glassware, beautiful porcelain, small antiques, antique lamps, rare and beautiful things to discover. From Vandalism to Art
CitySpotterGirl has two particularly beautifully painted walls right in front of the editorial office, but street-art works are “blooming” all over the city. Elisabeth Wolf's guided tour reveals where the newest walls can be discovered. The city explorer shows fascinating small, large, new and older graffiti, walls and stencils on her walk. Right in front of our eyes, actually, the works are hidden high up on the walls of houses, on bridges and underpasses – you have already passed them many times, but didn’t notice anything. Bring your camera!

Solstice Bonfire am Himmel
This whole weather mess doesn't really feel like summer yet. It clearly needs to be fired up a bit, for example with two blazing summer solstice bonfires ;-) They have those today at dusk on the meadow Am Himmel, between the Tree of Life circle and the restaurant Oktogon, two fire bowls will be lit. The flames symbolise renewal, fertility and growth – celebrating life itself. A fantastic view over the city and barbecue specialties plus cool drinks: It will be a magical summer evening.

Central Cemetery – City of the Dead
The Central Cemetery is the largest city in Austria with its 3 million “inhabitants”. Opened in 1874, it offers space for everyone: graves of honour for personalities from art, culture and politics, soldiers' graves, memorials, tombs of various faiths and graves for the many Viennese, of course. Today, a guided tour of the Central Cemetery can be taken, including its overgrown corners, imposing funerary monuments, ancient inscriptions and curiosities. To match the whole experience: be sure to take tram line 71 there, the so-called “Cemetery Tram” ;-)

Workout at the Beach
Working out right by the water has a big advantage: water cools the air, thus making the workout more comfortable. On the banks of the Danube there is now a free group training every Sunday with the fitness studio “Fit/One”, including a natural cooling system. At the Vienna City Beach Club, you can spend an hour doing Functional Training without equipment, using only your own body weight. Registration is not necessary for participation – whoever comes first gets a spot. Afterwards, you can either jump right into the Danube or relax in a deck chair.

Design a porcelain box
Jewellery and small treasures no longer need to be stored in cardboard boxes. Porcelain caskets, made in four hours in the workshop of the Tonhalle, have much more style. In today's workshop, modelling, shaping and decorating will be done until you have created a small art object with a luxury factor. Instructions will come from the certified ceramist Julia Belova, whether you want to live out geometrically chic or wildest form fantasies, she helps. After the firing the box is glazed, and two weeks later it can be picked up and is ready to exude decadence.

Christl: Artists 4 Water
Boom, she belts out quite something! And with a maturity in her voice that you wouldn’t have thought 19-year-old newcomer Christl capable of. In her first single “Game Over”, soul, jazz and pop sound strong, vocally you can even compare her (a little) with the great Adele. The voice of the Viennese-by-choice can be heard live this evening in the new and cosy Schlawiener inn during “Artists 4 Water”. Singers, songwriters, bands and DJs play there for the water project “Viva con Agua”, which supports safe access to drinking water in Malawi. Hear good and do good!

Sabine Scholl „O”
Male heroic tales are well known. But how would a story – for example the Odyssey – change if the main character was female? Sabine Scholl's novel “O” revolves around this question in a retelling of the epic. The author reads excerpts today at the Alte Schmiede: the novel's heroine, O. for short, travels the oceans with her companionesses, all of whom are refugees. Encounters with Calypso and the Sirens take place in the here and now, with current experiences of fleeing and mythology thousands of years old woven into the story.

Asteroid Day at NHM
Just like in a “Back to the future thriller”: in an exclusive guided tour behind the scenes of the museum, Ludovic Ferrière explains how the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs was discovered. A horror scenario like in Spielberg's Armageddon! But the extraordinary tour for “Asteroid Day” makes it clear that without this huge asteroid impact, although it was very destructive, humanity would probably not exist today. Interested people can even touch the geological layer that was formed on the very day the dinosaurs died!

In the footsteps of important women
Learning creative writing while strolling through the 1st district? Works like this: On the guided walk you follow the footsteps of Austrian authors to various stations. The writing impulses come from their stories and fates, depending on what their lives trigger in you. The tour is guided by author and psychotherapist Karin Macke. In Elfriede Gerstl's favourite café she reads her texts and tells details about the author's life in front of Ilse Aichinger's house. Your texts do not have to be perfect, neither polished nor following the rules – everything’s allowed. For beginners and advanced writers!

Andy Warhol: Misfitting together
The mumok is finally open again as well – and presents works of the world-famous pop art icon Andy Warhol. The show, originally announced for May, has to start without an evening vernissage (still forbidden), but instead the museum is giving away 200 free tickets! The opening will then run all day long. In addition to Warhol's well-known Pop Art works, the new exhibition will also include Minimal Art and Conceptual Art to paint a more differentiated picture of the time. This will be presented to visitors today during guided tours, which are also free of charge.

This sustainable fashion label has already made it as far as the Fashion Week in London. Having started with children's fashion, the Austrian slow fashion is now also available for adults. The purist outfits are characterised by airy, wide cuts, while the shabby-chic shop in Neubau features wide linen trousers, comfortable jumpsuits and tops made of organic cotton. Tops in salmon pink and frog green can be combined with trousers and skirts in muted colours like black and grey. The mix-and-match fashion is produced in the textile manufactory Vienna – all local and fair.

Pizza senza danza
Club-flair meets Neapolitan cuisine! Due to Corona, you are currently not allowed to dance or party in the columned hall in the Volksgarten. So what to do with this beautiful location? The name “Pizza without dance” already reveals the basic idea of the concept: A huge pizza oven has been set up in the garden, on which Neapolitan pastry wheels are baked. The selection is not that extensive, but it tastes good. And, in addition, a few appetizers, checked tablecloths and a perfect view of the roses in the Volksgarten and the town hall. It's only temporary, but hopefully for a long time.
