"Heya Girls!"
Together is often more fun than alone. True, right? How fitting then that a very likeable co-making-thing has opened at the Volkertmarkt: three young women are running the city’s first open ceramics studio here. The three long-time friends and ceramics aficionados were really lucky with the location opposite the market: a bright room with vaulted ceiling and big windows for joint puttering on big tables, a backroom for firing, community rooms on the first floor, and a little shop at the entrance. When it comes to working with clay, Kate, Anouk and Teresa agree: it’s meditative, grounding, and centring. And at the end, you even hold a tangible product in your hand – wonderful! There’s always something happening here, they offer courses and try-out days for newbies, great new techniques for clay artists, a firing service for your own works, and working spaces that can be rented by the hour. Everything’s as easy and nice as the lady bosses!

Wishing you a creative week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

All About Lavender
Brightly violet, bewitching scent, and a true allrounder: lavender is a star in naturopathy, kitchen and cosmetics. During today’s workshop at Sonnentor, herbal educator Julia Binder will share her comprehensive knowledge about the purple labiate. From lavender sugar for baking to lavender liqueur to be enjoyed as a drink up to skin-soothing body care – she demonstrates how the plant can be processed and presents two base recipes. Finally, a deodorant-spray and a facial scrub for home use will be conjured together. Neat!

Arno Geiger reads at MQ
Arno Geiger’s “Unter der Drachenwand” is at the very top of CitySpotterGirl’s summer reading list! Today at the Literature Festival “O-Töne”, in the atmospheric main courtyard of MuseumsQuartier, the star author reads from his newest work: in the war year 1944, the young soldier Veit Kolbe spends a few months at Mondsee, where he meets two women who, like he, hope that life will start again at some point. An outstanding novel – and when Geiger reads in this unpretentious way of his, he turns into his characters so much so that it gives you goose bumps!

Margit Preis & Saju Hari
A very special, Japan-inspired dance performance takes place today high above the city at Kahlenberg. Artist and hobby dancer Margit Preis doesn’t practice calligraphy of letters but of “creatures”. It’s always been her dream to have them expressed through movement too – now it has come true. Together with a choreographer and a dancer from Japan, a dance performance has been created around her pictures that are presented today at the Luftschloss Café. Live music, vernissage and dance all come together in the garden with its view over Vienna and in the Marble hall. Great!

Night Climbing at Forest Rope Park
Cool trip-tip for adventurous night owls: in the Forest Rope Park on Kahlenberg you can go climbing until late at night over the summer. On Fridays and Saturdays, after nightfall, hundreds of lights set the mood between the branches of giant trees, headlamps are available by request, too. You can test your skills on the 18 courses with wobbly nets and swaying rope bridges, additional adrenaline is provided by flying foxes, which allow you to dash from tree to tree. And the view down to the city-lights is simply breathtaking!

Party of Lights at Alte Donau
Aw, so romantic! At night, a fleet decorated with Chinese lanterns is cruising down Alte Donau, rental boats from the many rental places are included just as well as privately owned boats and – yes, really – a group of Venetian gondolas! Music is in the air, in-between you can recharge culinarily and the darker it gets, the more beautifully kitschy the whole thing is. The evening’s highlight is the display of fireworks from around 21:45 in the area of the Gänsehäufel, before that, a musical cloud of hits and oldies floats across the water. Tip: make rental boat reservations in time!

Jacqueline Patricio Da Luz
Great voice! Jacqueline Patricio Da Luz sings wonderfully lyrical, rhythmic Brazil-jazz. As the daughter of South American parents, her passion for Brazilian vibes was awakened early on; later, great US-composers like Cole Porter or George Gershwin influenced her musical journey. She was a popular background and choir singer for a long time, now the lady with the velvet voice is flying solo and asks jazz or pop singers to join her when needed. Today, she is performing her programme “Vivo Sonhando” with guitarist Thiemo Kirberg and percussionist Andi Steirer.

 Greenwood Flutes
Make a Healing- or Love Flute
Forget about your recorder-trauma from your primary school days already, flute sounds can be so beautiful and healing! In her workshop, Doris Lutz shows how to build a patented Native American healing- or love flute – with a wonderful, deeply moving sound! For your individual dream flute, you may first select a piece of rough wood from different timbers. And then, after an introduction during which they also present three different kinds of flutes, there’s rasping and honing, oiling, decorating and tuning. At the end, there’s even a ceremonial flute blessing. Really, really special!

Piber meets Vienna
The jumping Spanish Riding School horses are currently on holiday in the countryside. In return, the offspring from the stud farm Piber have gone on summer camp in Vienna. The summer programme will show young stallions that have only been romping around alpine pastures so far, mares with their little foals, and historical harnesses with original carriages. The highlight is the outdoor-foal enclosure in the evenings (if the manager gives the green light and the weather’s fine) in Burggarten! There you can admire the lively babies with their elegant mummies in their green nursery for free – so cute!

Stopping Movement
Franziska Gschaider is a Grinberg practitioner and she loves to separate people from their old patterns of movement and thinking. That’s why, as of late, she has been offering a movement training tackling this exact subject. Because “Stopping Movement” is mainly about learning how to unlearn old patterns. It’s about placing trust into natural movements again – no matter how you are supposed to be or look. It turns out like something between yoga and dancing, but actually completely different than that ;-) In any case, it’s fun and it’s taking place outdoors in summer!

Cabaret Festival
From today, you can giggle, chuckle and kill yourself laughing at Rathaus. There, 2 main programmes every night cause laughing fits during the Cabaret Festival, for example Omar Sarsam triggers a “Herzalarm” with his jokes at the opening, the guy really is a paediatric surgeon, by the way, who got famous for his youtube hit “Disco Disco Party Party”. “Eine Stunde Seidl” is due as well. Then the 1-week laughing line up continues with cabaret stars from Alfred Dorfer to Monica Weinzettl. The warming up laughter is taken care of by newcomers as opening acts.

Shakespeare in the Park
Things are getting turbulent today in idyllic Pötzipark when there’s “Much Ado About Nothing”, theatre-wise, following Shakespeare’s comedy. Around Pötzleinsdorfer Castle, in the midst of giant trees, old lake grottos, derelict bird houses and figurines, everything revolves around the love and intrigues of 2 very different couples at today’s Parktheater premiere. They meet at a scenic country estate, what follows is a great guessing game featuring masterly dialogues culminating in a (spoiler alert!) double wedding. Entertaining open-air theatre fun!

Fashion meets Art
Four women, many emotions: for their first joint group exhibition, artist ladies Lilly Sander, Eva Wagner, Kateryna von Fürstenberg and Cynthia Langthaler have dealt with the topic “Woman, Femininity and Feelings”. A fruitful topic – realised with different techniques from oil to graphite. Plus, the new fashion label “Burell” will be introduced at today’s opening. The classic, colourful business dresses from Viennese designer Elwira Burdzy’s first collection can be tried on and purchased right there on site. Oh yeah, and there’ also prosecco ;-)

Claudia Heidegger & Anne Dromeda
A very nice little open-air setting for comfy summer evenings! On weekdays in summer, there are nice, free live concerts taking place in the courtyard of WUK, with musicians from pop to folk and blues. The whole thing is encompassed by cool DJ sets. Today, they have two singers/songwriters performing, Claudia Heidegger and Anne Dromeda. Tirolese Claudia Heidegger tells stories of love, fears, dreams and hopes with her puristically arranged songs. Anne Dromeda describes her songs as “psychedelic chansons”. Really fine sound times two!

Die Allee
Taking tram 1 across Prater all the way to its final stop “Hauptallee” is a bit like miniature railroad driving for adults. Which is why it’s highly recommended for travelling to the venue “Die Allee” ;-) It’s very close to the tram station and scores points particularly with its terrace situated right by Hauptallee. Inside, the restaurant-bar-bowling-billiard thing is huge and all in all pretty stylish and chill. Vegetarians will have a tough time, meat fans and BBQ-friends are definitely in better hands. But you really don’t come for the food anyway, it’s just nice to be sitting in the green heart of the city ;-)
