"Heya Girls!"
Dear ladies, I think it was time: time for a Vienna venue guide exclusively for us women! We don’t just want to have good food when going out, after all, but we also want to enjoy ourselves. Meaning the atmosphere’s gotta be right, the service friendly, and the furnishings particularly pretty – no matter if we feel like vintage or elegance. And that’s why there’s – tadaa! – a new book by CitySpotterGirl. “Feel good! Die Lieblingslokale der Wienerinnen” (the favourite venues of Viennese women) presents cafes, restaurants, and bars for every possible situation.  Where can I chat with a friend in peace? Where can I find a good breakfast? Where do they have enough space for a big girls’ group? Where can I spend a relaxed mother-daughter-day? And not least: where can I go for a fancy dinner? Because ladies, no matter how beautiful or exhausting life is at the moment: every now and then we just have to let out our inner princess! And since it’s intended just for us ladies, the book has become extra pretty – you can have a look inside here. As of now, it’s available in stores and the web shop. And I promise you: this book is a must-have!

Wishing you an exciting week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Mary Broadcast
Mary Broadcast
The Viennese singer/songwriter Maria Aichberger alias Mary Broadcast is a tireless fighter for humanity and compassion. She is fascinated by the mysterious and the genuinely emotional and she’s expressing this fascination on her amazing 5th album “Svinx”. Together with “Sofa Surfer” Markus Keinzl”, they created songs that touch, unsettle, and move – like this one here. “It’s danceable city loneliness and fragile wildness”, says the artist. You can shake along at today’s album presentation, and the singing sphinx is also really, really great on the stage!

Summer Night Concert
Well, hopefully the weather will play along for the yearly Philharmonic concert at Schönbrunn! The program’s motto is “An Italian Night” with lots of Verdi, a bit of Puccini and Rossini, but also a touch of Swan Lake. The conductor is Maestro Valery Gergiev and the solos will be warbled by no less a figure than Anna Netrebko! Everyone will have goosebumps when the exceptional Russian singer strikes up her arias, at the latest! If you’d prefer to enjoy the atmospheric spectacle sitting on a chair like a VIP, you can queue up for a ticket at 17:00. First come, first served!

NONO Outdoor flea market
Nice shopping event today at NonStopNordzeile of Yppenplatz! Flea market classics like books, clothes, shoes, records, or CDs await new owners there this afternoon. The atmosphere is calm, friendly, and chill, and in good weather they’re even going to put up a paddle pond for some merry splashing and feet cooling. The food for hungry bargain huntresses is being catered from neighbouring venues, with multiculti food from Kasnudeln to Tacos and Georgian dishes. And at night, singer Carl Otto will also plunk a few nice little songs on his guitar.

 Die Grünen
Bike Rescue of the Greens
The bike rescue service of the Green Party is touring through the whole city again to make boneshakers fit for the season – for free, at that! Today in the afternoon, they stop at Schlesingerplatz in the 8thdistrict, tomorrow they’ll be at Rochusmarkt in the third from 10:00 to 13:00. Experts examine every bike, followed by an on-site service and small repairs – like adjusting gears and brakes, checking of wearing parts and even a tube change, if necessary. Better come early, there’s pretty great demand in the ever-growing bicycle community!

Darkside tour at Natural History
Spooky and atmospheric at the same time: at night, the old walls of the Museum of Natural History are completely abandoned and would be a good location for a horror movie ;-) How fitting then that night owls and nosy people can explore the darkened halls during a guided tour tonight. The topics are old tales and legends, superstition, and nocturnal animals. After the expedition through the exhibition rooms and the Anthropological department, it’s off to the roof of the museum. You can enjoy the wonderful view of the city up there and a strengthening beverage.

Sandals-Workshop
It’s much easier to argue in favour of spending money on new shoes like this: self-made! Super pretty! Special custom made! Therefore: everyone can produce their own (future) favourite leather sandals during Stefanie Kerschbaumer’s weekend course. You’ll draw patterns, cut and sew leather pieces, and fit them onto the self-prepared leather soles. And on the side, you’ll also get fascinating insights into the manual craft of a shoe maker. You can either bring your own design plan or get your inspiration there on site. And then you’ll go home with a finished pair of sandals.

Life Ball
For days, they have been pottering around at Rathausplatz to finish the complex stage for THE event of the year in time: the Life Ball takes place today for the 25th time! The anniversary attracts numerous odd birds, superstars like Adrian Brody or Charlize Theron, models, and fashion gurus. In keeping with the motto “Sound of Music” the entire City Hall will be “kitched up” with sublime mountain & meadow scenery, couples in traditional clothing, butterflies and deer. At today’s mega-opening 25 (!) fashion houses from Gaultier to Missoni present their wedding collections. Yes, we like ;-)

Learn to recognize edible wild plants
Telling apart broad-leaf plantain and narrow-leaf plantain, okay, that’s just about doable. But who’s familiar with the different kinds of impatiens? Today, wild plant expert Kersten Sitte will present edible plants and their usage during a hike through Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark – and give tips on how to recognize them. And of course you may also taste some, from bitter burdock to sweet shamrock, the variety among the currently sprouting plants is huge. And by the way: wild garlic time isn’t over yet either! Because you can actually use the seeds for seasoning ;-)

Tabu Kellekcio
What a great opera, but totally different! For their opening, the contemporary Musiktheater Days bring the ingenious Catwalk-Opera “Tabu Kollekcio” to the city. The play is one of the hippest acts in Budapest right now: twenty-four singing “models” from the multifaceted chorus Soharóza sing on the runway about taboo subjects like erotic dreams, menstruation, or skin diseases in a humorous and dynamic way. It’s not just the music that’s fantastic, but also the partly bizarre costumes that have been jazzed up with technologies like 3D-prints or LED lights. That’s how opera’s done today!

Ich helfe laufend-Charity Run
The muscle hangover from Women’s Run has hopefully toddled off by now because today the charity run in Augarten is waiting for exercise-hungry gazelles. It’s not the length that’s preset but the run time: it’s about running as many 1 km-rounds as possible through the beautiful park in either 30 minutes (hobby competition) or 60 minutes (endurance competition). This year, all the event’s proceeds will go to MOKI-Wien, the mobile children’s nursing care. Spontaneous participation (even with 2 girlfriends in a team of 3) is possible, you can sign up today from 9:00!

Geymüllerschlössl
An enchanted park that’s unknown to most anyone and a gorgeous little palace - sounds like the perfect Sunday outing. Our destination is a Biedermeier-gem in the 18th district which used to be the “summer residence” of a Viennese banker. Geymüllerschlössl is only open on Sundays during the warm season and houses the Empire & Biedermeier furniture collection of MAK. Every Sunday at 15:00, guided tours give insight into the diversity of Biedermeier life. And around the Schlössl, you can rest in the shade under the trees and chill.

Life according to GAIA theory
An important topic: how can life and the economy develop in a successful way without draining the natural resources of humans and nature? The GAIA hypothesis connects archaic European wisdom with modern management findings. GAIA co-founder and book author Veronika Lamprecht is giving a talk on this subject at Soulsisters today. Participants can also travel through the eight GAIA time qualities for a moment there and learn about the powers, methods or rituals that can help them in their own life and their own actions. Fascinating!

Su Mathurin
Women should have power and belong onto the stage! Of that, Su Mathurin is convinced. The newcomer-comedy-queen feels like a “Superstar” (thus the name of her debut program) and wants to prove this to the world. In a wonderfully natural and sassy way, the Viennese lady talks about bottles in bed, esoteric field preachers and miracle healers, a society-dog named Seppi that suffers from burn-out as well as part-time acrobats climbing the ladder. Since she herself manages an artist agency, sings, and has earned money as animatrice in the past, she knows a thing or two about the self-staging industry ;-)

Attenzione fashionistas, the most important fashion event of the week is upon us! The young designer-elite of our country once again present their fancy final collections. And that in a pretty unusual setting, in the former Anker Brotfabrik! This time, the creations of the 25 students and graduates of the fashion class of the University of Applied Arts won’t be presented the traditional way on the runway but will be set up in various islands in the room. Visitors move around and create their own show experience, of course accompanied by some hip sound design. Cool stuff!

Finish Jazz-singer Laura Maria Korhonen and guitarist Aron Saringer started off as a duo, that has now grown into a mixed group. They have different backgrounds, ranging from trained musician to autodidactic punk rocker. The band can be classified somewhere between Nordic folk, reggae and rock, with chansons, Finish tango and swing also thrown into the mix. They are plunking, plucking and scraping on banjo, mandolin or musical saw, and they even brought a glockenspiel along for the ride as well. Really imaginative and diverse! Listen in here.

 A casa tutti bene
Italian Filmfestival
What a show! Right off the bat, the Italian Filmfestival’s opening film is off to a tumultuous start. The comedy “A casa tutti bene” is about a family coming together on the island of Ischia for a celebration. A sudden storm forces the numerous siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews to spend 2 days under the same roof. Friction, battle of words and nervous breakdowns meet Italian temperament ;-) But the other 11 films of the festival also offer partly funny, partly dramatic insights into la bella Italia. Opening’s today!

Women’s power
A night class dedicated to concentrated lady power: it’s all about (re) discovering your own female energy and learning more about yourself and your body. For that reason, physical therapist Brigitte Drs is showing physical therapy exercises for the often shamefully neglected pelvic base to teach us about the power of the pelvis, deepen the connection to it or to return it to mind again. Additionally, life and sex coach Barbara Zuschnig opens a room with short inputs to help us deal with the manifold aspects of sexuality.

Midi cafe & bistrot
What’s feel-good atmosphere in French? Never mind, but the likable duo Guilhem and Pessah has managed to create just that in their second venue. Bright, spacious, comfortable for sitting or lounging, plus attentive service. There is a fine “plat du jour” on the menu every day, just like at the (much smaller) Midi-Deli at Hoher Markt, plus authentic French cuisine like tartines, quiches, grandes salades and – mon dieu! – tarte choco with liquid core ;-) The wine comes from the family’s winery, the walls have been artfully designed by Guilhem’s brother. Handgedruckt
Block Printing is one of the last craftmanships where really everything is done by hand. Art historian Elli Seeger is a master of this technique and has opened an atelier in the centre of Mauer. Using old models (she owns a huge collection) or via silk screen printing, she prints and handles high-quality fabrics: scarfs, pillows, bags, Hamam towels, baby bodies and home accessories are sporting the most wonderful patterns. Right next to the small shop is her workshop-room, where you can try out printing yourself or participate at workshops. Very neat!
