"Heya Girls!"
While we were sitting at home in quarantine, spring has exploded with an unbelievable blossom. So it's high time to take care of this year's vegetables. The City Farm in Augarten is holding a young plant sale on Friday and Saturday. (Bring a mask!) For green gourmands and organic eaters, they give away lots of organic vegetable plantlets for a donation: tomatoes in all colours and sizes, aubergines, colourful chard – suitable for balcony, garden and windowsill. If you don't want to grow the greens yourself, the farm GeLa Ochsenherz (photo) will help you. The wonderful farm, which is organised as community supported agriculture, still has boxes up for grabs! The way it works is that you buy a share of the harvest, which enables the farm in Gänserndorf to run a safe business and in return you receive a box with freshly harvested Demeter vegetables every week. Puntarella (asparagus chicory), herbs and cardoon (something like artichokes) included.

L'Hijâz'Car
Although they have already performed in Vienna, they are still considered a rather unknown insider tip. The five men of L'Hijâz'Car radiate raw, unbridled energy – and play modern compositions and sounds of the Mediterranean in a very unusual way that you hardly hear anymore these days. They skilfully mix musical liturgies in the tradition of the French composer Olivier Messiaen with trance music of the Tuareg and jazz. In 2017 they performed at the Sargfabrik, which is streaming the concert as an online gusto piece today. Music without borders!

Online Game Night
Online gaming: formerly frowned upon and in times of Corona an acceptable pastime. And so the annual gaming night at Rathaus will take place online this year. Game trends can be tried out digitally today until the wee hours of the morning. Popular are pen & paper role-playing games, for which you really only need writing utensils – the story takes place in your head. For the pub quiz, don't forget to cool the cider beforehand. Brain power will be needed for the "Crime Stories" and the digital escape rooms. Registrations by mail, Zoom links and game information are sent to you.

A few tricks for better pictures? Keep them coming! Because nothing is as sad as dark and blurred memories. Professional tips can be obtained today from Eric Berger, photographer and course instructor at the LIK Academy for Photo and Design. In the live webinar, beginners get an introduction to taking pictures in three sections. Contents are: Visions and secrets of the professionals, tricks for autofocus, shooting techniques in travel photography and correcting exposure. What you have learned will lead to having better pictures in your album in the future and all you have left to do is pose.

Unfortunately, we are not yet allowed to go into the Museum of Art History to the Beethoven exhibition (250th birthday!). But you don't have to: Beethoven can already be heard from two boxes in front of the entrance gate, dangling like balls of yarn from the corner towers. Sounds strange, weird somehow, but melodic and strangely familiar. That's because his probably most famous song "Für Elise" is played backwards! So, "esile rüf" then ;-) The sound installation was invented by the Turkish artist Ayse Erkmen. Sounds really cool, no matter if backwards, upside down or any other direction.

A Film A Day
Cultivated binge-watching on Friday evening! The well-known short film festival "dotdotdot" has mutated into a couch film festival and since March has uploaded two new short films every day from its archive. Now the collection is complete. All films can be streamed completely free of charge – without expiration date. "Maximum Penalty", for example, is a black-humoured one-shot wonder (without a single cut!) and "The Bigger Picture" was even nominated for an Oscar for best animated short film. With short films awarded in Cannes, there really is some top-class entertainment.

Design Flea Market at Tuulikki
This may not be within Vienna, but it's practically at the gates of the city: Finnish designer Susanne Tuulikki Riecker produces fashion in her studio shop in Neulengbach that catches the eye and yet is perfectly wearable for every occasion. The love of geometry (especially circles) and special fabrics is immediately apparent in the designs. But most of all: Each of the sewn or knitted pieces is always unique! At the 2-day design flea market with bargains from past collections, the stock is supposed to be reduced. Well, we can certainly help with that ;-)

Henrique Leitao
Sigh, these guitar sounds make your heart feel heavy. Fado virtuoso Henrique Leitao plays his melancholy songs for the "Club Weltenklang" tonight. The fadista sings of deep longing and love so soulfully and melancholically that it can sometimes bring tears to the eyes of those crossed in love. That's exactly what Fado (Portuguese for "fate") stands for, which lets you look deep into the soul and expresses the attitude towards life of the southerners. Whoever hears Leitao plucking the minor melodies on the guitarra portuguesa can feel that. The home concert is playing on YouTube.

Not recorded and definitely never been seen before: Tonight, the Volkstheater dares to present the first live theatre performance for the web. The performance will be a mini episode of the space thriller "Space Junk". The plot: thanks to robots, self-propelled cars and artificial intelligence, a quarter of humanity will be useless in 2053. Like weeds. Spaceships are ready for the flight to Utopia, but Eva's sleeping tank doesn't work and a corpse lies in the basement deck. It's all about survival. Launched by two Viennese ladies, a new project collects playful motifs and works by artists from all over the world online for colouring. Originally intended as a free painting template for children, the graphics are so beautiful, however, that we adults may also like them. As an enthusiastic embroiderer, CitySpotterGirl has also discovered cool motifs for Sunday stitching. If you scroll a little, you will find flower pictures with birds, cat and dog content, funny comic figures, cool graphic motifs and spacy alien creatures. All are printable for free!

Christoph Waltz directs Fidelio
Not very well known: top actor and Oscar winner Christoph Waltz also stages operas. And his version of Beethoven's "Fidelio" for the "Theater an der Wien" is an opera highlight in a class of its own. For his third opera production, he relied on a spectacular stage design. The singers act in a very reduced manner, without grand gestures – quite a different opera experience. Thanks to the streaming platform "fidelio" the modern Beethoven interpretation comes to our home. Free (how cool!) is the whole thing with the code on the theatre’s website.

Yoga with backfit exercises
Chop, chop, it's off to the yoga mat this morning! Not long anyway, only 30 minutes and the desk-bent back will surely feel better. During the yoga workout of the Caritas community against boredom, relaxed to exhausting exercises will help us back to a straight position. All of this is combined with breathing exercises, and the final relaxation exercise – Shavasana – is also a must. Those who manage to get out of bed even earlier on Mondays can also join the morning gymnastics class. Both are free of charge and can be accessed via Zoom without registration.

The Irish folk musician Seamie O'Dowd is considered one of the best on the Emerald Isle. In his home town Sligo he already enjoys legend status. As a one-man-band he accompanies himself with guitar and harmonica and plays traditional Irish melodies. His singing with a slightly hoarse voice sounds pleasantly melancholy and puts you in a cosy pub mood while listening. Models are available in black, dark red and white. They may not be as hip as the colourful fabric masks, but they do filter out the viruses – and when you wear them, you don't immediately feel close to fainting. Of course, even Konstantin Filippou's elegant noble restaurant will not be allowed to re-open until May 15th (yay!). But in the kitchen, it’s been a stormy affair for a while. For the company Porcella, which sells meat rarities from local organic farming online, dishes are "cooked into a jar". Lamb ragout, stifado from the Waldviertler Blondvieh, lentil sugo or Salsiccia sauce: filled into jars and pasteurised, the dishes can be stored in the refrigerator and are ready to be served in no time after a short warming up. Those ordering by Tuesday receive their delivery on Friday.
