"Heya Girls!"
Ladies, are you up for a really great program indulging your senses? Then you should let the fiery Pita win against the slow Kapha and pilgrimage to the Ayurveda Days that are happening this weekend for the first time. At MuseumsQuartier, you can experience first-hand the colourful range of the millennia-old Indian system of medicine: numerous Ayurveda specialists demonstrate how to balance body, mind, and soul there. At a market with Indian flair, you can stock up on spices, get information on trips to faraway India or Sri Lanka, nibble Ayurvedic delicacies, or rinse your organism with alkaline active water. Fine massages are offered in small lounges, you can primp yourself up with Henna tattoos or sink into doing some chair yoga. There are also fascinating talks and workshops: from beauty care to sleep problems!

Wishing you a balanced week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Anton Hartinger
Paradisus Vindobonensis
Since the Academy of Fine Arts is being renovated right now, the beautiful flower aquarelles from Anton Hartinger (1806-1890) are blossoming at Theatermuseum today. The Academy’s gallery of prints possesses almost 900 of his flower & plant depictions, some of which have now been selected for the exhibition. The drawings were originally produced for the preparation of the botanical deluxe publication “Endlicher’s Paradisus Vindobonensis”, after printing Hartiner sold them to the Academy as reference material for teaching. Today is vernissage!

For the party, Répertoire and Packpony will get some of their treasures plus bargains for shopping crazies of their storage and Biodeli opens its new terrace and chills beverages – beer and spritzer are only 2 €.

Dinner is served, cultures
Food brings people together and the way to peace leads through the stomach – we say, since it fits well right now here. Because today, on occasion of the UNESCO International Day of Intercultural Dialogue, they’re eating together at the Fest der Kulturen: 25 nations, including diplomats and political VIPs, beckon you to a Round Table at Sigmund Freud Park. Spicy tacos from Guatemala and cool Hibiscus juice from Senegal are just two of the ethno-treats they serve there. The multiculti event is being accompanied by some vocal and colourful music and folklore. Peace!

Mochi flea market
Today, we’re not primarily here for slurping noodle soup, but for shopping! The trendy ramen soup kitchen at Vorgartenmarkt is cleaning out its storage shelves and therefore they’re hosting an afternoon flea market in their garden. You can snatch some (surely pretty) tableware and some glasses, cooking utensils and all kinds of knick-knack found in Mochi’s tummy. There’s also a refreshing drink for the circulation and cool music, and no one says you can’t treat yourself to some delicious noodle soup. They’re also cooking as usual today, first come first serve!

Hemayat summer party
This could be a dream come true: who wants to fly to Marrakesh with André Heller and have him personally show you his paradise-like Anima garden? Or meet Konstantin Wecker in the artist’s dressing room in Grafenegg? Or dine with Ursula Strauss? For this, you have to go to Palais Schönburg tonight! They are auctioning off “time donations” by celebrities there at Hemayat’s summer party – in support of traumatized torture victims and war survivors who receive psychological help from Hemayat. You can join in the auction here. Plus: live music!

Long Night of Churches
More than 700 churches are open tonight in all of Austria (each with a special program) – with free concerts, readings, theatre, and tower climbing. In Vienna alone, 170 sacral locations are opening their doors and offer close to 1,000 activities! Aside from Karlskirche & co, the South tower of Breitenfelder Church in the 8thdistrict, for instance, offers an impressive city panorama, or you could go on a nocturnal flight to jazz, 80s hits, and Falco songs to the Baroque St. Josef Church in the 6th. Also great for discovering the city are the countless art & architecture guided tours.

Routes: European Journey in Vienna
CitySpotterGirl is an enthusiastic European and thinks all Brexits and the like are completely bonkers. That’s why kudos are in order to the great project “Routes”, with the goal to spread some positive European spirit! For that purpose, they are building 15 stations in Vienna today, each allowing you to experience a European country. At the station “Italy” you learn expressive hand gestures and in Bulgaria you write a postcard – in newly learned Cyrillic. You can choose from 6 (guided) tours with 3 countries each, on topics like “Leisure-Seekers” or “Language Enthusiasts”.

Care for a day in nature? A (not so small) part of Kaderka Park is available to Hernals inhabitants for gardening – the community garden Rosenberg is a true idyll with vegetable beds, garden shed, and old trees. Today, they are organising a little market here, offering all kinds of creative stuff: plant-dyed wool, cloth bags, acryl paintings, self-made cards, juices, jams, herbal salts, syrup, pesto, herbal oils, praline soaps, soaps, embroidery. A buffet with self-made creations and treats from the garden takes care of your physical well-being.

#Wien5 – the art of neighbourhood
A pretty funny story that’s happening around Hundsturm right now! Which is turned into the centre of the district festival for three days and at Volx-Theater Margareten, in parks, in flats, backyards, and club locations there will be playing, story-telling, performances, eating, singing, and partying. Today, for instance, curious people are seduced into home visits in the neighbourhood during “Margareten Mon Amour”, (former) homeless guides offer tours through the district, and the actors of the Volkstheater musical “Lazarus” are hosting a David Bowie-themed karaoke event at Hundsturmpark. Lots of hurly-burly!

Open bee hive day
Buzz, buzz, buzz, there are many buzzing around in Vienna, too! Bees are fascinating little animals that are currently hard at work everywhere, including urban areas. You can convince yourself of that on the Open Bee Hive Day, during which beekeepers from all over Austria present their bee colonies. In Vienna, for instance, you could swarm out to Döbling today, where beekeeper Hildegard tells people about beekeeping in the city in her “Werkraum Honig”. Plus, you can taste different products like mead or comb honey. And just like that, life is sweet as honey ;-)

Salon Jardin
Enchanting! A comfy garden chair that looks like an art object. A fine tasting of culinary-organics, accompanied by jazz under the open spring sky – that about sums up Salon Jardin! Normally, the gorgeous park of palace Hetzendorf is closed to the public. But for the garden salon it will be opened for three days: 60 exhibitioners present furniture, designs, florals, food and artisan crafts, plus there are “green” lectures and workshops. What’s new this time are smart start-ups that present their ideas, for example compostable chairs or intelligent flower pots.

 Vivian Maier
Vivian Maier
The finding of Vivian Maier’s works in 2009 has been quite the sensation. Pretty much over night, the US-American, who worked as nanny her whole life, became a star and many of her photographs, taken in the streets of New York and Chicago in the 1950s, became instant classics. Vivian Maier herself missed out on her worldwide success, she died in 2009 – only 2 years after her negatives and prints were auctioned off due to her financial difficulties. Now, about 100 of her sensational street photography works can be seen in Austria for the first time. Opening is today!

Farmland hiking at Rendezvousberg
Actions speak louder than words! Yet there are in fact so many possibilities to get involved in helping the environment, society or climate protection that you often hardly know where to start. Helpful input comes from the yearly “Days of Sustainability” which offer a variety of great nationwide events. In Vienna you can accompany environmental experts on a hike across the farmland north of the city, follow in the tracks of gophers and red-backed shrikes and learn interesting facts about the fauna there, contractual nature conservation, insects and wild field herbs.

Hannah Epperson
A violin, a loop pedal and a special, enchantingly tender voice – that’s all Hannah Epperson needs to cast her spell on you. The Canadian is floating somewhere between pop and quiet violin music, which is also reflected in her two-part album project called “Slowdown/Upsweep” showing both of her musical sides. The work of the artist now living in New York has always been shaped by her numerous travels as well as frequent collaborations with colleagues from various genres, which makes her repertoire so versatile and refreshing. Vienna Boylesque Festival
Burlesque is okay but the Boylesque Festival does you one better than lascivious lolling in sexy outfits! After all, for the (not clearly recognisable) men and ostentatious wonder creatures, the event under the motto “Vienna is burning” is all about tolerance and diversity. Fleurs de Paris
Opinions vastly differ here. For some, roses are only beautiful in their natural habitat on a bush or freshly cut in a vase, others find the new trend of preserved rose super practical. The flowers are cut at the time of their most beautiful flowering and are conserved using a proprietary solution. Like this, arranged head to head in elegant boxes, they can last up to three years. In Vienna, you can buy these decorative bouquets in a boutique at Goldenes Quartier. The roses are available in almost 20 different colours, the boxes range in size from “Mini” to “Luxe”. They make a perfect gift as well!

Hollerkoch
To be upfront about it: the menu’s not as traditional as the name might lead you to believe. Hollerkoch (an elderberry dish) was simply the favourite childhood dish of the likable young chef Marcus Krapfenbauer. Now the Modul-graduate has chosen an interesting location near Gersthofer Platzl for his first venue (with cosy surprise tables in the backyard!). Pretty and light, with passion for detail and a menu that’s not too extensive. But everything’s really tasty, from Orient salad with falafel to lunch menu zander. Soon he also wants to offer breakfast, but you can already get pie and great coffee now!
