"Heya Girls!"
Half of Vienna has already jetted off on holiday, but you can still get that holiday feeling without travelling. It's supposed to get hot again in our favourite city this weekend. So on Sunday, you could escape to the water, for example on the wakeboard lift (photo). Or cool off in the city's underground. Or go for a walk in the treetops, bury your toes in the sand, solve historical murders in the city thanks to Augmented Reality, or plunge down the Danube Tower's on the worst slide, the highest in Europe, in a glass tube. I will pass on the latter, but a massage at the glamorous Aisawan Spa or a search for the secret code in the pleasantly cold Stephansdom are tempting options. You can discover all these ideas and much more in my brand-new book “Sonntag in Wien”. You can check out a reading sample here. You will find so many suggestions (including some unusual ones) that the 52 Sundays of the coming year won't be enough to try them all ;-) In any case, it will make Vienna feel like a holiday!
Wishing you a relaxed week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Hat Courage
Admittedly, they are not really that far in the front of the brigade of fashion accessories. Yet hats are so multifaceted and sometimes even have impressive transformation skills, as designer Wally Jungwirth demonstrates. Under her label thatsart, she creates hat models that can be folded flat and then return to their original shape undamaged! Also impressive: the designs from Sylvia Fedorova's bobbin lace collection, which are reminiscent of the ancient crowns of Egyptian queens. Both can currently be admired at Galerie V&V!

Mapping the 60ies
Now the events on display are not as brand-new as the exhibition itself. Because “Mapping the 60ies” is based on the idea that many socio-political movements of the 21st century have their roots in the 1960s. Black Lives Matter and #MeToo, for example, are based on the anti-racist and feminist movements of the time, as are the current discussions about war and mechanisation. Like a creative history book, the exhibition uses artworks and publications to show the historical connections between events and artists. Fascinating!

Pilates & Drinks at Indigo Hotel
Madonna, Miranda Kerr and Cindy Crawford have all long been Pilates addicts. No wonder, the secret of great charisma lies above all in a graceful posture, which is created by strengthening and mobilising the core and lower back. You can do the same as the VIP graces today with a Pilates session on the idyllic terrace of the Indigo Hotel. And afterwards: delicious drinks and socialising! PS: Please bring your own mat, and if the weather is bad, the body-tuning will be happening in the adjoining meeting room instead!

Picknick by the Water
With the current temperatures, we’d like to move the dining room outside! To wooden jetties, stone terraces and lush greenery, for example. Because that’s right where La Creperie has settled down serving French cuisine – which romantics can also enjoy as a moonlight picnic with baguette and prosecco on a boat. There is also an optional 'royal' version with crémant, hors d'oeuvres platter, smoked salmon, roast beef, prawns and tete de moine. You can find even more inspiration for Sunday planning in the new book “Sonntag in Wien” (Sunday in Vienna) by your CitySpotterGirl!

Sommer Rhapsodie
Admittedly, the ambience in the historic Liechtenstein Garden Palace is atmospheric in itself. But at today's festival opening, a real vocal giant will give you goosebumps: Together with Wolfgang Puschnig, the celebrated jazz singer Simone Kopmajer shines with musical fireworks. This year you can also look forward to performances by greats such as Birgit Minichmayr and Christoph Grissemann. Once again, you can feast in the idyllic ambience of the Hofkellerei, ranging from canapés and sparkling wines to a multi-course menu. Something for all the senses!

The Last Days of Democracy
Creepy, ingenious and utterly fascinating! Ten years ago, to mark the centenary of the First World War, Deborah Sengl used 200 prepared white rats to stage 44 scenes from Karl Kraus's play The Last Days of Mankind. The artist reinterpreted the classic work, which captures the mood of the times very well, using the food-rats and drawings to bring an unsavoury past to life. Now these very same rats are back: 16 scenes from the original exhibition have been selected and brought up the present with texts by the writer Lydia Haider. A must see!

Romeo & Juliet
Verona will be located in Währing until the end of July: Because in order to mark the 460th anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth, the most famous love story will be performed in the open air at Schloss Pötzleinsdorf: What if your first true love was someone you were supposed to hate? Romeo and Juliet, torn apart by the bitter separation of their parents, risk everything to be together. Will this spark a revolution or will the generation gap continue? You will learn the answer to this tonight in an original English-language version!

Dieter Nuhr: Elsewhere is Everywhere
Dieter Nuhr is known to many as a cabaret artist, but it is less known that the humorous German also has artistic talent. From today, his photographic works and paintings, in which Nuhr's home region, the Ruhr, plays a central role, will be on display over 900 sqm at the Kunstforum. What’s special: The artist subjects his photographs and drawings to elaborate digital processing, robbing them of their uniqueness. This artistic alienation is Nuhr's way of exploring the duality of strangeness and familiarity, distance and proximity.

Bees in the City
“And the bee that I mean ...” – well, in this case it's more like 450 very different black and yellow striped buzzers! Because that's how many bee species are at home in our favourite city. In today's guided tour with NHM researcher Dominique Zimmermann, those interested will be introduced to the projects researching the wild bee fauna at the Natural History Museum and can learn all about how science is focusing on conserving these important pollinators. A walk afterwards will also explore the potential of flowering areas in the city!

Jana Wieland
Big news for fashion queens: Jana Wieland has opened her first physical store! On 33 square metres in Zollergasse, you can now not only find the typical shirt silhouette pieces, but also the new bridal fashion collection for the first time. And it is anything but classic white, but in the typical “bow sleeve shirt” look, in fairy-like sorbet colours and with lots of transparency, as casual as it is romantic. You can wear it again for other occasions after the big day. The bridal wear is also at the heart of the minimalist boutique, alongside metallic cabin curtains, and floats light as a feather from the ceiling. So magical and so Jana Wieland – we love!
