"Heya Girls!"
For all those who love dancing, the best part of the year starts this week: For five weeks, the international dance and performance scene will gather for its reunion in Vienna. The first days already offer great choreographers, venturesome newcomers and a boisterous workshop and party atmosphere. The grand dame of contemporary choreography will enter the stage in person at the weekend: Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker will be dancing together with Michael Pomero through Rainer Maria Rilke’s story “The Love and Death of Cornet Cristopher Rilke” at the Odeon. They will be accompanied only by a transverse flutist. Wim Vandekeybus will let men fly to music by David Byrne, and Chris Haring’s work “Candy’s Camouflage” (picture) will lead the audience into the inside of the gender circuit. Those who will have been infected by the dancing bug by then, do not only have the possibility of admiring every kind of modern dance at the festival during one month, but also participate in more than 250 workshops. Shake it, baby!
Wishing you a high-spirited week

Ai Weiwei: translocation – transformation
Vienna will really be a hotspot for modern art until November! For the first time, star-artist Ai Weiwei will be showing a large individual presentation in Austria. The exhibition will not only focus on his own “nomadic” biography, but also on the current refugee crisis. The Chinese conceptual artist built an ancient ancestral temple of the Ming dynasty (that was assembled from 1300 single parts) in the “21er Haus” and used 2,5 tons of antique teapot spouts to create a carpet. Lotus blossoms made of life vests are swimming in the baroque pond situated in the park of Belvedere Palace. The sensation of this summer!

Second Selly
Who doesn’t know the following scenario: A must-have item that somehow looked gorgeous when you tried it on in the shop but doesn’t really fit now and so gets banished to the furthest corner of your wardrobe. It would be doomed to lead quite a miserable life there if “Second Selly” didn’t ensure its glorious resurrection. This doesn’t only save resources and avoid waste, but makes others happy as well. For two days, the second-hand pop-up boutique in Ankerbrot’s former bread factory will transform bad buys into favourite pieces which can be purchased for bargain prices. Merci!

Single-Barbecue at Danube Island
“Are you single, are you alone, do you have time for me tonight?” Sorry Mr. Prokopetz, goodbye dear catchy tune from the 80s, no time for you! Time for the single barbecue (40+ only!) at the Danube Island with a nice programme that encourages togetherness: Ice-breaker games, drumming together, swimming, sitting around the barbecue fire and hoping you might click ;-) By the way, non-singles are welcome as well – the most important thing is that no one spends a beautiful summer evening sitting alone at home! And please don’t forget mosquito spray and a picnic blanket.

Night at the high rope course
A cool excursion tip for adventurous night owls: During the summer, you can go climbing late in the evening at the high rope course on Kahlenberg. Hundreds of lampions provide a romantic atmosphere in the branches of the giant trees every Friday and Saturday when the sun sets. In addition, headlamps can be borrowed on request. You can test your skills on different courses with shaky nets and wobbly rope bridges. Flying Foxes, which enable you to speed from tree to tree, add another adrenalin boost. The view up to the treetops and down to the city lights is simply breathtaking!

Ulrich & Erich Rutschpartie
Due to the heat, one is really going a little bit gaga – and open for every kind of cooling. So, what about a 75 meter long waterslide with a difference in height of 6 meters that allows speeds at which your bikini might no longer stay in place? Such a stylish city-slide exists thanks to the initiative of the fraternal bars Ulrich & Erich at Ulrichsplatz. You can slide across the church square for three days, and a style-competition will take place after Friday’s speed-race ;-) Cool drinks, Steckerlfisch, Veganista ice cream and DJ-sounds will provide even more merry cheerfulness.

„The Work“ with Byron Katie
Get out of the destructive thought pattern that goes round and round! The formula for success of world-famous bestselling author Byron Katie is quite simple: It makes a huge difference what we think and how we relate to our thoughts because they are responsible for our happiness and satisfaction. During the all-day workshop that will take place today, the charismatic writer teaches “The Work”, a method she developed herself. Since she learned that her thoughts had caused all her suffering, Byron Katie has been sharing her knowledge on how to rethink and lead a happy life.

Special Offers at “Schuhe für Frauen”
This is what women want: comfortable shoes – but rather trendy, brightly coloured pumps and sandals than embarrassing health shoes. At the moment, a huge range is sold off at Gertraud Buxhofer’s store! Individual pairs of shoes and items from previous collections will be on sale until mid August. By the way, they are all made in Europe with special focus on wearing comfort – such as the incredibly beautiful wooden clogs by Viennese designer Nina Bernert which are produced in the fourth district directly next to the CitySpotterGirl. They can be purchased now for €99.

Summer sale at Kastlwerkstatt
Very original! From now on, (almost) everything that burns is reduced by 30 % in Hietzing’s “Kastlwerkstatt”. This refers to tea lights, candles, chandeliers and funny upcycling items like hat lamps – handmade by owner Monica Weinzettl who, being a cabaret artist, emits sparks of creativity ;-) By the way, everything made from wire such as birdcages, floating shelves and pretty hanging baskets as well as seasonal items for the garden like camping bird houses are also reduced by one third. For the sake of completeness: Although the decoupage papers in the shop would be ablaze too, they are not included.

Summer Sale at “mein design”
Give me fabric, baby! For her label “La Schachtula”, Ulrike Eckerstorfer uses traditional fabric with checks and stripes from Mühlviertel and transforms them into original design items for house and home. These days – listen up, craftswomen! – she gives away lots of fabric remnants such as jacquard linen, honeycomb pique and cotton. Each package will be sold for €5! Other labels at “mein design” reduced their prices too. The young fashion label “Masi” from Linz sells its trendy knitwear reduced by 25 %, and “ruins of modernity” sells selected individual items even with as much as 80 % off!

Katie Kern
Katie Kern is the woman with the great voice who never travels without her guitar and country-rock songs written by herself. The native Styrian didn’t learn that only at Vienna Conservatory, but directly in the Mecca for country music – Nashville/Tennessee. Each year, she lives there for several months in order to listen to the great artists of the scene and write her own songs. Today, she will take the audience, with earthy grooves and poetic texts, on a journey from Americana to outlaw country to contemporary Nashville pop. And since it’s a public concert at WUK, the entry is free. Worth a listen!

Full moon ride at the Old Danube
Finally an event for the Romantics amongst us: Hopefully in fair weather, you can let your feelings boom unopposed and go on a boat trip on the Old Danube, enjoying the full moon and the mild evening air. The local boat rental companies will extend their opening hours so you can cruise to the most romantic spaces until shortly before midnight – hopefully in charming company and, in any case, with a bottle of Prosecco which is included in the price. Sailing boats, rowing boats, electric boats and pedal boats will be at your disposal for the nightly excursion. Aloha oe!

de Ruts
When a concert will take place at Superspense in the magnificent Dogenhof, you can go there without checking first what kind of concert it will be because its audio-analogue-section consists of music experts who are well versed as far as rooting up musical treats is concerned. This evening, the multicultural group “de Ruts” will perform here. The Austrian singer of the otherwise French-Chilean trio is touring through Europe at the moment – and this will be the only concert she will give in Vienna. All those who are still not sure can listen and groove into the Chilean-inspired happy sound here.

Wiener Buch Boutique
The concept is clear and simple and the new small bookstore at Wieden’s Elisabethviertel shows itself without many bells and whistles. However, it provides even more high quality content! Literature lover Marion Oeller’s simply furnished shop offers a range of good reads exclusively from Austria. Well, at least almost, because next to picture volumes and the work of renowned as well as up-and-coming local authors there is a book written by Joachim Meyerhoff – he is acting at the Burgtheater, after all ;-) Of course you can also find the books written by the CitySpotterGirl on the shelves!

Restaurant of the Week
Tipps der Stadtspionin
Three very young people from Krems and surroundings have set out to try their luck in the fourth district. Just around the corner of the CitySpotterGirl, an existing restaurant has been renovated and renewed in record time. Trendy modern lamps have been installed above the old bar. The kitchen reflects the biography of the owners – one of the Ruhm brothers returned from Singapur just for this restaurant project. Therefore you cannot miss the Asian influence: Sashimi salad with sea trout from Traisental, Chicken Kushiyaki and curry at noon. Incredibly committed, incredibly friendly!
