"Heya Girls!"
Well, there was a lot of discussion this week! Heidi Horten, the richest woman in the country, has built a museum for her impressive art collection in the 1st district. The fact that the Viennese-born lady has a top-class collection only became known four years ago – she showed an exhibition in the Leopold Museum that was rightly entitled “Wow”. Picasso was there, Klimt, Klee, Warhol. The show was literally stormed by the public. This makes a visit to the new museum all the more surprising. Instead of presenting famous paintings in a classic way, Horten had an old palace gutted and transformed into a modern, architecturally highly unusual exhibition house. To celebrate the architecture, only a few works of art are exhibited in the first show, mostly by young artists. No Picasso, no Klimt. The woman has guts! The Heidi Horten Collection opens this Friday. And on Thursday evenings, the museum can be visited for free!

Wishing you an exciting week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Mineni Atelier
Espadrilles Pop Up
Mineni is actually a fine Viennese fashion label for children. But since parents were so enthusiastic about the pretty espadrilles for the little ones, they are now also available for adults. The summery shoes (for him and her) not only look smart but are also sustainable. The comfortable eye-catchers – all made of suede leather – are handmade in the Spanish atelier and thus support local handicraft made-in-Europe. The espadrilles are available as sandals (85 €) and in closed form (89 €) – you can buy them today at pop up. And summer drinks will also be served ;-)

 Renate Kordon
Dresses of Light
Feminist, playful and humorous: Renate Kordon painted the wild period monsters of her menstruation. The resulting watercolours, which colourfully and often wittily depict female bodily states during the period, were then projected onto the body – and thus became dresses of light. Not the worst method for capturing monsters ;-) The photos taken during the performances were published in a beautifully made Fotohof edition (yes, you can also buy them!) – and it is precisely this edition with the dresses of light that is presented today at the Christine König Galerie.

Elis Noa
An interesting sound that ranges from pop to contemporary RnB to future soul: the Viennese electronic soul duo Elis Noa – Aaron and Elisa – met during their time at the University of Music. The intimacy and depth of their songs make you sit up and take notice, the sound is soulful and elegant – the two make music in search of honest reflection on their lives. The new album “I Was Just About to Leave” describes the process of letting go in all its phases and its slowness, from pain to acceptance. You can listen in here or tonight at the Porgy.

Gurl! The Ladies*Night
A party without any nasty pick-up lines and unpermitted groping? Yes, there is – starting today, every first Friday of the month at the Babenberger Passage. Presented by the country's most famous drag queen Tamara Mascara, only gurls are admitted: ladies, madames, misses, gurls and of course their gay besties. Destiny Drescher and Katy Bähm from Berlin will be on the turntables, and the hostess of the evening will really fire up the crows during the warm-up from 23:00. It gets even hotter from midnight onwards when international gogo boys shake their booties ;-) Dress code: whatever you want. Merci, Tamara!

 Christine de Grancy
Christine de Grancy: Furor and Folly
She is one of the great Austrian photographers: Christine de Grancy, who celebrates her 80th birthday this year. The Theatermuseum is showing an exhibition of her theatre photography from today. The focus is on 400 photos of legendary productions that she accompanied and documented during her time at the Burg and Akademietheater at rehearsals, performances and guest appearances. The show is thus also a reencounter with great actors of the local theatre scene such as Elisabeth Orth, Erika Pluhar or Michael Heltau. Particularly beautiful: the pictures away from the stage, in quiet, intimate moments.

Lina & Raül Refree
You make history by breaking the rules. This duo sensation, lavished with awards, brings together the young Portuguese fado singer Lina and one of Europe's most innovative producers, Raül Refree. With their joint album, they have reinvented Fado – while retaining the rich beauty of the melodies and the aching poetry of the words that are such an important part of fado. “Groundbreakingly new” was the verdict of critics, still bittersweet, however. You can listen in here. The perfect music for the 21st century.

Sounds a bit like a big clean, or does Marie Kondo have her fingers in the pie? In any case, the Kunsthalle's radically clears out its shop and merchandising warehouse and the finds will be sold off in a 2-day flea market at MuseumsQuartier. Meaning: posters, catalogues, stationery, T-shirts, jumpers, bags, adhesive tapes, notepads, mugs, books, ribbons, pins, postcards, magazines, lots of merch and much more are up for grabs at mini prices! Well, if that's not a reason to take a walk to the MQ. By the way, the proceeds go to the “Train of Hope” initiative.

 Schubert Theater
Wahlkampf der Tiere
Two maggots from antiquity, a rat from the underground, a boar as a former general and a mysterious rabbit: strange creatures are gathering in Arne Karlsson Park in the Ninth today. The Schubert Theater is calling for an animalistic election campaign and is sending revolting rats into the ring as well as maggots whose thinking and rhetoric could come from a certain Mr. Trump. Does animalistic political behaviour differ from human behaviour? The theatre with puppets starts in the courtyard in front of the Schubert Theatre, from there we walk into the park. The premiere is today!

Garden Days at Klosterneuburg Abbey
A tip for friends of greenery, just outside the city gates: for centuries the convent garden of Klosterneuburg Abbey, which is not accessible to visitors, has served the Augustinian canons as a place of meditation and relaxation. In the Biedermeier period, the architect Josef Kornhäusel created the Orangerie in this “secret garden” – a small palm house that has long been considered a classicist jewel. In this romantic setting, a sea of flowers now awaits the garden paradise at home for five days: roses, cacti, herbs, garden accessories – from a total of over 20 exhibitors.

Weibs-Bilder
Four real females deal with being a woman. The performance has already been acclaimed at the Musikverein and the Berlin Konzerthaus, today it's the Theater im Park's turn. Angelika Kirchschlager, Ulrike Beimpold, Maria Happel and Arabella Cortesi wander through literature and music history with female power and verve. Texts, songs and music take a close look at women's roles – from Bertha von Suttner to Clara Schumann. This guarantees a tremendous focus of emotion, passion, social criticism and humour! A real firework of “Weibs-Bilder”.

Encantado
A choreography developed in the favelas of Rio! Bacteria, cashews and avocados. Bees, algae, moon and stars. When Lia Rodrigues, an important South American choreographer, tells of being enchanted with her Companhia de Dancas, the most diverse beings meet in an amazing dance. Movements drift from body to body – water becomes centipede becomes mushroom. In an enchanted – encantado – way, the world beyond human category thinking comes into its own. Apart from the dancers, colourful sheets play the leading role.

Extremely chic, amazing view – and only for club members: the rooftop restaurant “Grand Etage” on the 8th floor of the Ringstrasse Hotel Grand Ferdinand is probably one of the most exclusive places in the city – with pool, roof terrace and all the trimmings. Now you can dine here “publicly” or have an after-work drink in a super stylish ambience every Tuesday, too., Only the best and not quite cheap, of course – but it’s not like you treat yourself to anything else, after all ;-) Seating is limited, so reservations are a must, mesdames! First aid for mental crises
Still a taboo subject! Our bodies get treated as a matter of course in the case of physical injuries, but everyone still finds it difficult to deal with psychological problems. And that’s why hardly anyone knows what to do when colleagues, family or friends struggle with mental problems. How do you recognise signs of mental crises? How do you best approach those affected? What should be taken into consideration when communicating with people in psychological crises? The subject matter expert Susanne Leitner will explain today how lay people can best deal with this situation. Psychosocial first aid!

Brazil
It all began with the marriage of Archduchess Maria Leopoldine of Austria to the Portuguese heir to the throne, Dom Pedro, in 1817. To celebrate the marriage, a huge expedition to Brazil was initiated that brought tens of thousands of objects from South America to Vienna. The common history of the two countries is the starting point of the exhibition, which is dedicated to Brazil's unique natural spaces – the evergreen rainforest of Amazonia, the dense wilderness of the Atlantic Forest and the pale vegetation of the “White Forest” in the Caatinga.

Andrea Lems' goal with her concept store is to bring mainly small brands from all over the world, founded by women, to Vienna. All at reasonable prices! And among the pretty things are the sustainable (also vegan) leather bags from her own label NEAT.

It's quite rare to be asked to forgo the cutlery and eat with your fingers in a restaurant. But the friendly lady at Modi was right: Georgian khinkali, or filled dumplings, taste best this way. The khachapuri (freshly baked bread filled with cheese) is also delicious, and this you can eat with fork and knife again. Since everything in this Georgian specialty restaurant is freshly prepared, it’s possible that the meal may sometimes take a bit longer. But that doesn't matter, the warmth here easily makes up for it. After all, Modi means “come in” in English.
