"Heya Girls!"
Now I have actually gone and cheated. No, not what you think ;-) I have written a new book – but this time not for my own publishing house, but for the colleagues of Styria. Our goal was quite modest: We just wanted to create the most beautiful and up-to-date venue guide to Vienna there is. What can I say: mission accomplished! “Genießen in Wien” has become a wonderful book, and because self-praise is a bit tricky, you can take a look here at what the first readers have to say about it. For “Genießen in Wien”, I have eaten my way through all of Vienna and its surroundings, so it's no wonder that the book has become quite big, too. From street food to breakfast, from rooftop bars to waterfront restaurants, from country outings to my favorite markets, you'll find everything that makes Vienna so special. You can buy the book in all bookstores or in the web shop, you can watch a video about it – but most of all I would be happy if you came to Thalia on Thursday. I will present the book for the first time there and you are cordially invited!

Wishing you an extra nice week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Vienna City Gallery Walk
Today you have to choose: either taking a leisurely stroll or really going for speed. Either watch a few gems or work through the entire tour. Because at the Vienna City Gallery Walk, more than 40 galleries are now presenting a diverse programme for three days, with numerous exhibition openings and guided art tours. Even a botanical-musical tour called “Forbidden Fruits” to exhibitions with the theme plant world takes place. Photographs, paintings, sculptures and jewellery: it all starts at 16:00 – and there's plenty to discover.

Sbin & Roee Pop-up
After Fashion Week is before Fashion Week. Last week, the Viennese labels presented their latest creations together at the Vienna Fashion Week – and now, without much ado, they bring the looks from the runway into their pop-up store! So if you want to shop fresh off the catwalk, you can stop by Burggasse until 29 September. In addition to the winter collection (solemn simplicity at Sbin and elaborate processing techniques at Roee), the store also offers a fine selection of jewelry and porcelain pieces from selected Viennese manufacturers.

Sbin, Burggasse 22, 1070 Vienna. Until 29 September Tue-Fri 11:00 to 18:30, Sat 10:00 to 16:00. Web

Sam Weber
Guitar or piano? Sam Weber likes both – and can do both, too. The Canadian songwriter formed his first rock'n'roll band in his living room at the age of 12 with his father and brother. Today, Weber takes a bit of a quieter approach and inspires with unagitated folk rock that doesn't carry an ounce of fat too much on its hips. The musical icing on the cake is provided by his girlfriend, Mallory Hauser, who enhances the pieces with tender background vocals. You can hear what this sounds like at Haus der Musik, where Sam is presenting his new album “Get free” today.

 Lilo's
Vintage Design Pop-up
When the who's who of Vienna's vintage interior scene gets together for a pop-up, you should stop by as a sleuth of exquisite peculiarities. Lilo's will join forces with Bananas, Design Lichtblick, Banc Public and Frank Frühwirth to present colorful furnishing and lifestyle rarities from the 1920s to the 1970s. In addition to furniture and accessories, fashion jewelry, vases, kitchen utensils, decorative objects and otherwise hard-to-get records will also be on offer. And for a little refreshment, snacks à la française are served.

Lilo’s in der Brotfabrik, Absberggasse 27, 1100 Vienna. 23 September 14:00 to 20:00, 24 September 10:00 to 20:00. Web

Winter-Veggie Young Plant Market
Snoresville in the frozen patches? As if! Delicacies like pink kale, green pak choi, or leaf mustard flourish in the winterly cold as well. Meaning: the next vegetable season starts right now! If we want to harvest fresh greens in winter with frost and snow, we have to plant now. And that's why City Farm Augarten once again organises the Vienna Winter Vegetable Young Plant Market. Over 2 days, they sell winter-hardy greens such as garden lettuces, arugula, dock, spinach and winter purslane. Because autumn winter’s spring ;-)

Flea Market at magdas-Hotel
For those who don't know yet: the magdas-Hotel is moving! The home of the first social business hotel in Austria (making it cool just for that reason alone) will soon no longer be at the Prater, but in the third district. And because not all of the designery furnishings – keyword: vintage – are moving with it, they’ll have a flea market at the old location in the Prater today. Comfortable armchairs, bedside tables, practical desks and odds and ends with a hotel past are waiting. So everyone can secure a piece of magdas history. After water damage, the new hotel will not open until October.

Wine Hike Day
It's Wine Hike Day in Vienna! Yes, even couch potatoes will be happy, because apart from the hiking, you can feast your way through various wineries and taverns on 4 routes. Joining this year: KunstMichMal. Sometimes loud, then quiet, sometimes wild, then tender, the troupe presents cabaret and performances in places that are not really associated with art – for example, on a meadow between vines or at the Biohof Nº5. With clowning, juggling, acrobatics, magic and dance, they provide a good mood today, while the band Diwan brings the evening to a cosy close.

Pots and Blitz Design Market
Egyptian craftsmanship meets Styrian ceramics, inspired by Scandinavian simplicity. All this and more will be on offer this weekend at the “Pots und Blitz” ceramic design market in the MuseumsQuartier. Around 50 exhibitors from 8 countries will present their handmade goods: From everyday ceramics like cups and plates to (sometimes wonderfully weird) sculptures and jewellery with ceramic elements, there's everything! Especially nice: vases with engraved poems in sgraffito technique by claude ceramics and the “wrapped” stoneware by the Finnish artist Soile Paasonen.

It's getting wild again in the West! Once started as an interim use project in the Sophienspital, Wild im West on the Neuer Wiener Markt has its Sunday themed market until October, where art and culture as well as wining and dining find their home. Today's theme: art and design. From illustrations to street art to performative performances, everything creative is on offer here that’s cheery and puts you in a good mood. Among other things, the unusual menstrual must-haves from Rotmarie! Who, by the way, will also be selling CitySpotterGirl’s book “Das Buch der Tage” there today.

Monument Day
A discovery tour in your own city: On today's Monument Day, hidden treasures that are otherwise closed to the public can be visited all over Austria – more than 50 places in Vienna alone. And all of them for free! Extra exciting are the places that are otherwise not so easy to get to: such as the “Turkish Salon” in the Hofburg or the “Villa Rezek” near the Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark. Built in the 1930s, the former doctor's residence has huge terraces from which you can look out over the whole of Vienna. The villa is currently being renovated, site tours are only offered today!

Graf Bobby and Baron Mucki
Yeah, you have to treat yourself to some light entertainment every now and then. ;-) In this musical comedy, the playboy and impoverished Count Bobby and his friend Baron Mucki have blown their last money on dog racing. But fate is kind to them and they inherit an entire castle – whose walls are haunted by the purest madness! The play features well-known hits like “So richtig nett ist's nur im Bett” or “Komm ein bisschen mit nach Italien”. And when audience favorite Jazz Gitti sings “Ich will keine Schokolade, ich will lieber einen Mann”, you got a perfect Sunday.

Photo Walk Inzersdorf
Now that's a neighbourhood you don't come to every day. A good opportunity to get to know Inzersdorf on a photo walk – a district where nostalgia and modernity are particularly close. The façade of the former Inzersdorf food factory, for example, can be found right next to the impressive concrete structures and countless pillars of the Südosttangente and its feeder roads. Armed with your camera, you will roam this corner of the 23rd district in the early evening under guidance and at your leisure – exciting for long-time residents and newbies alike.

Marlene Engelhorn: Money
Cash, dough, loot – money rules the world, one would think. Marlene Engelhorn sees it differently, because she wants to donate 90 percent of her two-digit million inheritance. In her book, she explains why there’s no way she wants to end up as a philanthropic capitalist à la Gates & co, why she wants to be taxed for her wealth and what political wealth distribution is really about. With a sharp pen, Engelhorn dissects our relationship to money and shows that fair redistribution can only work democratically. The book will be presented today in conversation with journalist Robert Misik.

Italian Street Food
Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Singapore – all well-known and much-loved street food meccas. Italy is less likely to come to mind, even though the boot-shaped country has a very rich and diverse street food scene. Today, private chef Bruno Ciccaglione shows in his cooking course how you’ll succeed in making the to-go dishes at home. Up to 12 cooking enthusiasts can take part in kneading, baking, boiling and deep-frying. After the menu of the evening is presented over a glass of Prosecco, it's time to get down to business. And at the end, the self-concocted food will be devoured together, of course!

At the Tröpferlbad
Showering only once a week and no bathroom of one's own: what sounds unthinkable today were hygiene standards not so long ago. Starting today, the new permanent exhibition in the original Tröpferlbad in the fourth district tells the story of Vienna's shower bath culture and hygiene development since the 18th century. Also on display: an old bath attendant's smock and bathing regulations from around 1900. Visitors can also try on bathing aprons specially made for the exhibition, which were compulsory to wear when showering in the Tröpferlbad until the middle of the 20th century.

Acupuncture in the salt cave
Just taking a relaxed breath – that can really save the day sometimes! Claudia Radbauer shows how acupuncture and salt inhalation can help using her treatments in the style of traditional Chinese medicine TCM. Whether for asthma, for revitalisation in case of exhaustion or for simple hay fever – while the corresponding acupuncture points are activated, you’re lying on a lounger with nice lighting and some chill music and breathe in anti-inflammatory and cleansing “white gold” (salt from Austria's first salt cave). Every Wednesday from today!

Danube Island Dancing
The warm season is unfortunately coming to an end, but the summer dancing on the Danube Island is being extended. Yippee! There, the Folklore Dance Club teaches lively circle and chain dances today, always without contact and with social distancing. The programme mainly features dances from South-Eastern Europe and the surrounding regions – they have a lot of rhythm. Not every step has to be perfect, the important thing is to enjoy the movement. And because it's so much fun, they won’t let even the rain stop them. In that case, they’ll just twirl under the Reichsbrücke.

Feder_Kleid.
This much is obvious here: it's the combination that counts. This starts as soon as you enter the showroom of Viennese designers Julie Strom and Johanna Adlaoui Mayerl. The raw brick walls make their creations look even more feminine. But Julie's playful upcycled pieces (such as a fitted dress made from bed sheets) and Johanna's timeless looks for modern seafaring women (delicate sailor blouses or cool striped overalls) also harmonise well in contrast. There's also a nice thought behind it all because everything is made in Vienna – without any middlemen or outsourced production.

Cafe Rondell
Traffic on the Höhenstraße will pick up significantly, because life has returned to Cobenzl! Motto boss Bernd Schlacher has spruced up the entire area: the Schloss and the Meierei on Cobenzl as well as the legendary coffee house, together now called “Weitsicht Cobenzl”. With its elegant retro charm, the new Cafe Rondell is reminiscent of the previous building from the 1950s, except that now everything is in a class of its own: you eat better, you sit better and everything looks better than before. Only the view of Vienna below is as legendary as ever!
