"Heya Girls!"
Who here has ever been to Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny? Gorgeous! At least in theory because in reality you can hardly see what kind of paradise the impressionist artist created as a painting model with all those tourists. But I know a Monet garden in which you are practically alone. No kidding, it’s in the 22nd district! The teaching garden Kagran unites several beautiful theme gardens – and they are (at free entry!) open to everybody in July and August! You can relax there contentedly and sit in the grass. Just being lazy and unwind. Lounging in a garden chair. Stroll across the Monet bridge or watch the Koi in the pond of the Asia garden cheerfully bubbling from the wooden deck. If you prefer it intellectual style, simply get to know Shakespeare’s plants in the garden of the same name. This is how you do summer in the city!

Wishing you a relaxed week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Frollein Smilla
Danceballadsouljazzpirateslovefunk. Makes sense, no? The eight-member Berlin combo don’t mince their words. They don’t care about genres but captivate everyone with their irresistible way. Funky guitar riffs with gentle piano sounds, dirty pirate choirs with romantic accordion, heavy brass lines in the souly lead singing! The band’s success story happened the wrong way around, by the way: first, there was a name and a date for the first concert, only then the friends got it together and started writing the first songs. Today they present the new, second album “Freak Cabaret”.

Karl-Markus Gauß reads at MQ
Literature in the open air: today, Karl-Markus Gauß reads from his new book at the O-Töne Literaturfestival in the atmospheric main courtyard of MuseumsQuartier. In his “Abenteuerliche Reise durch mein Zimmer”, the star writer goes on a journey for which he doesn’t need to leave the room but which leads him through many ages and many countries. It’s always in the ordinary where he discovers the diversity and the richness of the world. Until the end of August there is a reading every Thursday – offering a representation of this year’s current domestic literature, always with free admission.

 Sarah Anna Fernbach
Vienna Poetry Slam
This has never been there before: a battle at the Vienna Rathaus. Luckily only a verbal one because what is possibly the most magnificent Poetry Slam that Vienna has ever seen takes place at the Festival Hall in the evening. Austria’s best poetry slammers compete under pompous chandeliers and engage in a poetry contest on the highest level. An audience jury decides who has brought the best texts to the stage and may be crowned in victory pose at the end. Joining in: heavyweights like Sarah Anna Fernbach and Anna Hader, moderated by Austrian Poetry Slam champions Henrik Szanto and Jonas Scheiner.

Travel-Diary
There is little that can’t be transformed into a writing-book: records, children’s books, cinema booklets, music books, postcards – it all can be converted and utilized. At least that’s what book fairy Anita Dollmanits says and she will demonstrate how today. The workshop starts at the Naschmarkt where you will stroll through the flea market together and without hurry choose an old book that catches your eye and heart. Then it’s on to the co-working space Cocoquadrat where the find will be transformed into a very personal notebook, travel book, sketch book or diary with the help of saddle stitching.

 Spanische Hofreitschule
Piber meets Vienna
The jumping Spanish Riding School horses are currently on holiday in the countryside. In return, the offspring from the stud farm Piber have gone on summer camp in Vienna. The summer programme from 13 euros will show young stallions that have only been romping around alpine pastures so far, mares with their little foals, and historical harnesses with original carriages. The highlight is the outdoor-foal enclosure in the evenings (if the manager gives the green light and the weather’s fine) in Burggarten! There you can admire the lively babies with their elegant mamas in their green nursery for free – cute!

In Vienna, that dream could now become a reality because in the very first TrickArt Museum courageous folks can not only get up close with the aforementioned unicorns, but also ride Hawaiian monster waves and grow angel wings. How exactly it works? Visitors have 90 minutes to pose in front of the 40 exhibits at the museum and be photographed or filmed with their own smartphones. Thanks to the 3D technology you get the illusion of being right in the middle of the action. Perfect food for your Instagram account ;-)

Pretty surprising how many beautiful rooftops appear out of thin air in Vienna these days. Like this rooftop gem, unknown until now, in the middle of the first district that resides on top of a bank and offers a wonderful 360-degree view of Vienna. (You can check out the romantic view of Stephansdom on CitySpotterGirl’s Instagram account.) You can chill here on the surprisingly spacey roof until the end of August, enjoy drinks, drool over the sunset and devour a burger (beef or veggie) when you acutely get the munchies. Very New York, very cool! You can find more beautiful rooftops at the portal!
