"Heya Girls!"
Is there anyone among you who has been out and about in the inner city in the last few days? If you have not yet strolled through the pedestrian zone: do it! We will never see it so beautiful – because so empty – again. And yes, I know, the shops there would need the masses of tourists damned badly, but such a new, undisguised view of the city still feels good! New views are also offered by the Viennese tourist guides at the moment. They are allowed to work again since May 1st, but as we will surely not see any guest from abroad for some time, they have created a special program for us locals. In addition to the usual 400 (!) different themed tours, it is important for the guides to show how many sights Vienna has to offer outside the city centre – and so there are plenty of neighbourhood walks on offer, such as in Simmering, Rodaun, Ottakring, Döbling, Hadersdorf or Kaisermühlen. And especially funny: there are guided tours in 12 foreign languages loosely based on the motto "My Italian Vienna" or "My Japanese Vienna". Perfect for practising a language!

Experiencing art up close and personal: from today, this is true for the Bank Austria Kunstforum again, where ticket prices have been greatly reduced for the opening week. Not cheap, however, are the works of Cindy Sherman, currently on view in the exhibition "The Cindy Sherman Effect", being among the most expensive photographs in the world. Since there is a maximum of only 10 people allowed per room, there’s no crowd in front of the cool pictures at least. The exhibition "Now. collected #9/#10" at tresor, too, has been prolonged specifically for all who have not yet seen it.

Beeswax cloth instead of plastic
Away with the plastic cling film and the aluminium rolls – beeswax cloths are great for storing food! They keep food fresh for longer, are antiseptic and – since they can be used again and again – they are particularly sustainable. Susanne Kindler will explain how these things are made at a workshop in the middle of Essling today. The work is done outdoors in the garden – with a lot of distance. The cloths are then baked in the oven (yes, indeed) and taken straight home with you. And tomorrow you can already put your snack in your bag nicely wrapped up.

Some Salome Pop-Up
Yep, the first post-quarantine pop-up stores are opening. At present, Viennese lady Salome Stein is showing selected favourite pieces from Berlin, where she studied design and has built up a network of designers and artists at "Some Salome". Malaika Raiss has some very special jewellery, such as the necklace with pizza and chips pendants, and the spider brooches from Akkesoir are real rocks. Then you can deck yourself with an eye-catcher bag by Lala Berlin in red snake leather look, unusual drawings are exhibited by the Viennese Rade Petrasevic. Surely you will find something there ;-)

The fashion school Herbststraße does not only create fashion, it also has its own branch of art. And the students of this art school will now publish their annual works only online as a virtual exhibition for the first time. The works depict different social realities: Highly political, for instance, is the wearing of headscarves and their bans, the video "#like" is very close to everyday life and shows the quick categorisation of people in social networks, "Der faule Apfel" seems rather depressive. A small place with so much to offer: The Werkbuchcafé is a bookstore, café and workroom for Do-It-Yourself enthusiasts and – unfortunately – closes now for the time being. But fortunately not quite. The shop will be moved to the internet for now, until owner Sabine Mund has found a new space for her concept of a co-creative space. Due to the move out of Haidgasse, there will be a big sale every Saturday, with a discount of up to 50 percent on books, material and accessories. The METAStadt, which is located far off the city centre, has become one of the coolest event locations in the city – the old brick factory buildings are really cool, after all. And now Austria's biggest flea market can take place here every (!) Sunday again. The hunting ground covers 42,000 sqm including courtyards, old and modern halls. The range extends from hip offers and bargains to real gusto pieces and antiques. And everything has been adapted so that the Corona specifications can be met, of course!

Crossing styles, bell-like singing by Julia Lacherstorfer is mixed with trumpet sounds by Simon Zöchbauer and zither and violin playing. Künstlerhaus open for good
They closed again after just one weekend, then the Künstlerhaus hoped for an opening in April, which became May. But today is really the day, finally (!) all new rooms in the completely renovated building will be opened to the public. For three long years they renovated everything at Karlsplatz, now the "Albertina modern" has moved in with works from the former Essl Collection. 2,000 sqm of modern and contemporary art are on display, currently on show in the exhibition "The Beginning" with Austrian art after 1945.

The furnishing seems like a funny mix of modern and vintage pieces from your rich aunt in the country, flower curtains in front of the huge windows and gorgeous prints on the walls really do give the rooms a kind of living room atmosphere. The new restaurant in the Palais Augarten (right next to the Porcelain Museum) with its 2 terraces looks really inviting. The menu offers a lot of small dishes that can be combined. Or eaten separately if you are not that hungry. And the view of the Augarten: wonderful!
