"Heya Girls!"
46 productions, 15 of which should have been world premieres. But the Festwochen had to give way to a little stupid virus too. What is normally one of the cultural highlights of the year in May and June has been moved to the web in a small, unusual form. Day after day, each piece from the programme was and is virtually hinted at according to the chronology in the festival. This resulted in a collection of small “gestures” that refer to every work that cannot be shown. Some were taken from existing material, others give an insight into the creation of a new piece that still has its premiere ahead of it. Moving images, musical fragments, short texts: a sci-fi comic by Susanne Kennedy and Markus Selg, a choreographic video work by William Forsythe, an earthquake text by Kate McIntosh (photo) or an enigmatically beautiful video by the company Cia REC, shot over the roofs of Rio de Janeiro. In sum, they form something like an archive of a festival that could not take place. Splinters of thoughts on a time period we will likely never forget.
Wishing you a good week,

Duo Sonoma at Frau Mayer
This is how harmonious and gentle it can sound when two sisters form a band. The duo Sonoma consists of the siblings Mira on violin and Sara Gregorič with guitar – the repertoire of the musicians ranges from tango to jazz improvisation to classical and new music. They also combine these different styles to a whole in their own compositions. Tonight you can hear this music that’s perfect for dreaming yourself away in the living room atmosphere of the venue "Frau Mayer". For a good seat you should make a reservation by SMS, check it out in advance here.

Support your local girlgang
Yes, we are happy to do that – supporting Viennese designers and other creative girls. This time at the temporary design shop, for which local "it"-labels like Ferrari Zöchling, amateur and Milk have come together to sell their latest creations of fashion, accessories and jewellery. Minimalist collections come from KLAR, at Valle ō Valle cardigan and kimono are combined to a flowing, airy kimonorah, and the Waldviertler manufacturer Kamptalerie brings fine soaps to Vienna. Everything is created by women – and all produce sustainably and locally.

Travel Apparatus
Do we really have to physically enter a place to experience it? No! Through art you can take a trip around the world without leaving the city. Possible from today every Thursday in the art studio "das weisse haus" with an exciting video program. It’s not the tourist experience that takes centre stage, but thinking about global warming and social inequality at 34 destinations. You will travel to a private pool in Spain, to the annual drought in Tuvalu or to the ice landscapes of the North Pole. A look at distant places in a time when travelling seems almost impossible.

Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky
Austria's first female architect, the wonderful housing revolutionary Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky is known above all for her "Frankfurt Kitchen". Today, however, a guided tour is dedicated to her work in Vienna. The excursion leads to the (lesser known) buildings of Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky in the 20th district. The meeting point is in front of the former GLOBUS building, which the architect planned in 1956 and which is now a listed building. From there the walk continues to the Otto-Haas-Hof and the kindergarten Kapaunplatz.
Meeting point: former GLOBUS building, Höchstädtplatz 3, 1200 Vienna. 19 June 16:30. Please sign up! Web

For two days you can buy various sizes and species in the store, the personal cactus favourite can also be reserved online in advance and then picked up. Besides the cacti, you can also use this opportunity to inspect the brand-new collection of swimsuits and bikinis.

Volkstheater: song night
Final performance for the Volkstheater – before it is closed until January 2021 because of the general renovation. To bring the “Alles geht!” song recital to the stage despite the ban on events, the whole team got into the car and headed for Lower Austria. Shot in the workshops and depots of the Volkstheater, the cancelled performance resulted in a music film, a best-of songs from productions of the last five years. Tonight the production will be released for the first time in the online stream and will be available for 24 hours. A musical chronicle of the theatre.

Presentation Tuareg Jewellery
In the last city before the Sahara, in Agadez, the Tuareg people make their artistic jewellery. Beautiful, handmade pieces are now presented by the gallery Melete: necklaces, rings, pendants and earrings are made according to traditional patterns, the patterns and ornaments are inspired by the natural environment – like for instance by the dunes in the Sahara and the tracks of jackals and camels in the sand. Special guest is Tuareg Alhousseini Ibra, who will tell stories about the various pieces of jewellery and who will also perform a traditional tea ceremony.

Buschenschank in Residence
You’d gladly follow the wonderful Viennese winemaker Jutta Ambrositsch-Kalchbrenner everywhere. Quasi in the heart of the wine tavern area Grinzing, she has played in an abandoned traditional tavern for the last years. Now it’s time for a new location: the Buschenschank (wine tavern) of the Rauscher family, which has been in existence since 1954 and has been closed since 2014, also in Grinzing. They’re open this weekend with all the trimmings like cosy seats, wonderful delicacies and of course some very fine wines. Do make reservations due to Corona.

Sissi’s Sundowner
The Drag Queens take over Schönbrunn! And as it befits queens, Tamara Mascara and her five colleagues have chosen a worthy setting with the castle for their new show “Sissi’s Sundowner”. From now on, every Saturday and Sunday, the six ladies will embark on the strangest journey through time that ever took place there in the middle of the palace gardens: In the middle of the 1950s, Romy Schneider finally starts shooting the Sissi trilogy in the imperial building complex, but soon some extremely unusual incidents occur. The cult classic as a drag show? Dragtastic!

Cinema on the Roof
With the summer weather come the summer cinemas! In the chill open-air cinema on the roof of the Central Library, cinematic highlights and international novelties flicker across the screen again – under new Corona rules: A seat must be left empty between you and strangers, and tickets can only be purchased online this year. Today's programme is also cutting edge with " Queen & Slim". On the way home a black couple is stopped by a white policeman because of a trifle, the encounter gets out of hand. Highly topical thriller!

Hiroshima Appeals
The posters are touring the world, now they can also be seen in Vienna: Every year, the Hiroshima Appeals campaign commemorates the day the bombs fell on Hiroshima. Only one Japanese artist may add one work to the collection each year. The designforum shows the whole poster series titled “Stimmen für den Frieden” (Voices for Peace), the show is a warning cry against violence, war, hatred and contempt for humanity. The latest subject of the 22 posters shows mother and child with a swallow as a symbol of hope: unable to fly after the bombing, the birds can now take to the skies again.

Give-Away Garden Party
Who's got something to give away? Into the backpack with it and off to the Cobenzl! There, club SOL hosts a garden party today with a sustainable add-on: everybody can bring items that they would like to pass on to others. The only requirement is that they are usable, clean and functional. If you want to get rid of more than will fit in one bag, you should reserve a table. All that is left over is donated to a Kost Nix shop. Everyone should bring their own grillables and drinks, rubber boots are available for a game of farmer's golf on the nearby meadow ;-) Wonderful idea, easily executed!

Quipster
The black marble outside makes the tiny shop appear all the brighter on the inside. And everywhere the Quipsterlings are curiously peeking from the walls, that's the name of the funny comic animals of the Salzburg label Quipster. The charming stick figures remind us of little beans and each character has its own story, is a bit weird or has a questionable talent. One of the most popular figures is Fluffy, very hairy and grown up in an ostrich herd. The T-shirts, hoodies and tank tops are available in unisex sizes and in the colours white, black and grey.

VeVi
One of the first new openings after Corona combines two food trends that are currently in vogue in Vienna: vegan food and Vietnamese cuisine. In Vietnam, veganism has played an important role for centuries, considering the fact that the monks of the Vietnamese temples exclusively stick to a meatless diet. So the idea to offer this in Vienna, too, suggested itself. The small, nicely furnished restaurant has all the classics on the menu, from Summer Rolls to Pho, but also unusual things like Banh Mi baguette or macrobiotic dishes, such as red rice with sesame salt. Nice!
