"Heya Girls!"
Who knows what Luneville embroidery is? You can learn this haute couture embroidery technique in Vienna this summer and also get an insight into the sewing art of the great fashion houses of Paris. Or how about drawing in the evening Schanigarten? Or would a low-budget styling workshop be more appropriate? With more than 100 courses, the Summer Academy of Art VHS now offers a varied programme and provides creative entertainment from June to August. The range of artistic activities is really broad: from classic acrylic and watercolour painting to photography, web programming and creative writing. By the way, the Kunst VHS is the only adult education centre in Europe that specialises in art. Hmm, do I sign up for the wild plant diary or the lost places photo-walk in the ruins of the royal and imperial powder factory near Bad Vöslau?

Wishing you a creative week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Nelavie
Last year she won second place at the Protest Song Contest with “Teilzeit Feminist” and now she is also on the road internationally. Today, however, Lena Fibich, aka Nelavie, is on stage in Vienna. Through her songs, the young singer/songwriter draws attention to patriarchal, capitalist and outdated structures, encourages reflection and shows that we are often not as alone with our “own problems” as we think. Because often a political or social system is hidden behind them. This will be an evening with an expressive voice and good lyrics!

Michael Niavarani: Reset
Everything is gone. Childhood, first love, marriage, best friend and a suitcase full of money. In his comedy “Reset”, Michael Niavarani plays the businessman Herbert, from whom everyone wants something: his wife more romance, his half-brother an inheritance, his secretary a child from him and his best friend even wants him to hide a suitcase full of money. When Herbert is trying to run away with the suitcase he has an accident – and loses his memory. Niavarani plus a good cast plus a location in the park means: might be damn funny!

Buschenschank in Residence
You’d gladly follow the wonderful Viennese winemaker Jutta Ambrositsch-Kalchbrenner everywhere. Quasi in the heart of the Heurigen area Grinzing, she has stayed in an abandoned traditional tavern for the last years. Now it’s time for a new location: the Buschenschank (wine tavern) of the Rauscher family, which has been in existence since 1954 and has been closed since 2014, also in Grinzing. They’re open this weekend, with all the trimmings like cosy seats, wonderful delicacies (like Thum black pudding and Paget cheese) and of course some very fine wines. Definitely make a reservation.

Astronaut Wittgenstein
The Festwochen are also happening outdoors! Natasa Rajkovic's astronaut Wittgenstein lands in Kaisermühlen today, well-travelled and disoriented, looking for contact and answers. The Croatian theatre-maker draws on the given and built nature of Vienna's largest amusement park and charges it with big questions: What is natural? What is artificial? How can strangers communicate with one another? The story of Astronaut Wittgenstein subtly blends with the cyclists and roller skaters, the swimmers and sunbathers all around.

 Wien Museum
Street art on the fence
The construction site at Karlsplatz is visibly progressing and the Wien Museum has already grown with the “cube”. You can't go in yet, but the construction fence around the Wien Museum will once again become a canvas for street art over the summer period. This time, the invited artists will deal with aspects of urban cultures, focusing on public space and its users. Who actually owns public space? Who is present and welcome in public space? Who gets a say in shaping it? It will start with David Leitner and Perk_up. Cool!

 Friday Nightskating
Friday Night Skating
One of the best ways to stay fit in Vienna: From now on, every Friday after sunset you will be rolling again, right through the city, right through the night. The routes are determined in advance, rolling guards and police take care of traffic safety. The meeting point is always at Heldenplatz at 21:00. This week it's off to Seestadt Aspern. At just over 31 kilometres, this is the longest ride of the year and is flat except for the ascents and descents of the bridges. There are stops along the way, so you can join in at any point. Tip: Be sure to take water with you!

Löven
There hasn't been a concert by these gentlemen for a long time, the reason is known and starts with C. But now the catch-up concert from the catch-up date takes place today and it will be “The great Löven Show”. Actually, the 3 urban millennials Sami Fischer, Gregor and Paul Sailer have been playing together as the alternative rock band “My Glorious” for over 10 years. But then they wanted to go for it once more, make more wild music – and so they simply founded their second band Löven. Is that pop? Is it rap? No idea, but the album released this year is called Löven Hunger.

 Vollpension
Re-Opening Vollpension 1010
Finally: After a two-year pandemic break, the Vollpension at the Music and Arts University in the first district is open again. Currently only on weekends, but still ;-) What’s special about it: At the moment, the well-known “generations-café” is all about refugee seniors from Ukraine. Six Ukrainian grandmas and grandpas are already baking sweets and savouries from their homeland according to their family recipes, though they are still looking for more seniors. A special tip fund has been set up so that the refugees do not lose their primary care income as a result of the additional income.

 Café Kosmos
Flea market at Cafe Kosmos
Well, that was some smart thinking. Because the weather is supposed to be hot this weekend, the flea market at Café Kosmos doesn't start until 17:00. So that all visitors have time to go swimming beforehand ;-) The Kosmos in Meidling is actually known for its cakes, homemade sodas and the Süßmund coffee. But today they also sell clothes and shoes, small items, electrical appliances, crockery and odds and ends. And to make browsing even more fun, there will be a cocktail happy hour from 20:00 to 21:00. Cocktails will be only 5.50 € then.

Barefoot Hike on Bisamberg
Many life reformers such as the popular Sebastian Kneipp or also Florian Berndl, the “inventor” of the Gänsehäufel, have recommended barefoot walking as an important element of preventive health care. After Berndl was evicted from the Gänsehäufel, he wanted to make the Bisamberg a health resort for the poor – and that's exactly where we will walk barefoot today. This decelerates, grounds and is also the best muscle training. With herbalist Renate Semper, we explore the winding paths of the Bisamberg without shoes. Just feel what grows and thrives under your feet.

Festival of Nations
The more diverse the better: today – after a 2-year Corona break – the Hirschstetten Gardens are transformed into a wildly mixed universe when cultural associations, musicians and folklore groups from a wide variety of nations from Nepal to Paraguay perform, dance, sing, play theatre and make music. And they all live in Vienna! There will also be beautiful handicrafts to buy and – of course! – culinary specialities from all over the world. You can eat momos, eat Egyptian cake or watch an Eritrean coffee ceremony. The festival will take place in all weathers, by the way.

 Sophie Hunger
Sophie Hunger
Her melancholic space-pop songs somehow fit quite well into these strange times: at the Konzerthaus today, you can indulge in the spherical sound of Sophie Hunger from Switzerland. The great singer-songwriter creates romance without pathos and gets by with her charismatic voice without any gimmickry. In Vienna today, she will be playing her latest album “Hallucinations”, which was produced in London. The special feature of this album is that the songs were all recorded in one piece as a live session. You can listen in here.

Queer Tango
Queer tango is a form of tango in which gender attributions and fixed role models are broken down. Everyone dances with anyone else – no matter what gender, no matter what role – as long as both are having fun. And it is exactly this Queer Tango that is on the programme in Lilli's Ballroom in June. In several open classes for all levels (solo and couples), the aim is to get to know Queer Tango, to dance the first steps and to refine what has already been learned in the subsequent practice class. Dance partners will be changed during the classes. And on 26 June, there will be a big Milonga dance evening!

Satuo
Finnish jazz singer Laura Maria Korhonen and guitarist Aron Saringer started out as a duo about ten years ago, but in the meantime “Satuo” has grown into quite a colourful troupe. With pretty different backgrounds from trained musicians to self-taught punk rockers. Musically, the band moves somewhere between Nordic folk, reggae and rock, with chansons, Finnish tango and swing thrown into the mix. They hum, strum and fingerpick with virtuosity on banjo, mandolin or singing saw, and there is also a glockenspiel. Really imaginative and versatile! You can listen in here!

Vertebra Weeks at Prater
Walking through life with your head held high: The spine makes it possible. In order to keep it that way and to compensate for all the sitting that we do every day, it’s necessary to mobilise, strengthen and stretch. And this is exactly what is trained during the Vertebra Weeks, which start today. In the weekly course you strengthen (with your own weight and small equipment) the torso and shoulders, balance exercises are aimed at the deep muscles. Through the holistic body training, vertebrae and intervertebral discs are sustainably relieved. And everything outdoors in the open air at Prater!

Bag & Borrow bag sale
Carola Phillips lived in the USA for long and brought the idea for Bag & Borrow with her upon return. She wanted to offer what has long been common practice in America, France and Germany: renting luxury bags. Instead of buying expensive bags, you can borrow clutches etc. for a few weeks. But right after the start there was the first lockdown and nobody needed bags! So Phillips dissolved the service and now sells the pieces from Gucci, Louis Vuitton or Dior for up to 30% cheaper! The bags are in perfect condition and come with box and dust bag.

Frenzi Rigling: In Blue
Now this is quite an unusual place for art! Above the imposingly curved double staircase of the Hämmerle flagship store, which would fit well into any glamourous Hollywood film, artist Frenzi Rigling presents her new work. The 6 by 6 metre installation consists of blue-coloured canvases that have been delicately embroidered. White threads show the outlines of objects hidden behind the fabric – creating a fine white drawing. At today's vernissage, you can ask the artist what is hidden behind the fabric in ultramarine and cyan.

Paula
Paula Bader likes unusual things. That's why she has set up a small shop in her office studio without further ado and sells things there that no one really needs but everyone likes – from beautiful, flower-adorned writing sets (finally writing letters again!) to bamboo tableware and chopping boards with a statement to princess candles. The main thing is that the items are colourful, funny and well-designed. All these nice things are hand-picked, often inexpensive, sourced abroad and at special fairs – and at some point everyone in here will start to grin. Also a great tip for gifts!

 Café Zeit
Café Zeit
A prominent temporary spot: the spacious steps of the town hall have been transformed (until September) into a snazzy outdoor café. Colourful deckchairs, beanbags and floral decorations tempt you to laze around ins style, and at lunchtime and in the evening you can also eat at tables sheltered from the wind under the arcades – Viennese classics from the Rathauskeller kitchen, plus vegan and vegetarian dishes such as vegan feta with melon and tomato salad. And you got a view of the Rathauspark, the Burgtheater and, in high summer, the film festival. A visit at the mayor’s, so to speak ;-)
