"Heya Girls!"
Much has been brewing over the last few years in Vienna’s coffee scene. The times where no one gave a bean about where the beans come from or how they are roasted and ground are long gone. A coffee with “latte” without foam art is barely valid, everyone knows what a barista is, and the snazzy espresso machine in your kitchen is a status symbol. It follows that the Vienna Coffee Festival doesn’t lack in trends then. This week at Ottakringer Brewery, they serve toot-sweet all that makes coffeistas and caffeine junkies happy for three days. The domestic roastery J. Hornig, for instance, offers evidence that coffee can also be savoured cold and is suitable for the evening: with the newest coffee drinks like the Nitro Cold Brew or the hip Cold Brew cocktails fresh from New York. Plus, world-class baristas show their skills, you can slurp your way through special roasts, participate in workshops, get informed on the newest coffee high-tech, or get inspired by “Latte Art”, foam-wise. Whoa, high pulse guaranteed!
Wishing you a wakened week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Großmütterchen Hatz
Listening to singer Franziska Hatz and her whirlwind-orchestra, you feel catapulted into the fast-paced Balkan comedy “Black Cat, White Cat”. Because there, too, you travel the Danube up into the direction of the Black Sea, sound-wise – fiery, powerful-voiced, jazzy, and Klezmer-rhythmical. Tonight, the band is a guest at Sargfabrik to give their already obligatory New Year’s concert. So please fasten your seatbelts (or dance madly!). Together with guests (singing nieces, nephews, and brothers), they will light a musical firework! Listen in here.

 Derya Schubert-Gülcehre
A brave woman: Sakina Teyna was the first Kurdish singer who publicly performed traditional Kurdish folk songs. For centuries, only men were allowed to do that. With her timeless chansons and traditional songs, she incorporates a modern-world Kurdish identity, full of tenderness and eruptive power, she sings Turkish, Armenian, Persian, and her own songs, with Western harmonies, jazz, and Latin subtly mixed in. She has gathered an exquisite band around herself in her home of choice, Vienna; today she plays at Sargfabrik with her musically virtuosic “Friends”. Listen in here.

De-Felting Party at FilzOase
For five years, there was felting, spinning, knitting, buttoning, and spooling at Anastasius-Grün-Gasse in the 18th district. In addition to that, you also heard knitting needles clink regularly and old bedlinen buttons experienced an unexpected revival. This is all over now: in the future Madame FilzOase Monika Tatrai and Madame “Feiner Faden” Petra Mühlberger will spin their threads elsewhere. Today they celebrate a farewell party with a super sale: pretty handmade products and materials are being sold off at particularly low prices. Plus, they serve pie and spin yards. Adieu!

Sisis Geheimnis
The preparation time was two years, 30 puppets in historical costumes were hand-crafted, wonderful stage settings were designed – now the first musical with marionettes at Schloss Schönbrunn comes to the stage. In the play created by director Werner Hierzer and his team, the focus of the artful puppet show is on Sisi’s relationship to Franz Joseph. A play about love that is put to the test. And the location is really beautiful, too: the tradition of marionette theatre at Schloss Schönbrunn dates back 250 years, after all.

All Together
What do you think of when hearing this name? This question is what Michikazu Matsune’s performance “All Together” is all about. The three performers remember together, trace connecting lines among themselves and work their way through different people. People they have met in their lives, people they have lost contact with and people who can’t be there right now. Poetical and with fine humour, the trio epitomise what they associate with the people behind their names. The audience of the last ImPulsTanz Festival loved it!

Die Überflüssigen
The protagonists of Alexander Kubelka’s opera caricature alone promise an entertaining evening: a spick and span ex-CEO of a multinational corporation, a society lady who’s botoxed beyond recognition, a rising pop starlet, plus an incorrigible idealist. Stuck somewhere between self-optimisation and burn-out, they land on a late capitalist rubbish dump in the middle of nowhere. And are pretty much screwed there without online shopping assistant, smart watch and charger. What happens then can be seen today (for the last time!) at Hamakom!

6 Frauen – 6 Männer
A journey to the shoals of the day-to-day, partly from a female and partly from a male perspective: at the Kosmostheater, you can see new versions of two “aktionstheater” plays in a double bill under the title “6 Frauen 6 Männer”. “Pension Europa” features six women searching for a vision – pure, naked and sometimes poetically, the day-to-day is analysed and discussed without restraint. And in “Die wunderbare Zerstörung des Mannes”, six men with stereotypical views fail in an oddly comical way amidst Trump-crudeness and #metoo-sensitisations.

Fancy natural materials are the passion of German designer Hannes Roether, who has now opened his first store here in Austria. You wouldn’t recognise the shop that has previously hosted “Anukoo” Fair Fashion. Much more spacious, brick walls, black flamed wood, an old, newly uncovered vaulted ceiling and, most importantly, really pretty avant-garde fashion. Amazing knit dresses, delicate jumpers made of “boiled wool”, and coats made of “Deutschleder” – a dense fabric that gets soft and shiny with time. The bargain hunt pays off right now: many items are over 50% off!

All I’m saying is: it’s a must-see! For the newest opening of an Aida branch definitely falls into the category “luxury”. You sit in the middle of a beautiful, dreamlike turn-of-the-century ambiance (the hat manufactory Habig used to reside there) with golden-ornamented stuck, marble, and massive supply cabinets of the royal warrants, and chomp down punch cake. Or a nice breakfast which is served on an étagère here, true to proper style. The culinary offer – coffee, cake and small snacks – corresponds with the one in the other Aidas, but the ambiance is simply stunning!
