"Heya Girls!"
In the mid-90s, she virtually reinvented the genre “romantic comedy made in Germany”. Her wonderfully funny film “Men” not only made Heiner Lauterbach and Uwe Ochsenknecht stars overnight, director Doris Dörrie has also been one of the industry's greats ever since. Dörrie, who lives in Munich, keeps reinventing herself and has since created an impressive series of films that always have their finger on the pulse of the time. In her modern heroine's journeys, she celebrates – to use the title of one of her films – “Dieses schöne Scheißleben” (this beautiful fucking life). This week, the Filmarchiv launches a retrospective on Germany's best-known director and will be showing 12 films – in addition to “Men”, of course. It starts on Friday with “Cherry Blossoms” in the presence of Doris Dörrie, and on Saturday she is invited to a stage talk. And her latest film comedy “Freibad”, which premiered in 2022, will also be shown – Maria Happel plays one of the protagonists who has to struggle with burkinis in the women's pool.

In his piece, the Upper Austrian “country lad” Simon Mayer artistically takes the traditions, folk dances and sounds from his home for a ride. And so four men play violin, accordion and double bass. They will not only amaze you with a four-part yodel, but also with Schuhplattln au naturel – including wildly up and down swinging genitals. There is hardly a wittier and more contemporary way to kick customs and the rigid male role model in the backside!
