"Heya Girls!"
Well, May has finally arrived, colouring the trees multi-green, brightening my mood to sun-yellow, and increasing my desire to go galivanting through the city. A good opportunity might be this Friday which is Karlstag – for the tenth time already, Kunstplatz Karlsplatz celebrates itself and its cultural institutions with a great program. So, you can go see all cultural hot spots from Karlskirche to Secession during a seven-hour mega-Karlsplatz tour (joining in anytime is no problem!), partake in many special guided tours for free or marvel at street artists. The iconic 25-hour city adventure “Struwwelpeter” that has been produced by the theatre group Nesterval specifically for Kunstplatz Karlsplatz invites you to participate, and in the evening, you may enjoy chilling at the pond while listening to concerts, like the fine grooves of young soul lady Soia (photo), for example. Nice!

Wishing you a happy spring week,

Your CitySpotterGirl

Zweisterne
Who still remembers the self-made childhood daisy-necklaces? Unfortunately, those frail works had a very limited lifespan ;-) The mother-daughter-duo Daniela and Esther Stern has found a way of preserving spring for longer: they dry flowers and herbs, seal them in mini-glass phials and make them into silver pendants for their label “Zweisterne”. Now they’re coming to Galerie Artup as guests with their spring-inspired plant-jewellery pieces, there you can buy these flowery miracles during Prosecco, tea, and pie until tomorrow.

This sure is gonna be wonderful again! It all started with a facebook group called “Wiener Wunderweiber”. By now, more than 8,000 women, who are all wonder women in their own way, are bustling around there – and offer many interesting things. Today, the busy online exchange and market place moves from the virtual to the real world: at a top location (with garden!), “Wunderweiber” offer their goods from fashion to sweet treats and jewellery, plus there’s also a photo studio, readings at a special literary saloon, and try-out sessions from work-out and music.

Gesangskapelle Hermann
Poems a capella and in dialect? Gesangskapelle Hermann makes it possible! The six young “Hermanns” warble away wittily and cynically about essentially Austrian and other happenings. Eloquently and very charmingly, garnished with the necessary dash of wickedness. In their new program, they sing to their relatives and family members, but also about the “electric bike” or the “Beisl round the corner”, among other things, all in Austrian dialect. And the cool Volksmusik boygroup manages to get by without any instruments whatsoever. Listen in here.

Adventure Basement Storage
A bit spooky but a true insider tip for explorers! The “underworld” of the Museum of Natural History is usually not open to the public although it can be explored occasionally during exclusive guided tours. Down there, four (!) stories below the earth, you’ll find the herpetological collection, which consists of thousands of skeletons and more than 200,000 amphibians and reptiles conserved in alcohol, some of them artfully prepared. But don’t worry, there are also non-alcoholic things to admire: travel souvenirs confiscated by customs from all around the globe.

Bowie Musical “Lazarus“
Together with the album “Blackstar”, it was David Bowie’s last work before his death 2016: the musical “Lazarus”. In the 1976 film adaption of the science-fiction classic “The Man Who Fell to Earth”, Bowie himself had played the alien Thomas Jerome Newton. In the musical, he finishes telling the story of the fallen alien. Big Bowie songs, among them Beginners, Heroes and This Is Not America blend seamlessly into a magnificent story. The Volkstheater ensemble performs, accompanied by an eight-person band, 17 songs written by the music legend.
