"Heya Girls!"
Away with the angel’s wings, give me a feather boa! Aside from ingenious Christmas-miracle-madness, there’s a bit of a diva-program this week. A woman likes to be a bad girl every so often, after all. We’re talking about the burlesque-musical-show “Ich bin ein Vamp” (I am a vamp), in which Viennese chansonnière and burlesque artist Lou de Boudoir breathes some life into the glamourous world of the Old Style Cabaret. And this is gonna be hot, ladies! Because what started in the 17th century as crass-grotesque slapstick theatre, has long blossomed out to becoming a subtle, elegant erotic art. Today (and only today!) the Austrian version of Dita Van Teese will show how adaptable, sexy, and charming a woman can be. Glamourous evening with chansons, amour-anecdotes, and opulent costumes! If you’re in the mood for a wilder burlesque version, scroll down to Wednesday. Dita, here we come!

Wishing you a diva-like week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Fette Nelke
Now this is probably the smallest Christmas market in town – and it’s not very Christmassy, either. But pretty! A few dynamic labels, design nomads and delicacy-producers gather at the former “chiquen imbiss” called chimbiss, and offer their products for sale. Elisabeth Eigenthaler brings her unusual rings, the honey wine comes from the honey farm Zauberwabe, and the script art from Patrick Timm. Kaffemiks will serve their well-known hot drinks and finally some good punch! Kitsch-free, for sure. Until 23 December, always Thursday to Saturday!

A&C Christmas Archive Sale
In terms of buying presents, for CitySpotterGirl, this fashion sale will be more along the lines of gifting herself ;-) Austro-designer Christiane Gruber is clearing out her Awareness & Consciousness archive. Beautiful (individual) pieces from the last “Lightness” summer collection are to be found, like fine silk dresses and -blouses, but also stuff you could wear now, like clever jersey-batik-wrap dresses in warm winter colours. All from previous seasons and – hooray – at real bargain prices from -50 to -70%! Relaxed shopping with hot mulled wine and music.

Love letters of a corpulent cat
Admittedly, its title alone would have secured this event a spot in this newsletter. Even though it’s actually not about fat house cats at all, but about the joy of linocuts and wordplays. For many people, the carving of models brings back memories from primary school; T.R.U.D.L systems creatives Bernd Grubmann and Michael Adensamer used the technique for 40 funny prints, which they present today at the Dock7. Every visitor gets a humorous love letter (and can print it themselves, if desired!). Little preview here!

Punch & Shopping at N°17
Can a woman ever have too many caps and bags? No! So today’s motto: to the Concept Store N°17 of the two designers Dörte Kaufmann and Ursula Lidy, chop-chop! The former presents her newest loop art- and cuddly knitwear creations for your head (many colours and models!), the latter is represented with her cool Lu-design-backpacks and bags made from waxed cotton. And obviously, a few specials absolutely have to be included at a pre-Christmas shopping-get-together: like great sale individual pieces and “guest performances” by O’Terra and Alles Apfel.

China Moses “Nighingales Tour”
Two years ago, charismatic R&B and jazz singer China Moses rocked Konzerthaus together with her musical mum Dee Dee Bridgewater. Now she’s travelling solo! With some really powerful, goosebump-y, exclusively self-written songs from her new album Nightingales. Yes, you read right, obviously, the Parisian by choice with the amazing voice will grace her fans with some sort of fairy-tale night tonight – which goes to show that the nightingale reference absolutely makes sense, singing talent-wise. Listening sample here. Go get dolled up!

Farmer’s market delicacies
As you know, there’s no accounting for taste. But that definitely doesn’t apply to the gourmet-Christmas market at the Theatermuseum which is simply tasty ;-) They exclusively serve self-made specialities from domestic farms, like delicious pumpkin seed liqueur-bonbons, apricot chutney, edible flowers, and aroma-herbal teas. But between a little treat here and a little bit of mulled spiced cider there, you can also enjoy the fantastic baroque flair of Palace Lobkowitz or cast a glance at the Boschs, Rubens or Tizians in the museum, for free.

A little group of contemporary jewellery artists is playing in and shining on Nordbahn-Halle for two days. And indeed, the stuff blinking from ears, fingers, and wrists in the course of the selling exhibition is absolutely enchanting: like nice purist, gilded brass-jewellery by Nadine Now, chic finger sculptures by Francesca Urciuoli (came here specifically from the UK for this event). Or – uber cool – the award-winning bosom brooch by college Herbstraße graduate Anna Ries made from real silicone implant, silver, rose quartz, and coral bead. Gimme one!

Sparkler shooting
These days, sparkling advent-miracles are flashing through photographer Martina Siebenhandl’s professional studio again. Like every year, she invites to her “sparkler-shooting” where every to-be-photographed person gets one of those sparkling wands to hold and, for 90 seconds, is able to paint glittery hearts, short texts and light signals onto the picture – using a special kind of lighting technique. It’s kitschy, beautiful and on top of everything, a really nice Xmas-gift! For three days, the picture-taking is free of charge. Sparkle, sparkle, light into the darkness.

Another first-class address to work off the Xmas-shopping list: Aux Gazelles at the Rahlgasse. Angel’s Advent
Yeah okay, there’s one design advent-market after another right now but still, there are a few must-sees that have special status in the midst of this cheerful-colourful tangle. And such is the yearly Angel-Advent initiated by Ruth Wegerer. Out of fabrics, chandelier crystals, silk-flowers, antique laces and steel wire, she creates such celestial creatures that even deco-sceptics and people immune to kitsch usually find themselves floating home with something. Plus: there’s a free buffet and beautiful things by ten design-colleagues, for example fine scarves, blossom confectionary and motif soaps. Musicalstars at Stephansdom
Even if you’re not a regular churchgoer, you should risk a trip to St. Stephen’s Cathedral tonight. Because there won’t be a mass but a pre-Christmas musical show. No less than five famous TV-and theatre figures belt out their powerful-voiced Advent-song versions through the sacred architectural jewel. Including: Tini Kainrath, Marjan Shaki and Ramesh Nair. Their song repertoire ranges from classical to modern and from contemplative to cheery. When the Stevie Wonder-hit “Love’s in Need” echoes through the hall, the church bench sitting might be fun after all ;-) With live orchestra.

Wir Staatskünstler 2017 review
Today at Rabenhof, it’s the day of reckoning for the craziest political and societal gaffes of the Alpine Republic. The year’s almost over, after all. And who could accomplish such a humorous review more deviously, entertainingly, and pointedly than the Staatskünstler-trio (state artists) Thomas Maurer, Robert Palfrader and Florian Scheuba? The key topic: the green-blue-black-red dirty campaigning surrounding the heated national election, of course. And other topics are being covered with lots of wit and irony too – since it’s the successful show’s very last edition. A real pity!

Christmas in Vienna
Christmas is a festival full of traditions, memories and customs – and Vienna has its own special customs. Since the Biedermeier period, holidays, recipes, toys, legends and stories about saints have shaped the Christmas celebration in our city. 200 years ago, customs and traditions were born that have a continuing influence to this day. The Royal dynasty, a few aristocratic families and the rising bourgeoisie of the 19th century have played a significant role in it. Today, a guided tour follows their traces through their palaces and apartments to Christkind.

Cecilia Bartoli and Rolando Villazon
What a “dolce duello musicale”! Not every duet in music is characterised by harmony, sunshine and rainbows – and that’s a good thing. How good will be proven today at the Musikverein by mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli and cello star Sol Gabetta, who will make sure that feathers fly music-wise, in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. Charismatic star tenor Rolando Villazon will go at it in no way less spirited than the two ladies and belt out arias from Boito to Verdi with his Russian bass colleague Ildar Abdrazakov into the audience at Konzerthaus. Melts!

Vienna’s highest Christmas market at Ritz
So close to heaven: Vienna’s highest Christmas market is once again sparkling from Ritz Carlton’s roof garden. In accordance with the sophisticated ambiance of the luxury hotel at Ringstrasse, the wooden stalls at the Rooftop Bar high above the city not only offer fine treats, warming punch and scenting mulled wine but also fine champagne. Miss Evi & das Tier
From 8 to 23 December, Theater am Spittelberg has pulled together a really special wintertainment programme. Sometimes festive-contemplative for example at the Papermoon and Birgit Denk concerts. The Cake Tree
Well, no cake is no solution either ;-) Anne Murray seems to think so too, her café nestled in Stuwer-quarter is always enveloped in a wonderful pastry-scent. Originally, the young Irish woman came to Vienna to study music but then she decided to rather make traditional Viennese dishes – for the Viennese. For example, the moist Guinness Chocolate Cake (yes, it contains beer!), mince-pies with dried fruit and really great crumbly scones. Just for the sake of completeness: for lunch they also serve salty things like baked potatoes or quiche. But you should really come for the cake feast!
