"Heya Girls!"
During the coming week, every woman simply must do without her sleep, any private appointments and high heels! Because the Vienna Design Week is in town and makes quite a splash all over the place with exciting exhibitions, workshops and side-events! Particularly in this year’s focus-district Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, where you can dash back and forth between the two festival centres, the Blaues Haus at Westbahnhof (accommodation for refugees until recently and soon to be IKEA-store) and the former Zentralsparkassen-branch at Sparkassaplatz (an absolute 70s-jewel by Johann Georg Gsteu!). But there’s also 190 special exhibitions, open studios, pop-ups and secret “Passion Ways” in the rest of the city that encourage aesthetical exploring. Wildwood presents wood-objects at the pop up store, at the Saint Charles pharmacy you can “inhale forest”, interior designers will give tips for your apartment at the speed dating event for interior rooms, the Guerilla Architects lead a guide tour through Vienna, and carpet manufacturer Tisca demonstrates how to do Ikat-dyeing with plant dye. I’d say: a packed schedule!

Wishing you a wild week

Modepalast Pop Up Store
No, it’s not yet time to think about Xmas-shopping, even though they’ve already started piling up the Lebkuchen everyplace. Shopping in general is a different matter, though! A new Pop-Up-Store has just opened in the 4th district, tempting lady hunters and gatherers with a cool mix of fashion, jewellery, and living-accessories. It was initiated by Modepalast – which explains the originality of the products, which are exclusively from independent designers and small manufacturers. There’s cuddly knitwear by Ilona von Preuschen, colourful living-design by Afro Chic, clutches by Impibag and much more!

Modepalast Pop Up Store, Schleifmühlgasse 15, 1040 Vienna. Until 25 November, Tue-Fri 10:00 to 19:00, Sat until 16:00. Web

World Premiere Electric Church
To be honest, there aren’t too many reasons for CitySpotterGirl to go to church ;-) But the Vienna-world premiere of the Electric Church series is one of them. Tonight mastermind Sergio Manoel Flores will transform the Kirche am Hof into a paradise venue for his unique electro-music-spectacle! The “Archangel Gabriel”-concert lasts about 90 minutes and will melt together synthesizer-and live orchestra sounds, singing and visual art in a divine way. With star-violinist Yury Revich and Austro-singer-songwriter Loretta Who! Don't miss this pretty cool journey through human history!

Kirche am Hof, Schulhof 1, 1010 Vienna. 28+29 September, 21:00 (admission from 20:30). 28-72 €. Web

Mushroom Days at the Botanical Gardens
More than once CitySpotterGirl has come across some nice smelling mushrooms during a stroll in the woods. But honestly, even with a fungi guide book you can you never be 100% sure if what you found should find its way into a tasty mushroom goulash (apart from chanterelle perhaps). Today, mycology experts from the University of Vienna will bring light into the dark forest. More than 200 native boletes, russulas & Co have been picked; some of them are fresh, some dried and they are ready for comparison. Just bring your own finds! And at 11 o’clock, you can participate at a truffle hunt with a Breton dog!

Willy Puchner: Fabelhaftes Meer
How charming! Author and illustrator Willy Puchner’s new picture book is a heartfelt declaration of love to the ocean and its inhabitants. In the book titled “Fabelhaftes Meer” (“fabulous sea”), there are tales of weird fish, dancing deep sea creatures and curious seagulls; the texts with their subtle sense of humour paint a smile on the reader’s face. With the author present, the book will be presented today at Hauptbücherei, where you can also enjoy an exhibition of fantastic ocean pictures until October 7. You can also win a copy of the book and a personal letter by Willy Puchner right here!

Yoga-Shirts by Barbara Boll
Barbara Boll, who actually studied musicology, has changed tracks to textile arts several years ago and is now designing lingerie and custom-made bras that also perfectly fit women with a big décolleté. Currently, the body expert is working on a new sports line for curvy ladies. Her first trick: comfy yoga shirts in (EU) sizes 42-48. Now what’s special about these form fitting three-quarter sleeve shirts is the fact that they are also differentiated according to bra cup sizes. That way, every woman can show off what she has got, and covers what’s nobody’s business. Already excited for your next yoga workout?

Concert and Dance: History of Tango
When young Viennese dancer and choreograph Cornelia Voglmayr does a passionate bit of tango-dancing and swirls through the air, it feels a little bit like sex. Today the hot-blood will give shape to the music of legendary tango-nuevo-founder Astor Piazzolla. Together with pianist-duo Kutrowatz, she’ll create an evening full of suspense. You’ll hear – and see – Piazolla-highlights like Libertango, Adios Nonino, Michelangelo, Escualo, and of course the history of tango. A fine mix of classical music, modern dance and multimedia show!

Vienna FELT-Feast-Week
The recipe for felt is actually pretty simple: water + wool = felt. Still, it takes quite a little bit more (of experience and know-how) to learn the world’s oldest textile art and be able to create such amazing felt creations from simple sheep’s wool as Ursula und Susanne Weber. Together with other (inter)national felt-colleagues, they will host a week long (sales) exhibition at the Alte Schieberkammer in Vienna. And if you want to experience the wool metamorphosis first hand, you can join the daily participation program and feel free to felt away.

Schön & Gut
Forget holding on to your wallet: the colourful cotton bags by “Schön und Gut” are stylish, really big and are only 17 euros. And they are made in a social workshop by people in search of work. The new, huge store that also includes a little café is run by AMS daughter Job-Transfair, selling exclusively fairly produced things with real added social value – apart from textiles they also sell tableware, seasoning salts, wooden furniture or upcycling lamps. Many things are from their own workshops, some come from other social projects or smart start-ups. Great project and great shop!

Healthy Green Colada from coconut milk and baby leaf spinach is served in a pickle jar, the Chili Beef Quinotto (Quinoa-Risotto) in a cast-iron pan and the organic pancakes arrive on a black rock. The furnishing of the eco-restaurant at Franz-Josefs-Kai is similarly stylish and with a stickler for details – with lots of wood and plants. Bionistas are betting on “Fresh Food” instead of “Fast Food”; with their smart suits they’d also fit in well at a Techno Start Up. They make some tasty food too, though. A lot of dishes are organic, some vegan. A good place for a quick and healthy lunch!
